What did you shoot today?

Car's in the shop, so shot the breeze with the usual early morning crowd at the diner while waiting. But made sure I got 2 days in at the range, one with my 9's one with my .380's first

I shot my troublesome Buzzard (Local assembly similar to STI Eagle) until it jammed, then took pictures to show the gunsmith.
Shot the Plastic M&P for the first time in a good while; a friend was showing off his impressive XDms and that is the closest thing I have to see if I could really get use out of another of the type.

Clay shooting with my coworker last weekend. His usual CZ 1012 and my Beretta A300

Then this weekend I went with some new to me guns to try out. An unfired Sig 229 Legion and an old H&R Plainsman. Plainsman was very accurate for me missing its sight elevator. Only shot it to 10 yards. But it was handheld and im not a steady hand. It had issues though. Half the time id pull tje trigger and nothing would happen. Id have to recock the bolt and try again, sometimes several times. Firing pin wasn't hitting the primer or something. Also ran 9 mags thru my TX22, flawless and accurate. Not bad for 7 yards with cheap ammo.

I took my Taurus TX22 to the range for the first time Sat. It ran great, was accurate, and all 4 mags that I have for it worked great. Put 250 rounds through it, mostly really old Remington bulk and an old box of Zapper. I did shoot a box of new Herter's.

I also shot my Pico. I shot my carry ammo, which I kept in the gun way too long.

I also function tested a box of Federal Punch 380 and a box of Norma MHP with poor results. Both caused FTL and FTE. The Norma jammed every other round. The Federal did slightly better but was not acceptable.

My old carry ammo, Critical Defense, cycled perfectly as did some cheap Geco FMJ which I shot after the SD ammo. At least I know it's not the gun.

I'm seeing Critical Defense back on the shelves, so I need to grab some. Luckily I still have enough to reload 2 or 3 mags

A) M&P .22 handgun, standard size.

B) Gone Hiking has a video of a family member shooting the Very cool PTR-91 with a scope.

Recoil: There is a video on Youtube about how to reduce unnecessary (or whatever the term) recoil in the basic "G-3" series.
A guy claimed that Oil (maybe CLPs) etc collects in the rear of the action when these rifles are typically stored standing up.

This video gent cleaned out most or all of the oil, -- in the rear of the receiver -- thereby limiting the recoil to what is expected in the original design...or that was my impression.
I can not find his video.

I took my Anschutz 1712 out to the club’s range. I usually shoot that rifle pretty much weekly.

Shot the MPA in 6GT. It was the rifle’s maiden voyage. Looks promising.

My #1 son pulled his new unfired 6.5creed AR10 from his truck and headed for our shooting bench. The sun sets shortly after lunch around here, and we didn't have much daylight left to shoot.....but he needed to get sighted in. I grabbed my binos and my electronic muffs and was going to spot for him.
It dawned on me that I had mounted a new nikon prostaff 2.5x10 on my farm rifle, (may 30th)but had yet to sight it in! (Dont give me too many thr demerits for my laziness, my rifle does have good offset irons on it!)
We set up a 50yd target basically to get our scopes on target.
Sons AR10 wears a Vortex Hoghunter 4x12(iirc) he was on paper with his first shots and quickly dialed in to his 50yd bullseye.
I bought a new 2.5x10x42 nikon prostaff from fellow THR member @giggitygiggity and mounted it on my Ruger SR556 last May 20210530_192116.jpg
Forgive my crappy pics, I wasn't smart enough to take any from the shooting bench. These were from the day I mounted it. IMG_20210530_185730.jpg
Within a few shots we had my rifle dialed in. I put a thumbnail sized piece of electrical tape on a fresh white pizza box target because the light was yielding to darkness and I was hoping to see the final shots on the white target.
We were shooting off the bench and rested on Caldwell bags. I was down to making single click adjustments on the nikon. I fired a group of three at my tiny bullseye expecting to see a group very near. Nothing. I hoped that they landed in the black, and fired three more. Darkness was on us, and #1 son went out to pull the targets. He yelled back, "I think you're good, chief". All six holes were in that tiny piece of black tape!
It may not be too impressive, but it was pretty satisfying under the circumstances. The SR556 has always been a good shooter. I am impressed with the Nikons light gathering abilities. Too bad they're out of business. 20160206_160313.jpg this unfortunate guy was 400yds out.
I'm going to do a little research as to what yardage I want my zero. If I recall, a 50yd zero is an inch high at 100, and on at 200. If so, I may just leave it as is.
My apologies for the ramblings, but I was in need of a good range outing.

A stamped MAK 90: 7.62x39. A friend (professional home builder) brought his Saiga.

The country of origin is Not the gun’s fault. But many people seem to forget ——-

The gent who came into this same Action Pistol alley today when I finished, remarked in a very matter-of-fact voice:
"I haven't seen one of those since 1970, when I flew Hueys in Vietnam".

I decided to shoot the Walthers today.

