• Possible Downtime Alert

I am working to migrate THR from the current cluster to a new one. I would like to get this done before the weekend, but it's unclear what the timeframe will be, as testing is still ongoing. As I am writing this the new (rebuilt) host is doing a burn-in to ensure that everything will keep running under load.

When the migration happens users will see a Cloudflare message indicatating it cannot connect to the server. This is expected, and depending on how the migration goes this may last from 30 minutes to 3 hours - I won't know more until testing the various migration options is complete and I have finalized the plan.

More information is available in this thread.

As always, thanks so much for your patience.

What did you shoot today?

Warmer weather arriving steadily... time to unlimber some of the little guys for summer carry tune-up. No time to drive to the outdoor range, so went local indoor.

I started with a center hold for the 71 grain load, which shoots low, and isn't all that accurate. Finished the rapid fire with the 78 grain RNL load, which is very accurate, but requires a 6 o'clock hold which I didn't use. Shoulda woulda coulda....

All into an 8”ish chest sized circle @ 17 yds……

I’d say you and your handloads did quite well…!!…. :)

I went to the range with 2 THR enablers on Thursday. I was going to say THR friends, but even though we met through THR they have quickly become good friends.

I said, enablers! Yes, we had a super super good time. And we got to shoot each other's guns. After shooting them, we want to add them to our own collections, hence enablers 😂

I had never shot any 32 S&W long revolver. What a cool cartridge and now I see why they are popular with bullseye shooters.

I also got to shoot a 2011 & 1911 9mm. I have always been one of the 1911 45acp guys. Now the tough part? Do I buy a 1911 single stack 9mm or a double stack 1911/2011 9mm 🤔

In total there were:
5 - 9mms
3 - 32 s&w long & mag
2 - 380 acps
1 - 38 special
1 - 45 acp
1- 10mm
1 - 41mag

I have to mention this range day also was an opportunity for each of us to try guns we were thinking about, but now want to go a different direction. One of the guys shot my Glock 29 10mm. He shot it great 👍(better than I do), but wants to go with a full size!

I was debating about which single stack Glock 9mm. I got to shoot a 48. Nice Nice gun. I think it may be a little long in the grip for pocket carry. The other friend has put it on his list of future options 😁

I did decide that my H&K 45c is going to be traded off. It will help fund the 1911/2011 9mm and Glock 43.
My local gun shops seldom have older used revolvers. And when they do, they disappear quickly. But I will definitely add a 32 to the watch list.
Thanks guys, I had a super time and I'm looking forward to seeing you at GOALS.

Sorry THR, no pictures. You would think one of the 3 of us would have taken a few! I guess we were just have to much fun!!!!
Super fun day indeed. G48 is never a bad choice. Nor is a .32 S&W-L😏

Took the little late-1960s Bridgeport-built Undercover out for some testing. Picked this up a couple years ago cheap - it was very heavily tarnished but looked hardly fired. Cleaned up nicely, for the most part. The quality of the early Bridgeport guns is excellent by today's disappointing standards amongst nearly all brands of revolvers, even though they were considered a "budget" alternative to the S&W J frame: color-case hardened hammer and trigger, grooved trigger, steel grip frame.

The Charter Arms grip frame fits my hand better than the S&W J frame. This one shoots to POA with 158 grain SWC, and with a slight hold adjustment, with my preferred loads as well:

Fired a 30-round modified FBI-IP bullseye. The HBWC shot well, but the target-velocity cast DEWC loads not so much.

My youngest adult son an I shot various 22ls at 200 & 300yds with an 8-12 miles/hr switching wind.
Oddly I found 300yds easier than 200yds in the odd swirling wind.
Had a good time even though someone was testing an AR/AK hybrid for longevity in a 12" barrel, so loud...

Beretta 686 Essential, Beretta's idea of an 870 Express but better execution. Found a set of extended chokes on eBay and shot the IM yesterday for a 16 yard round. 23/25 and solid breaks. Going to have to add weight and a knuckle pad.
Doves in the fall and skeet in the combo league. Have everything now from skeet in, skeet out, ic, ic, mod, imod, and full. Plus a few flush tubes.

I shot the S&W Model 64-8 38spl with the dreaded internal lock and two piece barrel I bought for $300 OTD a couple years ago.Shot 50 of my 158gr 38spl reloads. I shot very much better than the DW 15-2 that I ran 150 rounds through yesterday. Go figure. Fixed sight, old eyes, least expensive gun I ever bought and shoot it better than adjustable sight gun known for it's accuracy which I paid over twice as much for. The trigger on the Smith is easier for me to stay on target through the pull than my DW. Maybe I just need more practice w/DW.View attachment 1264491
Hmm, have you checked the barrel nut and cylinder gap on the DW?

I have really been enjoying the Birdshead Wrangler lately. It shoots pretty darned good for 3¾bbl .22. Especially one that costs under $250!

I finished a few projects today, and wound up back at the river. I tried to catch fish, but the water was still rolling too strong.

I did manage to sink driftwood Akagi with only 10 shots from my Wrangler.😉

It DOES kinda resemble Akagi.....😁

An awesome range day good variety too, from classic milsurp to hand cannons! Always cool to hear a ZIG 1911 running well, especially on steel case, even if the Remington brass gave it some hiccups. That Romanian SKS sounds like a gem; those old rifles have soul, and yours being all matching and still going strong after 5K rounds is impressive. Also, that JRC in .500 S&W Mag with serial #0025? That’s a rare beast bet it turned heads when it barked.

I took a few minutes and ran to the local indoor range with a couple of .22 rifles

I put 100 Aguila 40 gr rn target loads through a Winchester 9422. Shot ok, my prescription glasses just don’t like being used with open sighted rifles.

I then learned that neither the Aguila target, nor Herters bulk 36 gr hp, would run reliably in my Browning Auto 22. I swear, that gun is as picky an eater as a spoiled toddler sometimes.

On the way out I spotted a unicorn though. I haven’t seen a box, much less a stack, of .45 GAP ammo for sale in ages.

Stay safe.
