• Possible Downtime Alert

I am working to migrate THR from the current cluster to a new one. I would like to get this done before the weekend, but it's unclear what the timeframe will be, as testing is still ongoing. As I am writing this the new (rebuilt) host is doing a burn-in to ensure that everything will keep running under load.

When the migration happens users will see a Cloudflare message indicatating it cannot connect to the server. This is expected, and depending on how the migration goes this may last from 30 minutes to 3 hours - I won't know more until testing the various migration options is complete and I have finalized the plan.

More information is available in this thread.

As always, thanks so much for your patience.

What did you shoot today?

Today, I shot my Stoeger Cougar .40 S&W pistol. I shot very well. A lot of its accuracy can be attributed to the fact that it does not use the Browning tilt mechanism as well as the all-metal pistol's weight. I shot 50 rounds of Remington .40 caliber 180 grain FMJ. I could kick myself for not buying a 9mm Cougar back in the days they were being made, either by Beretta or its Stoeger subsidiary.

Took my boys out this morning. Well, technically, my oldest took US out, since he now has his license 😱.

I shot my 1858 Remmy with .45 Colt conversion again. First time just to try, this time to see what I actually thought of it. Also took a new-to-me .58 Hawken. Both are a ton of fun. Also shot my AR15 with some handloads, to bring something modern, and to see what it is capable of. Typical PSA groups, acceptable.

Oldest shot some factory and some of his reloads in his K31. Still his favorite rifle, it seems. He also shot his vintage P226 .40S&W. He was getting a little frustrated at first with misses, but, after I shot 5 rounds, handed it back, and told him to slow down and take up the slack before final sight picture, he did better and started smiling again.

Younger son took his S&W M&P15-22, which is boring reliable and accurate. Switched to his Kar98, couldn't hit a 2' square at 50 yards. Brought to 25 yards, I still couldn't hit paper. Pulled the bolt and bore-sighted, drifter the front sight left and dropped the rear leaf to the bottom, and he got it on paper. Now to work up a load for it...

Got out late this afternoon with new shooter. She was on the G48 and 322, I brought out the 610-3, the stainless single six and what new shooter calls the "Funny Gun", Ruger Standard Mark II Target. Been a spell, and we made a fair pile of 22lr cases on the ground. We put 50 each thru the centerfires.

44mag revolvers today. Trying to figure out what load I want to use for whitetails in my Ruger SRH. I also ran 30 rounds of 44special through the S&W 69 at a few cans.

Nice SRH. I have a 45LC set up for hunting. Great shooting pistol. Guessing the silver box tab is Underwood. That is what I would use. Looks like a better group than the PMC

Interesting weather today as a couple storms moved through the area.

Once I got the wind figured out, steel targets at 220, 330, 420, and 550 yards were no match for the 69 RMR load in the Mk12.

I also shot the 26" 223 bolt gun at the same distances, including 675 and 1000 yards using the 80 ELD/N540 load.

The silver tab is Underwood 240 JHP XTP.
The PMC is 240 Truncated Soft Points.

I need to spend time with the SRH getting on target. It has been years since I have had a scoped handgun. I wanted to stay away from a red dot. The recoil from a 44mag and 41mag that I had on hunting rigs, destroyed 2 Leopold red dots that I had (20 years ago).

I shot a few 9mms this morning. My Canik TTI Combat, SA Hellcat, and Hi-Point C9.

The Hi-Point had a couple of failures. Time to clean and oil it.
The Canik is so much fun 😁
The Hellcat is going to be my carry 9mm this summer. Being really small with 10+1 capacity it fills a carry role nicely.

Took another wacky mix today; 6” Model 66-2 with the 3-T’s. Baer Ultimate Master .45 and Glock 43x MOS.

IMG_0155.jpeg

Shot the last 70 rounds of .38 Spl loaded with some 147 gr RN (best loaded in 9mm) and IMR Target powder, along with Fiocchi factory 115 gr FMJ (9mm) and handloaded 200 gr SWC (.45).

Nothing remarkable, they all stayed in the 10 and X of B-27 centers from 5 out to 15.

Stay safe.

An awesome range day good variety too, from classic milsurp to hand cannons! Always cool to hear a ZIG 1911 running well, especially on steel case, even if the Remington brass gave it some hiccups. That Romanian SKS sounds like a gem; those old rifles have soul, and yours being all matching and still going strong after 5K rounds is impressive. Also, that JRC in .500 S&W Mag with serial #0025? That’s a rare beast bet it turned heads when it barked.

Took the Dan Wesson 15-2 357 to the indoor range with 100 rounds of my reloads 158gr Xtreme RNFP over 6.4grains HP-38 using Winn SPP in 357 cases. Shot 54 rounds well so I decided to quit will I was ahead. I've got a habit of shooting until I get sloppy and waste another 100 rounds trying to get back on track again. I've found this DW fires Winn SPP & S&B SPP reliably. Not reliably with Argentine (S&A) spp.

Really nice! Curious what range that is? I’m guessing you’re in northern Utah
