What centerfire revolver do you enjoy shooting the most?

Ruger 5.5" Stainless Bisley Blackhawk in .44 Mag with the Keith load of 20 grains of 2400 behind a 250 grain hardcast bullet. Manageable but still smacks with authority and will take anything in North America.

Colt Single Action Army in .45 Colt.

Smith 625-5". Last night I shot in my first competition. The 625 performed flawlessly. It has taken me over 1000 rds. to get into this fine gun, but it has moved to the head of my favorites list.
Drawing from a holster, shooting and reloading against the clock with shooters in all of the other lanes certainly opened up my groups, but it is a lot more fun than just standing there facing a static target and having all day to hit the ten ring. Besides, being the only wheelgunner at the police pistol league shoot added to the fun.

A 686-3, 6" with just about any load. Very nice DA and SA trigger. A close second is a nickeled Model 25-3 in .45 Colt. Somebody did a great trigger job on it. Still working up loads for it.

My Rossi 851 in stainless, with a 3" barrel.

It's fairly lightweight, has adjustable sights (including an orange insert up front), nice-sized grips, and goes bang every time.

My wife can shoot it comfortably, too.

Steve,

I really like wheelguns more than autos, and I am trying to solve this inside psychological problem of mine concerning the 'slower' reloading of a revolver compared to an auto and it's possible impact in a critical situation. I read that you do it in competitions. How long does it take for you to reload your gun after sooting all six rounds?

Thanks,

Svetlio

Last night was the first time I have competed. Several months ago, I traded my SIG P220 for a Smith & Wesson 625-5". I swapped guns because I happen to shoot revolvers better than semi's and I wanted to continue carrying .45 cal. The 625 uses moonclips which speeds up extraction and reloading over individual cartridges. Moonclips are also faster than speedloaders, IMHO.
That being said, there were six shooters on the line last night, including myself. The other five were shooting semi's. I believe 3 had 1911's, and 2 Glocks. I had no trouble keeping up with them in terms of extraction and reload times. I do not know exactly how fast the reload times were, but with 144 shots fired (all timed courses of fire) I never ran short of time.
If you can get a hold of a Jerry Miculak video where he shoots and reloads the 625, it will give you an idea of what is possible.
Hope this helps,
Steve

svetlio - I can't tell you how long it takes me to reload a revolver. I can tell you I can get 12 rounds off in less than 10 seconds, using conventional HKS speed loaders. Using a timer during practice sessions did the trick for me. - Phil

An early 70's 6 1/2" Model 29 and a late 60's Super Blackhawk both loaded with a 245 grn Keith Linotype bullet over 20.0 grns of 2400. Years ago it was 22.0 grns but I wanted the guns to last a while.

very encourageing

Phil, thank you too.

I would say the Big Model 27, nickel, and shoots 357 Magnums like a popgun due to its heft.

Which ever revolver is grabbed first from my range bag...

My latest craze has been my QPR BHG-equipped 4.6" SBH with .44 Specials... with my S&W 696 right behind.

My long term favorite, and last to ever leave, is my 625MG in .45 Colt, a gift from my wife. Probably still my favorite round...

Decisions!
