What detachable uppers are you using on your AR15?

If I build a Service Rifle with an M4 upper, what detachable upper is good? I see that Rock River has a match detachable carry handle they promise will zero at 600 yards. Any others?

I have yet to see an M4 upper on the line. Pretty much everyone uses M1As or 20 inch AR-15s.

If you do go the M4 route, go with the Rock River rear sight and a decent barrel. I dont know if the rear sight can get you to 600 with a 16 inch barrel though...

I'm shooting an A3 with 20" barrel, I'm more interested in the carry handle aspect of this thread. Should I switch to an A2 or just stick with my A3 Carry handle?

I have an 18" CMMG flat top and a 20" Colt A1 upper for my AR, and that 20" is SICK accurate.

I'm not really sure what you mean by "detachable upper". Do you mean the entire upper half, or just the upper receiver itself, or do you mean something that attaches to the flat top rail?

RRA and White Oak Armament (Precision) make detatchable carry handles or full uppers.

Compass Lake Engineering is another player.
Northern Competition is another.

Plus all the name brands like Bushmaster, Armalite and such have NM uppers.

RRA is the only one have seen that specifically states their carry handle will go to 600. I ASSUME the others will and are just taking for granted everyone will assume it is given. But then again maybe they don't make it to 600.

You can get a WOA A2 upper with pinned sights for $284 new.

Carry handle

I'm not sure I understand the question completely, but if your concern is wether the short rifle will achieve 600yd with iron sights, then the answer is yes. The shorter the sight radius, the more influence any movement of the sight will have on impact location of the projectile. Therefore, any change to the sight settings will be amplified on the shorter rifle. The shorter sight radius will also amplify any mistakes and lower your score.

The sights for the carry handle are identicle in location and construction to the fixed upper sights. The shorter sight radius will diminish the resolution of sight adjustments, and might be a good case for using quarter minute sights. I have never seen the short gun used in a NRA Highpower match. I don't recall ever seeing the removable carry handle used on the line either. I understand recent rule changes may have made their use permissable.
