I carry at church every Sunday. Since I am always wearing a suit or sportcoat, I go bigger than I normally would and carry a full sized handgun, a Beretta 92 most days. It is sad that we have to have church meetings to discuss what to do in case of an active shooter or to have members actively watching the doors and parking lot.

Protecting "innocents" at the shopping mall and those at your church is two COMPLETELY different things. First and foremost, if someone is there to shoot up your church, EVERYONE present is in danger. Secondly, those people are not strangers. Every last one of them is at least a friend who is welcome in my home at any time. At the very most, they are extended family and close friends who have been in our lives for decades. The pastor married us and has officiated every funeral our family has had. I'd stand between him and any threat extant. So the idea that you're on your own at church, or that protecting those present from an active shooter makes you some sort of wannabe commando is completely foreign to me.

Exactly the people I go to church with are family . In 1997 when we lost our son in a car accident our church was there for anything we needed they came to hold us up for as long as needed we go to a different church (had to move for a job) but it is the same type of family
I would much rather tell someone about Jesus but if forced to I will send you to meet him before I let you hurt my brother and sisters

I will not carry a gun into The House of God because I have faith nothing bad will happen to me there.

I respect your faith , sir , however , passivity in the face of extreme religious persecution has not worked out well in modern times.
I put stock in the long held standard of "God helps those who help themselves."

Where is that in the Bible?

I can't fault anyone for abiding by a deeply held religious conviction. If you honestly believe that you honor God by disarming in church I respect your decision.

    Mr Trunk Monkey ,

I did not say , nor did I intentionally imply that the phrase I referenced can be found in the Bible. In fact , it is not from the Bible.

I believe you did , in post #53 "I do not carry a gun with the specific intent of "defending innocents" and I tend to be a little leery of permit holders who do."

I believe that the topic of this thread is "What did you carry in church today?" , not "Let's analyze and pick apart each others' comments."

Same here and it applies to all sorts of things. It doesn't have to be scripture to be true to me.

Did you catch the post where I explicitly stated that in the event of an active shooter incident at my church assuming I'm present I'm one of the people who are expected to respond?

I carried cash for the brass donation plate.

The church has a small school in the back hallway. Even though it is closed on weekends, I won't take the chance of carrying, even in the sanctuary etc.

I don't understand I.O.; are you concerned about possible legal ramifications for carrying near the school in the back hallway of your church?
    Just curious.:)

Whether you agree it's correct to carry in church or not, you must admit that in today's world just going to worship with like minded people can get you killed. Sad, yes. But reality none the less.

Some churches have organized folks, some even have paid professionals that protect them during worship. But if you are capable enough, and have the correct mindset carrying a firearm to church might just be as important as you bible.

True. But then there's the trip there and back. And for us, usually a stop at a restaurant for dinner.

And then there's that church down in Texas.....................

Jonah had faith too, and look what happened to him.

Don't know what it's called. It's a Galco pancake with an open top. No thumb break or even a tension screw. For me it's more comfortable to carry than a 1911 and I don't have to worry about the grip wearing a hole in my truck seat.

You should carry a Colt single action army, because Jesus said “blessed are the Peacemakers”.

    I think you'll be safe.
I am leaving right now, and carrying my PT145, since I am going shooting right after church, and plan on shooting it.