I took my P 22 and my Colt 1911 22 Gold Cup Trophy to the indoor range for some practice. Both guns worked fine.

The P 22 seems to really like CCI Stingers and Velocitors. I fired 50 rounds of both with no problems. The gun shoots a bit low but as long as I aimed 2 inches above cetner at 7 yards all my shots were where I wanted them to be.

I really like the muzzle flash from the Stingers. Very impressive.

The Gold Cup Trophy ( 1911 22 ) ran 100 rounds of CCI Blazer 40 grain and is hitting dead center. I cut out the center of a Bianchi Tombstone target shooting at 10 - 15 yards. I tried some CCI SV but the slide wasn't coming back far enough to pick up the next round on all shots. Looks like I'll use HV ammo like Blazers and Mini Mags.

Today was a big day for me. I've bought quite a few military surplus rifles since I became a gun owner last year. Most I couldn't shot at my regular range since the caliber was to big. My co-worker has had membership at an outdoor club but has never went, til today. Decided to see if a handful of my rifles would work. Took my WW2 K989K Mauser, French Mas36, Carcano T.S. Carbine, Carcano Cavalry Carbine, Yugo SKS, and brought along my Henry Golden Boy .22 just for fun.

They all fired, the Carcanos all were hard to open the bolt a lot of the time. The MAS36 was a great shooter albeit very heavy trigger. The Mauser was a thumper, Yugo seemed so tame after shooting all those larger rounds. One or both of my Carcanos were key holeing badly and were all over the place. Id suspect its because I need the larger bullet style. Next time I go im bringing my own targets. It was very hard to see those, and weren't large.

It was a bunch of older RSO guys and they were checking out my old stuff. They thought my Carcanos were SKS for a second. They want the Garand brought out next time.

My coworker brought a put togeher AR with a red dot he wanted to sight in along with a bolt action rifle that he's had a long time but never fired, it was chambered in 7mm magnum and also needed sighted in. I gave it two shots, and that was a hard hitting rifle, he regretted shooting an entire box at the end of the day.

Hi...
Spent a few hours at the gun club today with my son.
Handgun day...I started with .357Magnum. Shot my S&W 27, 686 and my sons' 66, my Dan Wesson and my three screw BlackHawk and my sons' Taylor &Co. SAA clone.
Then I switched over to .44Spl and shot both of my Ruger Flat tops, Taurus DA stainless steel five shot and my Uberti SAA clone.
Next up was the .45Colts... I shot my BlackHawk, S&W 25, one of my Colt Troopers, Uberti nickel SAA clone, Uberti Schofield clone and Uberti 1875 Remington clone.
Pulled out the .41Magnum Ruger BlackHawks(one three screw and one
new to model), my Dan Wesson and my S&W 57 and ran some rounds through them.
Finally, I switched over to the .44Magnuns and fired some rounds through one of my Virginian Dragoons(the stainless model), my S&W 29, Dan Wesson and my three screw Super BlackHawk.

Spent most of the time smacking steel at 7, 15 and 25 yards. I ran speed drills at 7 and 15 yds with most of the revolvers, one or two cylinder fulls depending on the revolver and then spent some time breaking rocks on the 25yd berm.

The speed drills went very well, particularly the one handed drills with the SA revolvers.
I did miss a couple of plates at 15yds with a couple of the SA revolvers when I rushed the shot a little too much.
I didn't shoot all of my revolvers snd none of my semi auto handguns and we only took 100-200 rounds per caliber in an attempt to conserve some primers.
My son shot a couple hundred rounds of .45Auto through a couple of his handguns. He was testing a load he wanted to try.
Then he shot pretty much the same revolvers that I did plus a few others that I didn't get around to shooting today.

A couple of club members were watching us shoot for a while and they were impressed by my sons' ability to shoot off hand at 25yds with handguns. I told them he had been shooting big bore handguns including .44Magnums since he was 8-9 years old.
He will be 28 in January, so he has basically 20 years experience.

All in all, a very good day.

Not today but I had some time off work and pulled out the old 336 and finished filing down the front sight, I hope. I replaced the factory sights with aperture and Patridge rear and front. I also finally found an acceptable 150 grain round nose load. This is one of the fasted loads I have but also shoot cast out of this rifle at 1200 to 1300 fps. Filing the front sight down should leave me about 2 inches of adjustment down and 8 or 9 up at 100 yards.

I also shot my SW 22 at some bullseye targets. I’ll file this target in the “I’ll never do that again” folder.

A) S&W M&P .22LR, standard length. Used on the club's Action Pistol plates.

B) Maadi (A.R.M.) in 7.62x39; chambering is included for the unfamiliar, who might be lurking. The depicted type of target is always on the berm. No standard rifle rounds are allowed to hit AP plates.

Hitting typical targets such as this at the bottom (from 30 yards), to make them "dance",
relieves me from the pursuit of trying to achieve a tight group.

For rifles, the bottle IS the group.:D. The professional home builder who always brings an imported AKM whenever we can meet also doesn't give a **** about groups.
