What did you shoot today?

.22 LR handguns, mostly in order to further compare the two main 'cheap' Rem. ammo brands.

M&P standard-length, and Ruger Mark IV (skinny barrel) were used.

Golden Bullet continues to have an Excellent operation in both guns: ignition, extraction, ejection.:)

* Thunderbolt is not reliable in the Ruger- even With the Shortened Recoil Spring (approx. 1/4").
* Thunder seems to do pretty well in the M&P - which also has a Shortened Recoil Spring (approx. 1/3").

>>>>Springs in Both guns were shortened due to previous Extraction issues using cheap Federal ammo bought in a retail store- beige and blue box. Problem was solved by the shortening.:)

** CCI Minimag was stored for a few months in the car, and approx. 10% of the rounds in each 100-rd. red plastic box won't ignite. The temp changes etc must affect the priming compounds.:scrutiny:

The ZPAP from yesterday. My rifle is identical. Now 580 rounds with zero issues. Each flap from a --used-- cardboard ammo box is stored in a labeled baggy.

The only way to get the entire length of website data 'squeezed' into the search line (for "copy") is to use Firefox, then paste it into Windows.
Nice! Where'd you get that wood? Looks great!

Took the Colt (Walther) to the range today to test the trigger. I put a drop in trigger kit from Cylinder & Slide. After replacing the sear spring and a 17 pound mainspring I ended up with a reliable 3.5 pound trigger.

I was testing with CCI Blazer 40 grain and ran 100 rounds with no problems. I then loaded up 50 rounds of CCI SV and everything cycled the way it shoot.

Wow, is this a fun gun to shoot.

I also managed 200 rounds of Blazer out of my Ruger Mark IV 22/45 Lite.

It was like shooting a laser. I had some of the best groups I've shot in years. I managed to keep everything inside the 10 ring of a Bianchi tombstone target at 25 yards. For me that's an accomplishment.

No special range theme today. Shot the Spanish M1916 Mauser and the Mosin M91/30 to live-fire verify if a couple issues from last outing with these rifles had been resolved. Success in that department, so had a little more fun with the Mosin to determine POI for iron sights POA at 100 yds. Discovered to be an offset of 14 inches elevation and 5 inches windage. Using that, managed to hit gongs at 100 yds three out of five shots. Though I gotta say, it's pretty weird aiming at a spot below and to one side of a target.

Just some target practice with the CZ-75B. Handgun skills need a little sharpening up after a summer of mostly shooting rifles. ;)

i shot a walther 1911-22, a Ronin Operator 9mm, a Kimber Custon .45 and a RIA .45. somewhere between 30-40 rounds each. a good time was had by all.

I discovered some brass-case 7.62 x 39 I didn't know I had and so I liberated my Norinco SKS from storage and gave it a little light exercise at 25 yds at my local indoor range on a day too gray, cold, wet and windy to enjoy shooting out-of-doors. (All the rest of my 7.62 x 39, of which I have plenty, is steel-cased, but not allowed at the indoor range).

My Austrian M95 8x56R long rifle to resolve issues from previous range trip (picced previously). Issues resolved OK. Guys at the range thought it was pretty cool. Made my day.

A) S&W 908. Despite three digits, it's a 3rd. Gen.

This is not used for carry, but the only concern might be for those who don't carry this 908 (or 3913/3914 / 6904 ?) very often:
Despite being DA/SA, if you chamber a round with the 'safety'/ decocking lever in the down position and close the slide, the hammer snaps forward pretty quickly onto the primer.

I would not wan t to carry one of these unless it's is carried quite often. This was bought to be a range shooter.

B) Zastava ZPAP.

My SDS Imports AR T-02 semi-auto riot gun.

I did more function testing, this time with the +2 magazine extension. It wasn't as bad as last time with the extension, but I still got 3-4 stoppages out of fifty rounds of Estate 00 buck.

On the plus side, the Leapers rail that replaced the OEM rail was rock solid.

Next week I'll go back to the OEM magazine tube cap and spring and the follower from the extension like last week. I expect it'll work just fine. If so, I'll just ditch the extension and call it a day.

Back to the range today with all the OEM parts back in. I shot 120 rounds of CCI Blazer with 100% reliability. I only shot this gun at 10 yards but kept everything inside a 4 inch bullseye at 10 yards.

Trigger pull with factory parts is 5 1/2 pounds, just as advertised. Next, I'm replacing the parts with a Cylinder & Slide trigger kit that should get me down to 4 - 4.5 pounds. I played with it before and was getting hammer follow.

Put the kit back in today and no more hammer follow. Faulty spring was the cause. New spring, pull is down to just under 4 pounds and it passes all the safety tests. Now I have to scurry to the range again and live fire test it.

This is a great little gun. Colt 1911 22 Gold Cup Trophy.

It was "45 day" at the range! That's my great uncle Tom's issued WWI(made in 1914) 1911 which he took to Europe with him...and more importantly returned! The others are a Gold Cup and my "Franken 45" which is a Colt NM barreled action on an Essex frame. I've all intentions of porting it out(I've already scribed the cutout) just never got around to doing it. Ugly but shoots as well as my Gold Cup! Oh, and the "old man" of the group held a fist sized group at 10 yards. Not bad for a 107 year old pistol! Fired and functioned like you'd expect from such a high quality firearm! 1911-1.jpg

Went to the range with my buddies yesterday and put some rounds through a few of my Smiths, the .460, the 610 and the Shield EZ 9mm for one buddy who's just getting into hand guns. A good time had by all.
