What Cartridge Am I Missing Out On?

In all honesty, I can't remember buying any "additional" caliber handgun that was/is a real necessity. However, "honesty" about whether or not I really need a new/different caliber handgun rarely enters the picture when I'm trying to dream up a "need" for it. For me, "want" usually equals "need" when it comes to buying handguns. ;)
Ya. Outside of professional requirements, such as employer mandated guns/calibers or laws specifying the same, every new gun or caliber is like getting another toy to play with.

Stay safe.

I thought I needed a Ruger Single Seven in 327 Federal Magnum when I was buying up 327 revolvers.
I bought a new Single Seven probably eight years ago and it is still in tbe box under the reloading bench along with a few other new guns I thought I needed.
It's about time to move some of them along.

I'd add a .32 revolver in a small frame snub. The recoil difference between .32 and .38 is that noticeable.

You don't need to add any auto calibers, but if 5.7 price and availability improves in the future consider getting one.

BP revolvers of several sizes in the same time frame would be different , historic and a lack of handloading equipment and tools required . Win win. It's in my brain now. Like the song from All in the Family. Won't go away !!!

The 327 Federal magnum is a fun cartridge.
I've got four of them.
I can load 32 short,
32 Long
32 H&R magnum
Or
327 Fedetal magnum.
With the 32 shorts it is like shooting with a 22lr.
The 327 Federal magnum is a good carry caliber.
The .327 is a known velocity sapper for the shorter cartidges. If you're going to buy a .327 with the intent of mostly shooting the .32 S&W/Long or H&R, buy a .32 H&R chamber instead.

I did buy a Tauris 327 Federal Magnum revolver and sold the piece of junk the next day.
Mine is flawless. What was the issue with yours?

To the 40s&w fans. I did own a Glock 22c many years ago. I have no issues adding one again. Heck if I do I would probably buy a 357sig barrel to go with 😁

The most enjoyable handguns i have are 22s and cap n ball BP revolvers.
The suggestion of 45colt is solid. It's big bore, yet comfortable recoil. It's a handloaders favorite, but pricey plinking if you buy factory ammo. A SAA clone by Uberti or Pietta will scratch the itch for cheap and still be good.

A good target 22 auto with quality RDS is fun for everyone. If you don't have one already.

I dunno if I want to fool around with .45-70 in a handgun.
I feel my collection can do without...

You guys do realize this is the Handguns: General Discussion subfolder, right?
;)

Looks to me, Wis, that you've got it pretty much covered....but what about a .32 H&R....think of it, as Armored Farmer aptly put it, "a reloadable replacement for the .22 LR". The ones I have, loaded with 100 gr LSWC's at 1100 fps, are a hellofa lot more effective on varmints than any .22, with accuracy that's outstanding in the 3 Single Sixes and a Smith M16 that I have.

Brass and bullets are easy to come by and if you cast your own, at 2015 primer prices, you're shooting at 5-6 cents per shot! Good guns are available, and with .22 level recoil, what's not to like?

Best regards, Rod....here are some of mine:

Sure would like to take back those "whoops" at 12 and 8 o'clock. That 85 XTP is a hellofa bullet.

A nice 32 revolver is an absolute dream to have. It’s enough to know you’re shooting a real gun but with recoil similar to a rimfire. I have a few but my favorite by far is a S&W 30-1 3”. It’s as near to perfection in a j frame as I have ever seen. 38 in a k frame is similar. 357 in an L or N. 45 in an n frame. I personally skip the magnum handguns except for 357 because I have no actual need for them and the flash and blast is more than I like when shooting.

I have tried to not add anymore cartridges to my current options. Am I missing out on a great cartridge?
As far as needs. I have them covered 3 or 4 times over.

Current revolver cartridges:
38 special +p, 357 magnum, 41 magnum, & 44 magnum.
Current semiautomatic cartridges:
380 acp (+p capable) , 9×19 (+p capable), 45 acp (+p capable), & 10mm.

The Bond Arms I have is 45/410. I look at it as a pocket shotgun more than a 45 Colt.

I also have a 22lr revolver and semiautomatic.
.32-40 blackpowder is sorely lacking

If you have revolvers, you are missing the 32 range revival with the 32 SW Longs, 32 HR Mags and 327s in new guns from SW, Ruger, etc.
They making waves in the pocket J frame, LCR world with some nice SAAs also.
This right here. Your collection is just dandy, but if you insist on something new, get yourself a revolver in .327 Federal and you can shoot everything listed above.
