What did you shoot today?

My buddy is sponsoring a match in a couple weeks at the local outdoor club. 300Yd centrfire and 100Yd rimfire. Picked my two best scoped target guns in each catagory and did some load testing and rezeroing-

Turns out my SL6 runs fine on 55gr pills, but, surprisingly, absolutely LOVES plain ol' 62gr M855 green tips.
Had some 75gr BTHP that wouldn't stabilize though-

I usually run SV or Eley in my M52, but figured I'd try some HV stuff for kicks. This old gun actually shoots Minimags better than Tenex.

Well, ready as Ill ever be. Feelin pretty good about my chances, lol.

I dug the 1973-74 Model 28-2 357 Highway Patrolman out of the safe today and shot it for the first time in a couple years. The small Magna grips didn't cut it for me so put a set of Herretts on and shot 150 158gr Xtreme 38spl reloads & 41 125gr Xtreme FP. With the Herretts the gun points naturally for me and my middle finger knuckle doesn't get beat up on the trigger guard. Going to have to take the old girl out more often. 20250419_150027.jpg

I went shooting today. I took my Mossberg 183D-C bolt-action shotgun in .410 bore, which I purchased used earlier in the week and my Taurus 605 .357 snub-nosed revolver.
I shot about a dozen Winchester "AA" .410 rounds, which were 2 1/2 inches 8 shot and 10 rounds of Federal "Personal Defense .410 Handgun rounds, which were 2 1/2 length throwing 4 shot. I also shot 21 rounds of Fiocchi FMJ .38 Special 158 gr. FMJ out of the revolver.

As for the shotgun, I found it very hard to load two shells and one in the chamber, though it took one in the internal magazine and one in the chamber quite easily. This old shotgun is pretty much a range toy anyway. The heavy shotgun made the .410 rounds seem to have the recoil of a .22 rifle. I shot OK with the revolver, but I haven't shot a wheelgun in many months and my accuracy was merely adequate. I made a mental note to take my Smith and Wesson Model 10 .38 out soon to get my revolver skills up to par.

A couple days ago I shot the load that had been in the .54 Plains Pistol for a while, and then a few paper cartridge loads. I took it Turkey Hunting (just as a sidearm, not a turkey gun!) and wanted a fresh load in it. It shot good, as usual, just some paper plate punching off hand at 24 yards.

I also shot a couple rounds through the Turkey Gun, just to confirm it was throwing good patterns at 30 yards. It was. NO, didn't get a Turk, but they are beginning to gobble. That's a Turk I got a couple years ago.

Shot our club's 22BPCR Match today with a CPA 44-1/2 that is one of 50 that Paul Shuttleworth through hardened instead of color casing. Shot up a bunch of Lapua Master M ammo between myself and my partner. Had a blast! Victory lunch afterwards. If you've not tried 22BPCR, you should hunt up a match near you .

I “shot” a bunch of nails out of a coil framer today. lol.
ETA… I also reminded myself of how long it’s been since I sheeted a roof! I’m a bit sore… but the ol fat dad still showed the young whippersnappers he’s still a force to be reckoned with. 😁

Yesterday was our levergun match for our club. We did 3 different calibers with centerfire rifle, Pistol cal rifle, and finished the day with rimfire rifle. Long day and long drive.
40 rounds of 30-30 from the Mod 94 Canadian, 40 rounds of 38 special in the Rossi 92, 40 rounds of 22lr in my Marlin 39A.

Indoor 50 foot range for a couple of FBI Bullseye courses with guns I'd hadn't shot in years. Nice to revisit with old friends!

Glock 44, .22 LR FC 40 grain AM22 @ 965 fps

As others have noted, the Glock 44 rear sight doesn't have enough adjustment to lower the POI correctly for most 40 grain loads, unless you are using a 6 o'clock hold on a bullseye target. I have the rear sight bottomed out, and a center hold strikes high. Fine for bullseye shooting, but it's not a bullseye gun. 😣 Wish they would fix that.

Charter Professional, .32 H&R Magnum, SNS 115 grain FPL-C 3.5 grain HP38 @ 939 fps

I bought this when it was first introduced, and all the guns shot significantly low, with any kind of a POA hold. This kind of problem is generally across the board with fixed-sight .38 revolvers that get chambered in .32, without a change in the frame to make for a taller rear sight trench - which most factories don't want to do for cost reasons. I had a Ruger SP-101 3" that had the same issue - there's a limit to how short a front sight you can put on these .32 guns without a frame modification. Regardless, I returned it to Charter and they gave me an adjustable sight gun! Which is easy to zero with standard-weight 80-100 grain bullets, but now shoots high with heavy 115 grain bullets! No free lunches but I do like this revolver.

I went out this AM and shot some practice. 55 rounds of 22 through my Annie 1710HB, offhand at 50 yards. Shooting at a 3" dot. I averaged about 75% hits, which I thought was pretty good. The photo makes the target look like it's way out there, but it's only 50 yards out.

Then I shot 150 rounds through a Ruger MKII Target at 25 yards, and 50 rounds of 45ACP 230gr FMJ handloads through my 5" S&W 625. Also at 25 yards and a couple cylinders at 200 yards (rocks in the berm). This revolver is one of my most accurate, tied with my FA 44 Mag. More fun to shoot, though.

Love the N frames

I test fired an AR that turned out to have a binary trigger internal to it. The spot where it would say Auto had an HK style pic of 3 bullets, so I didn't know for sure when I shot it what I'd get- I peeked inside before firing, it sort of looked like the rachet setup for an A2, but it's been over 40 years since I popped one of those open. But it was only a binary trigger.
