I went to the range this morning. I put about 200 rounds through my Ruger Mark IV with a Vortex Venom red dot. I did okay. I would recommend NOT drinking 3 cups of coffee before shooting for accuracy. I was a little shaky. I was up late last night then went to early Palm Sunday church service, so I pounded some lifeless blood first thing this morning.

My Maadi AKM looks identical, but has red mahogany (oil Minwax) on the wood.

Somebody suggested keeping silent about how much 7.62x39 ammo I have. And was fortunate to have heeded...good advice about planning for 'pricier times'. This began years ago, to my wife's bafflement.

Most gun owners have always postponed extra Buying as if mass murderers (schools, company offices) will suddenly begin Announcing their evil intentions -- at all... in advance, or always be noticed and interpreted correctly.

    You know…consequent ammo panics….

This complacency among the Vast "Herd" has always baffled me.

Took my new to me Type 99 Last Ditch Arisaka and a 1895 Chilean Mauser to try along with my Swedish Mauser and my M44 Nagant. Neither my Chilean Mauser or Arisaka would fire. No marks on the primers so suspect firing pin problems. Learned this evening via YouTube how to break them down and indeed the tips are broken short. So spend some time this evening trying to find replacements. Only brought a box of Swedish ammo and 2 boxes for the Mosin so wasn't a long trip. I'm really glad I got the Swedish Mauser. Windage is great just always hard to get the elevation. Spent time with the Mosin. Learned it's really shooting left. Ordered a sight pusher for it

I shot my S&W 617 today at our local Steel Challenge Match. I'm really enjoying shooting the revolver against the autos. My scores have improved so much since switching.

Today I had 3 stages where I had my best personal times.

Coupled with my DS-10 Speed Loaders I start with 16 loaders and have an extra 200 rounds in boxes with loading blocks. Luckily I had the extra ammo today because when the match was over a couple of guys in my squad wanted to try out my revolver. Hopefully I'm making some converts.

I'll be leaving soon with my SA Range Officer 1911. I've neglected her lately and spent too much time in cheap sordid affairs with newer, prettier guns like her sister Ronin. Hopefully she'll forgive me, and we can share that quality time we once enjoyed.

I went to the range to sight in and try new grips on a "new to me" old P&R S&W Model 28-2. I like this beast already. IMG_2221 (2).JPG

My Czechpoint (CSA) VZ-58 looks identical, and also has a Slovakian muzzle brake.
It is Not derivative of the AKM: these have Linear “hammers” (about like a striker). Milled receivers. No parts interchange with AKMs -- not even magazines..o_O

My Czechpoint VZ has seen approx. 2,700 rds (I keep a piece of each used ammo box), perfect function.

    A buddy brought this little S&W 642. It's a tiny Demon.
Even with a lighter Wolff trigger spring, 'interesting' trigger pull, along with the recoil. Believe that it is a .38 ?

Revolvers are a type I have never owned.

I shot the MKE AP5 and the S&W Parker Hale rimfire conversion. While I did not clean the guns yet, I have the brass sorted and in the tumbler.

Well the Marlin .357M CST didn't disappoint. Ended up, after sighting in with peep, adding an XS scout rail, and a little holosun 2moa dot, in the low mount. 50m 158gn rounds touching, when the goose behind the trigger did his thing right (I will admit I pulled a few, called, getting used to it, trigger needs some work, next).

Took my new to me French Mas 49 out to the range to see how it worked. Brought along my 91/30 Mosin and Marlin Glenfield 25. Posted some better groups shooting today. Mas shot fine for the most part, seemed like it has some occasional feed issues, could have been mag issues. Decent accuracy, started at 50 yards then took it to 100 yards. Seemed like the Mosin started to shoot great. Took some figuring out at 50 yards but took it to 100 yards and got a handful in the red with box ammo. Rather happy with it using cheap ammo and iron sights. Could have done better if had a better bench rest setup and a better shooter 20220418_103032.jpg 20220418_103719.jpg 20220418_110308.jpg 20220418_113801.jpg 20220418_115411.jpg

My Beretta 92 hasn't been shot in a while and I heard its pleas for attention coming from my gun closet, and I just couldn't say "no".

