What did you get as a hedge against restrictive legislation?

One big concern is requiring that the executor of the trust get CLEO sign-off along with the background check. This would effectively restrict many people's ability to own NFA items, especially in any relatively large city.

I got into the game too late to want to mess with an AR, so I picked up as many high-cap mags as I could find at a decent price for my Beretta 92, and I got a CX4 storm (which was on the potential ban list) that shares mags with my 92. I expanded my pistol collection significantly and switch up my concealed carry weapon as I spent more time shooting. I actually have been shooting more during the panic than before, simply because I got very successful with finding ammo.

With this latest NFA item scare, I got my trust together and have paperwork on 4 cans submitted. I'm probably going to pick up two more before it is all over.

I've decided that if a Dem lands in the White House in 2016, the very next day I'm going to go out and buy a mid-level quality AR and start stocking up on 30 round mags and ammo for it. Might advance the time table depending on how the mid-term elections go in 2014.

I already have several 2011s (those deadly hi capacity killing machines) and plenty of mags, so I built this:

Forgot to add; also picked up a whole lotta standard capacity (15rnd) magazines for my G19, a bunch of 33rnd mags, and numerous mags for my other auto-loading pistols.

Come to think of it, I did buy a LOT of reloading components and a bunch of Wal Mart 550 22LR bulk packs.

Not that I thought it would face restrictive legislation but I was positive there would be a bad shortage.

I will be making it a point to buy or build an AR-15 a year (and adding 10 magazines to the deal) every year when I find new employment.
Do I need an AR-15 a year every year for the next twenty years? Not really.
But... it's better to have and not need. Plus, if I can pull that off, I'll be able to sell half of them at enormous profits during the next panic to those who didn't think far enough ahead.

Ammunition would seem more fitting, IMO. Followed by magazines. Lastly, rifles.

In terms of ROI, magazines are the best. They were selling for as much as 10x the old price. And they are small, light, and extremely economical to ship.

Ammo would be my first pick, though, because I believe that almost every shooter is limited by ammunition. Sit back and consider your firearms, your magazines, your spare parts, your ammunition...if your supplies were frozen right now...which one would be the limiting factor to you continuing to shoot for the next 20 years?

Now multiply that by almost every shooter in the country.

In mid-2008 I bought a half-dozen AR lowers and in the year or so after that I built 3 (more) AR's. I pretty much have every evil black rifle I have wanted so a couple of these were supposed to be "Obama insurance".

I still have the remaining un-built lowers but I am enjoying the completed guns too much to sell them now. One might go if things really get crazy again.

Oh trust me... ammo is on the wishlist too.
I'll be adding some .22LR when prices on it get reasonable and I can afford it too. I didn't get hit too hard on that because some years ago I spent a tax return on a 10/22 and a couple .50 caliber cans of .22LR ammo and still had a little left. Truth be told though, I didn't see the run on .22LR coming.
So my hedge for the next panic... is gonna be .22LR ammo!
And some BP guns and lead. There was no panic on flints and fifty pounds of lead would go a long way with a couple .50 caliber guns and a round ball mould.

    I finally bought an entry-level M&P 15 Sport. Then a 15-22. And a little over 3k rounds of MiniMags.

Well, nearly 20 years ago I got a wife who couldn't have cared less about firearms.

Now I have a wife who wants an "assault weapon" simply because the government wants to make them illegal.

    Lord, I love my wife!

Personally, I could care less about the AR-15 platform...but if she wants one, I suppose I could find it in my heart to locate a suitable one for her.

I got real active in sending loads of e-mail and letters to politicians.

I got my butt on armslist and sold some Wolf .223 bulk ammo that I bought cheap in 2011. (proceeds from this sale went to NRA-ILA, GOA, and SAF)

I do have to admit that I got a little panicky myself and bought a enough standard AR mags that I won't "need" more unless I decide to give some away and support Magpul in their move by buying more PMags. I paid "normal" prices, ($10-15/ea.) with the exception of some Mako steel mags manufactured in Isreal - just bought 2 to have some variety.

Other than that, I already had some in-process builds that I had to put on hold. Right now, parts are all back in stock and much of it's going for pre-banic prices, so I can get started again whenever my wallet's ready for me.

I went a different route. I went sort of a "kiss my ________ Senator Feinstein" route and got something that I feel largely "unbannable". I know that there's always risk. I wanted something light and handy and, even though I live in Indiana where gun laws are great (the few that we have) I figured I'd get a nice gun for multi-purpose use that no State in the Union currently bans or places any restriction on (except for the hollow-point thing in New Jersey).

Now for the record, I really love this thing too. It shoots great, it's light, it's handy, it's fun, it's built tough, and it's just plain cool...and simple. Ruger 77/357. Gotta get some more mags for it. I am going to make a bandoleer rather like the one that M1 Garand enbloc clips came in except made of leather. Get either 25 or 50 rounds all loaded up in the 5 round rotary magazines.

    77_357_zps622442f4.jpg

This is also my "handgun replacement" gun. Sort of a civilian, all jurisdiction legal, PDW. I drive a lot in Illinois. I can take this with me and stay in a hotel legally in Illinois (and every other state in the union...some municipalities not withstanding). This thing might even be legal in NYC...but I wouldn't take it there without a heck of a lot of legal research.

I built an AR. I didn't even want one, my guns are old school, walnut and blued steel. But since the "ruling elite" wanted to deny me the option I decided to I had to have one. I came to love that little bugger, fun to shoot, easy to modify, parts available. I will never give it up.:neener:
