Nothing today as it's barely early morning twilight but yesterday it was a few shots with a ruger wrangler, my new to me 3 screw blackhawk, the little fire breathing dragon known as a rock island XTM, and a sar b-6. I spent most of my time as a tutor and only demonstrated how each worked. No one was interested in the XTM.

Went to the range with the mrs. yesterday. She shot the S&W 19 only. Tried a few rounds, but really liked the 38 wadcutters. She's getting used to it and really likes the smooth, light trigger pull. Unfortunately, it's a bit TOO light and has light primer strikes sometimes. Need to get a spring kit ordered when they're in stock again.

I shot a few rounds through that (always a pleasure) and tried a new handload through the SP-101: 105 gr cast bullet in 357 case over 7.0 gr. of HP38. It's pretty hot, I'd call it a light magnum. I put a few rounds of it through the 19 also, which was a mistake as now they're BOTH all leaded up. It's just too fast for these bullets.

I finished off two boxes of factory 38: one PMC 130 gr. and one S&B 158 gr. FMJ through the SP and the LCR. Every time I shoot full power 38s through the LCR with heavy bullets, I have to shake my head at how hard that little gun kicks! I think I need to load it more like it's a 380; with lighter bullets and with a lighter powder charge.

Yesterday shot the G48, G42 and G36. A Glock family day at the range. 50 rounds each. Cast hand loads for all.

I’m pushing the G42 a little left when I shoot it. It’s vexing me something fierce. I read up on it and found I’m not alone in that. I will use more finger on trigger and see if that makes a difference. I know I’m “pushing” it when I shoot so I just need to fix it. All the other shooting went without a hitch and was great. Mainly just staying sharp and working it out with my carry guns.

    This.

Somehow at 50 yards I managed to get three shots to touch, within the bullseye.

Partly luck, with gun resting on an empty small backpack, supported by an inverted wooden stool ; backpack squooshed between the stool's legs as a soft rifle 'rest'. This is always my only benchrest - my very redneck improv.

67 years-old, no glasses, iron sights. This vision might not last much longer (one never knows), but a first scope --- never had Any gun scope or red dot etc --- could be acquired and put on the A3SK, having the factory-welded rail.

Nothing today, but tomorrow I'll be at the range with a Polish AK, Indian 2A1, and a Beretta M71 in .22LR. Should be a fun outing.

20221030_081845.jpg We have a nice Ruger 10/22. So I decided to mount a 15 year old Weaver Grand Slam 3-10 Jap manufactured scope. Was searching for scope rings. Since this rifle came with a 1913 rail. I tried out a Leupold one-piece AR-15 mount. I installed it backwards and it works great with that scope. Shoots very accurately and quietly. This is by the door for various critters that my come by the small farm.

Sighted in my friend's Rem 700 22-250 again. This is same gun that had a defective trigger last year and discharged when I closed the bolt. I put a different trigger last year that I bought from a THR member. Inspected the new trigger again for him and zeroed it with the 55gr SGK load I worked up for it last year.
I think it's ready for Coyotes if he is. He shoots consistently 1/2" right of me in that gun, so it should be dead on for him. That's a 4 shot group in the pic, 100yd, cold bore.

Yesterday I had a friend over for practice, and we shot on steel to 460yds from field positions. Today I just didn't feel like making the 75yd commute to the range..so off the back deck at 407 and 547yds:

Love the ammo box - "Wildey's here". I wonder how many caught the reference.
"Just waiting on my friend Wildey to arrive..."

30 carbine handgun and a Wildey Mag.
I'm betting you were lighting up that indoor range.

I snuck out and shot my new Ruger American Predator in 223. I was sighting in the scope I put on it and generally just getting familiar with it. It is stock with the exception of a lighter trigger spring that I put in, and the trigger is set at 3lbs. I am happy as it shot 3 different handloads I already have a lot of, into pretty good groups and the same POI.

I also ran 3 clips through one of my Garands, just checking the zero and putting some rounds through the gun. I realize I have a ton of ammo for my M1's and it isn't getting any fresher sitting in my gun room, so I intend to shoot a few clips when I can.

I also ran a few cylinders through my K22 Outdoorsman revolver, just because. This has the older long action trigger and so it is more of a challenge to shoot double action. Single action is pretty nice, however. Pictured with some vintage CMP ammo I bought in the '90s.

First time out to the range since June, shot the following:
    Colt Anaconda
    Smith & Wesson 629
    Galil Ace Gen 1 556
    Ruger Mini 14
    Springfield Trapdoor 45-70

Got some powder burn on my right hand while dual wielding the Anaconda and 629. Waste of ammo, but fun AF.

Yesterday (I know the thread is "today"):
SIG P365 (100 rounds, half JHP and half FMJ). No problems.
Glock 19 (50 rounds). No problems.
Taurus Tx22 (200 rounds). No problems.
Kel Tec Pf9 (50 rounds JHP). It went well until the last mag, one double feed.

    Today:
Glock 19 (100 rounds, half FMJ and half JHP). No problems
Taurus Tx22 (100 rounds). No problems
RIA 1911 CS (100 rounds FMJ). The mag often did not trigger the slide to hold open on the last round. Other than that mag related issue, one stovepipe.

Until my MD carry class last Sept, I had only gone to the range about once a year for the last several years, and maybe two or three times a year on average for the last 5-8 years. My shooting was terrible. The last month and a half, I've been going 1-3 times per week and I've shot many thousands of rounds. I'm definitely seeing improvement. My groups to about 12 yards are good, to 15 they aren't bad (it may take two fists to cover 30 rounds, one fist at 10-12 yards). To 20, I'm getting there. However, they had been consistently about 6" to the left (until a few days ago they were also low, but I fixed that 2 range trips ago). The range officer at my indoor range noticed my target, watched me shoot, and realized I was using the tip of my finger on the trigger instead of the center of my fingertip pad (I was working on breath control, being sure I had a consistent grip, making sure I wasn't slapping the trigger...). Simply moving my finger over a tad on the trigger, and I moved my shots over to almost where I wanted them. Some practice to be more consistent, and I should be getting there.

A calm day for a change so checked the zero and practiced a bit with the 721 Remington. It's a 270 that had a Boyd's stock on it but this year I found an original stock so it's back to 1961, the year it was made. I'll be deer hunting with it this year.

Thank you. I had a couple of guys ask what it was and after telling them it was used by Bronson in Death Wish III, they were like "Ohhhhh, that's the gun". I'm guessing it had been a while since they had seen it and just didn't recall the pistol.

As for lighting up the range, it was a moderate evening. I'm using Blue Dot for the 475 and it is nowhere near as flashy as H110 out of a 5" Wildey in 45WM. The 30 Carbine ammo by PPU is pretty flashy, but Aguila is quite a bit brighter. I don't load 30 Carbine yet, so we'll see what we can do when I cross that bridge.

Took the mini 14 and Savage axis out today. Nailed some clays at 200 yards.

Shot the Mossberg MC1. Accurate, meaning I can hit a six inch metal plate at will at 15 yards. Glock mags work well. Others not so much.