Shot my Steel Challenge gun, a 6 inch S&W 617 using Federal BYOB 40 grain plated bullets. I can shoot 500 rounds before having to clean the cylinders which helps during a match.

After fixing the safety button, I finally got around to test-firing my Arisaka Type 38 carbine I picked up at the April gun show. Only five shots. All I needed to shoot, considering 6.5 Jap ammo is going for $3 a round. Gun shoots fine. It makes round holes in a consistent area. All I really need to know at this point. And, actually, in terms of milsurp carbines, this is gun is a pretty neat little shooter.

S.A.M. .45 Commander . Made in the Philippines. It's a robust little pistol and fun to shoot. It's my only 1911 style gun. I might have to get more!

Home mod Savage Model 11 with Boyds At-One Thumbhole, Savage Model 12 Varmint barrel in 223, Burris 4.5-14X42 Fullfield E1, Harris Bi-Pod.

Shooting 2 loads that were developed for my Model 10. 1) 62gr Hornady HPBT over TAC and Accurate 2460. The TAC load is 24.2gr with an avg. velocity of 3068 and the 2460 is 23.3gr and avg. velocity of 2937..

First target picture is upside down and is a mix of both loads and was still zeroing scope. Second photo is the 2460 load. Center target was used for this test and was shot at 100yds., 44*, light rain and light crosswind from the right. The smaller targets are the same loads shot from my old model 10 2 weeks ago.

Shot the Vudoo at 150, 175, 200, & 300 yards today getting ready to shoot an NRL-22 match tomorrow.

Strelok Pro does great to 100ish yards with the factory FPS and BC, but I haven’t been able to make it work out to 300. If I get that right, I’m off at 75 to 125ish.

    150 yards. 3.8, 4.0, & 4.2 Mils

    Hi...
Had a good day at the gun club today. Hadn't been doing much shooting because of wet cold windy weather, other obligations and attempting to conserve reloading components.
    Tried to rectify that today.
I started off with the .357Mag revolvers...20 rounds each through both of my Colt Troopers, my three screw BlackHawk, my son's Taylor's SAA clone and his S&W 66 and my S&W 27. Plus another ten rounds through my son's Uberti lever action carbine.
After that, I switched over to .44Spl revolvers and shot 20 rounds each through both of my flat top BlackHawks, my Uberti SAA clone and my Taurus stainless adj. sighted DA revolver.

Next up were the .45Colt revolvers. Again...another 20 rounds each through both of my original full size Vaqueros, my S&W Model 25, my Uberti nickle SAA clone, my Uberti Schofield clone and my Uberti Remington 1875 clone and my Ruger BlackHawk.
Also shot a magazine of rounds through my son's Para Ordnance 1911 .45ACP.

I never got around to shooting my Uberti .45Colt lever action rifle or my Marlin .44Magnum lever action. Didn't get around to shooting any of my .41Magnum or .44Magnum revolvers today. Next time for sure.

Despite not having done much shooting lately, I shoot pretty well. 25yd steel plates were easy to hit SA and DA and even the speed drills with my DA revolvers at 7 and 15 yards were very good...I did have a couple of misses because of rushing my shots now and then.

I did spend quite a few rounds turning big rocks into little rocks on the 25yd berm after doing the serious shooting on the steel plates.

My son shot quite a few rounds testing some hand loads in his .45ACP Para Ordnance.
He also shot a good many 9mm rounds...I wasn't paying attention to which handgun he was using. He did shoot a large number of rounds in .357Mag, .41Mag and .44Mag revolvers and through all three of the lever actions.

All in all, a very enjoyable morning at the gun club and a satisfying start to the shooting season.

CZ 452 Super Match and CZ 457 Varmint. Tried to shoot some targets for a monthly RFC contest and did not fair very well in the 20+ mph cross winds. Temps in the low 40's...looking into the sun and plenty of wind gusts. Still fun to be out shooting!
