What are your favorite movies that involve Guns?

Add "Hell is for Heroes" to the Steve McQueen list.

Add "Stalingrad" (by the men who made Das Boot") to the war movie list.

Probbably 40 years ago I watched a old western where the hero had a machine gun. It seemed to take place at turn of the century Mexico and the macnine gun had a drum simliar to a Lewis gun. Since the Lewis only held about 47 shots it's had to have been movie magic as he never seemed to run out of ammo.
The old Man With No name movies had some different kinds of guns. They actually showed them changeing cylinders on BP revolvers.

A newer movie "Defiance"

Its based on a true story about the Belski brothers who were Jewish / Living in Belorussia (Eastern Europe)during WW2. According to the the film makers, they tried to keep it factual and historically correct. In the movie, I found it interesting that the first thing they tried to secure was a hand gun, not food, clothes, etc..... If you watch it, take note.

Its a great movie, just be careful; If you are already boarderline SHTF guy or ammo hoarder, this movie will have you running to the nearest woods and stashing canned goods and 7.62X54 spam cans like there is no tomorrow.

+1 on Stalingrad (The German Version).

I can not immagine being in that battle, there wasnt a good side to be one, each of them lost unbelievable numbers of men.

Sargent York, Northwest Passage, Last of the Mohegans some real shooting in those films. Then a more recent one, War Waggon - neat gattling gun sequences.

Wow its almost impossible for me to respond because i would feel bad leaving something out. Ill give it a shot anyway:

-Shooter (mark wahlberg) and most Wahlberg movies
-Terminator 2, specifically the break action shotgun in the beginning... i need to watch that again so i can see if you really can load and cock a gun like that.
-Tomb Raider, Resident Evil, and Underworld albeit guns arent the best thing about them.
-Die Hard, yippekayay
-Snatch, purely for the conversation about the shotgun
-Black Hawk Down, good movie overall

-Terminator 2, specifically the break action shotgun in the beginning... i need to watch that again so i can see if you really can load and cock a gun like that.

The Winchester 1887 shotgun that Arnie "flip-cocked" in the beginning of the film, had a modified, widened lever hand loop. It's been said that on-set during filming, Arnold once picked up one of the non-modified 1887s, tried to flip-cock it, and nearly broke his fingers. Just as a heads-up. :)

My list of film classics is too long to go through here. ;)

But I just saw Public Enemies and sure enjoyed all the Tommy gun action. Not to mention the autoloader pistols of that time. I thought they did a great job in general of capturing the 30's period atmosphere in that film, too. Clothing, styles, cars, all seemed right.

And my respect for Johnny Depp's acting continues to deepen. He's managed to grow from teen heart-throb into a top notch leading man. He was Dillinger in this flick. Well done.

Lots of good movies mentioned here, but I cannot believe no-one has mentioned "Matewan". The movie came out in 1987. If you do not know it is about events leading up to and during the gun battle between striking coal minors and Baldwin Felts agents in Matewan West Virginia in the 1920's.

The gun battle is often referred to as: "The Matewan Massacre". In the movie it is fascinating to watch Sheriff Sid Hatfield (yes, THAT Hatfield)...stand up to Felts thugs to protect "his" people.

Probably one of the most realistic gun battles EVER commited to film.....Michael Mann would be proud (Probably is:))

If you guys like Quigly Down Under you'll love Valdez is Coming It has more detailed Sharps shooting than any movie. Burt Lancaster is good in this role.

Some film quotes: Segundo; "One shot must have been 700 or 800 yards?"
Valdez; "More like a thousand"

Segundo; "Is that some sort of buffalo gun?"
Valdez; "Sharps, my own load."
A true classic.

Thanx, Russ

"Breaking News"

Just caught this Hong Kong cops and robber flick on Sundance Channel, titled Breaking News.

Nicely done gun battle in the first 7 minutes of the flick, which can be seen here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CJlCYNt2z9k

For the sake of the original thread, I suppose you could name all the guns that get some screen time.

I'm not even going to get into the tactics the HK cops employed, because it's too easy to pick on...after all, it is just a movie.

-Terminator 2
-Tomb Raider, Resident Evil, and Underworld albeit guns arent the best thing about them.
I like these movies because they relate to my sci-fi/gamer/geek personalty, and also my love of firearms.

I also like being an ametuer history buff I enjoy pearl harbor, band of brothers and saving private ryan, not really for the realism of the movie/show but for the firearms and combat scenes.

And the one with Jude Law and Ed harris as snipers in WW2.
