I was wondering if I could get some advice from you fine folks.

Of 9mm, .40, .45 acp which one best penetrates through barriers when ball ammo is used?

It would depend alot on what type of barrrier material you are talking about. Nearly all will penetrate to some degree and relaibility. You have the Light and fast rounds that will run through and keep going and the slow and fast that will punch through and get there. It just depends alot on wheter you're talking Concrete block or Wall Board.

penetration is a factor of velocity and surface area 9mm has the loweste surface area, so lowest friction and the highest velocity. I would go with the heaviest 9mm in a +p or a +p+ you can find. Ugh it hurts me to recomend 9mm over .45 for anything.

9mm is best. I saw a test several years ago on an old 70s LTD and the 9mm did better than all including the 44magnum.
