What came in this box?

Hi everyone-

My father found the box and accessories pictured below while going through his deceased brother's belongings prior to selling his house. My uncle was a Chicago police officer during the 70's and 80's.

The grips( stocks?) look brand new. Can you tell if they are from Colt or are aftermarket?

I also wondered why the box says "Blued" but the sticker says "Nickel".

Those...

are the original target grips which came on the Three Fifty Seven Colt. The stickers were used on the standard box to indicate special features: nickel, target hammer and stocks, in this case - the stickers were cheaper than printing special labels for each possible variation of the revolver.
That is a really nice revolver - I'd try to find out where it went...

I am afraid the gun is long gone as the house was poorly secured while my uncle was ill.

Can you estimate when my uncle might have bought this gun?

The Colt .357 Magnum was the deluxe version of the Trooper.
It was manufactured between 1953 and 1961.
Less than 15,000 were produced.

The Three Fifty Seven was made from 1953-1961. I do not know a way to tie Unk's down any closer without a serial number. A real expert might be able to tell something from the style of box.
The similar Trooper was made in .38 Special and .22 LR.
In 1962 they lumped them together and just cataloged all calibers as Troopers.

Even though the revolver is gone, it is neat to see and hold this little bit of history. I like how this gun came with a factory target and was wrapped in "anti corrosive" paper very similar to modern handguns.
