What C&R rifle should I get next?

Here is my list of things that it has to have for me to buy it.

1. It must be in a caliber that is cheap and easy to find. I have stuck to these calibers on my other C&R rifles for ease. I would like it to be in one of these cals or in a common cal that I already have (9mm etc.) 8mm, 7.63x39, or 7.62x54r. .308 is O.K. also.

2. I want something small and light. I found I don't enjoy taking a 5' rifle to the range as much as a shorter, lighter one.

3. If possible, I want a semi-auto but this is only if there is one that meets the above needs.

4. Of course, it has to be cheep!:D I have not paid more than $200 for a C&R yet and I don't intend to go much over that.

I already have the M-44, Yugo SKS, Yugo M48A and Turk Mauser 1938. A small and handy SKS is what I would really like but it has to be C&R. :banghead:
 
Maybe get another Yugo SKS and shorten the barrel?
Might also consider a Spanish Guardia Civil carbine. It's a light, short Mauser in .308, and can usually be found for about $150.
 
Can I legally shorten the bbl on a C&R SKS? If it is legal, I would consider putting a fiberglass stock on it and cutting the bbl down to 16". That would make a nice plinker!
 
Russian and Romanian SKS are C&R. I have two Romanians that I bought off forum "for sale" sections. One is my best shooter. I've seen a few nice Russians also, but never at the same time as I have money in pocket.

AIM's 91/59 Mosin carbines are nice also. They are lighter and better balanced than the M-44 and you have a very good chance of it being more accurate as well.
 
Just placed an order over at AIM for another Yugo SKS! I have a "new" one and a used shooter grade from them already. I have been very happy with them and the used one came with a bunch of extra stuff that the "new" one didn't.

I don't know what I am going to do with 3 Yugo SKSs but at the price, I couldn't say no.:D BTW, AIM has Yugo SKSs for $89.95 delivered!:what:
 
You can shorten the barrel of an SKS, it's just not a C&R anymore. Aim is advertising the standard gradesoviet capture K98's for $179. That's kinda tempting, but they also have 91/59's for $109, and I don't have one of those...yet:evil:

It took a lot of will power on my part not to buy one of the K98 or another Mosin. They have the Russian M1938 Mosin Nagant 7.62x54R package for $69.95 " also.





I was also thinking about the VZ-24.:rolleyes:
 
If my SKS comes with the book and the extras, I won't mess with it but if it comes just as a beater rifle, I won't feel too bad about cutting it up. I have never done this to any gun because I know I won't like it as much once the history is gone but if I have three of them, maybe I could do it.
 
Get a M39. I was amazed at the condition of mine. Absolutley BEAUTIFUL!!.. I know its not semi auto but you have the same caliber at least. PS look at the CZ52. Not a rifle but good buy.
 
I keep buying these guns because I keep saying that someday they will be much more expensive but they keep lowering the price on some of them! They are tricking me into buying more guns than I planned on.:D I mean, how do you NOT buy a Yugo SKS for $89.95 delivered?;)

So those companies that have these with the grenade spigot removed can't ship them to crufflers? They describe these as "California friendly", but since Kal doesn't recognize the C&R license as valid, I guess it makes little difference.
 
I've wondered that myself, but not being a subject in the great state of Kali I haven't bothered to ask my local ATF lady. I have heard thru the grapevine that the ATF made an exception to the "must be in original configuration" rule for those Yugos, but haven't heard it from anyone official. How mujch safer you Californians must feel knowing that your streets are free of roaming crufflers launching grenades at school children. You guys have my sympathies, keep fighting the good fight, maybe one day you too shall be free.
 
Cali doesn't reconize the C&R as valid?:what: :confused: How can this be? What happens if a person in Cali get a C&R FFL? Can he buy anything with it? Can a private person ship a gun to Cali if the person has a C&R?

I live in California and have a C&R license. I can get C&R rifles in the mail from out of state (I've gotten three so far). If I want to walk into a gunshop here in California and walk out that day with a rifle, I need in addition to my C&R, a Department of Justice Cert. of Eligibility (which there is a fee for). I don't know about C&R handguns. That's right, I can get rifles mailed to my house, but can't walk into a store and just buy it and take it home that day :confused: . I haven't bothered to get the DoJ cert.

Now as for the Yugo SKS, IINM since it loses its C&R status when you cut off the evil grenade launcher, you need to transfer thru a type 01 FFL, which would be a gunshop. I got my Yugo SKS before I got my C&R, but that is what I have heard.

As for who I can receive C&R stuff from, if the sender has a FFL I just need a copy and if they do not, then I just need their address. That info gets logged into my C&R Boundbook.
