What did you shoot today?

After RevUp Kit and Bushnell.jpg

Shot my 4 inch S&W 617 that I just upgraded the hammer to a RevUpAction kit. Trigger is smooth throughout the pull and feels much better than a stock lightened trigger.

I fired 200 rounds of Remington Bucket Of Bullets without a failure. Next I'm going to try CCI Clean and Mini Mags.

I'm finding that I'm more accurate since upgrading the hammer. My sights don't move as much and I can pull straight through without staging the trigger.

Found these really neat "smallbore sniper" targets allegedly from the Czech Republic, they are some of the most challenging targets I've yet found to sharpen my skills with a scoped .22lr rifle at a 25 yard rimfire range. They simulate ~250 meter distances with scaled, obscured hostage silhouettes. Naturally, I used my CZ 457 Pro Varmint rifle to strike at them, using 45gr/970 fps Federal Suppressor ammunition.

Winged the no-shoot a couple times just barely, hard to tell by how much because standard copy paper tears unevenly, sometimes beyond the boundaries of the actual bullet hole. I'm gonna have to find some thicker stock to print more of these on so I can get better precision on scoring.

As on many Sundays I shot my 22LR IHMSA pistols, an 8" S&W 17-6 and a T/C Contender. Off-hand and standing, of course :). The local silhouette range is pretty hopeless in clear winter days, the low-hanging Sun shines directly ahead. But I was able to hit even the turkeys @ 75m a couple of times.

I love those old 38 Spl revolvers. I prefer the heavy barrel, but would not pass a used pencil-barrel either. For some reason, the 28 Spl revolvers haven't gone up in value as fast as their 357 brethren.

It was a thing a few decades ago to electro-pencil (or scratch ) ones' SSN onto a firearm. I suppose a serial number isn't good enough, or a sales receipt.

I remember Police Chiefs recommending the practice. Sigh...

The weather folks on the web gave the impression that we would have an ice storm that could qualify as one of the plagues of Egypt. I took the risk of driving out to the Waffle House for breakfast and the roads were great. So, I went back home, grabbed my Henry Model 01 .22 lever-action and headed to the range. I thought I would be alone, but there were two gents shooting a pellet rifle and pistols there. I expended about 60 rounds of CCI Mini-mags. After awhile there was some light rain, so I packed up. I was glad I got a little shooting in, so I wouldn't get cabin fever later on in the day.

View attachment 1130419 View attachment 1130420 Are you kidding? It's 4 degrees out. I have two new 9 MM's and I just received 1,000 rounds of 9 MM and here I sit, My range is fifty yards away from where I'm sitting and just can't brave the outdoors.
I understand completely. Our "range" is a county gravel pit a couple of miles south of the house. The picture (taken last Sunday) is of the area near here where my wife and I were shooting ground squirrels last spring. Our "range" is full of snow, and if we drove down into it right now, we'd have to leave our truck there until this spring.

Took my new to me M1 Garand and Swiss K31. The Swiss is a good shooter, the M1 I don't know. I tried 1 round of Turkish ball ammo and it got stuck and would not come out easily. Didn't have a rod to knock it out so that ruined the day since I only had 1 other rifle too shoot with only 1 boxes of ammo.

I can't read the year on the MKE ammunition but I would try some new quality ammunition in it. Also make sure the chamber is nice and clean.

Took my recently-acquired 1100 out to function and pattern test. I haven't decided whether to call it "The Dictator" (as it looks like something captured from a despot's palace) or "Elvis" (it's glitzy, showy and an American classic).

I've had several personally owned and agency issued 1100's and 1187P's. I owned a cut-down 18" 1100 since @ '92, and my initial LE agency was carrying 20" 1100's when I started in '93 before switching to 18" 1187P's in the late 90's. When I transferred to the State circa '08, I was issued a 14" 1187P until my retirement from full-time in 2018, and owned a personal 18" model for a while.

All that to say...the 1100's were finicky on ammo selection. None would function with anything under @ 1350fps. My agency issued 2 3/4" Magnum loads for duty...which made for a miserable officer-survival course I attended where we shot 100 rounds of shotgun one morning with agency supplied ammo and academy supplied 870's with rigid plastic buttplates. The 1187's were about the same...they would sometimes function with reduced recoil Federal 00 (1145fps), but not enough to consider them reliable with it.

With all that in mind, I ordered @100 rounds of Federal Power Shok 00 (1345 fps) to run through it (couldn't find any full-power LE FC). I also ordered @ 50 rounds of Federal 127LE full-power slugs (1600 fps). I have a sizable stash of 132LE 9 pellet low-recoil (1145fps) and 127LE reduced recoil slugs (1300 fps) on hand that I feed all my other guns (the 1301 will eat anything) and wanted to see if it would cycle any of those.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that this particular 1100 fed all the reduced recoil rounds with no issues. I put @ 200 rounds through it yesterday and it continued to eat and spit everything out like a champ despite being filthy at the end. I'm assuming that whoever did the barrel trim and Cerakote must have also opened up the gas ports accordingly.

Slugs off-hand @ 50 yds. The full-power 127LE's were printing just a tad low...the reduced-recoil slugs pulling left was my fault.

Recently put a new set of fiber optic sights on the Ruger Single 6 convertible. Went to the range today with the 22LR cylinder in it and discovered that it actually shoots better with better sights. My old eyes need all the help available. Also had the 7x57mm 1908 Brazilian Mauser out for the first time in 2 years. IMG_7778.JPG . Put 25 rounds of 1937 vintage Kynoch, ( British made) 7x57 140 gr. ammo through it; the ammo came out of a sealed spam can about 20 years ago and still looks like it was made yesterday. Was going to set up my chronograph for some of it but a fellow club member was already there playing with his new Labradar chronograph which doesn't require a lot of set-up preparation. He offered to chrono my stuff and I can now say that it's getting about 2828 fps from that long, (28" IIRC?) barrel. Also had the Henry H-001 .22 lever gun along and had fun disintegrating a few clay birds I put up on the berm. Temps got well into the 40's today, with thick, low cloud cover that made the afternoon darker than usual. Upper 40's in February almost gives me spring fever.
