For those of you that CC, what is it about your first CCW that made you get rid of it?

I still carry my Kel Tec P11. I have a lot of complaints about it, but I still haven't found anything I like better.

Well, I still like mine (Glock 19), and I still have it. However, it has been replaced as my main CCW because I got an M&P9 FS that just fits me better.

My next CCW piece will most definitely be smaller though, a FS gun or even a gun the size of a Glock 19 can be a little big in some situations (especially in the Texas summer heat).

I carry several different guns depending on what the occassion is and how I'm dressed. I still have them all and rotate, again depending on requirements. I recently got a new S&W Shield that seems to be the most compatable for many of the carry needs I have. Many of us have found that there isn't any magic gun to suit all our needs. Some of us have summer guns and winter guns because some clothing is better suited for concealed carry than others.

I originally was unhappy with the size of my XDm, so I got a SP101 and LCP. After reading about capacity, accuracy, and number of attackers, I've made my XDm my primary again and am looking at switching from .40 to 9 for more rounds in the magazine.

Started with a Springer subcompact XD in .40, great gun overall and I had no real problems with it, but I fell in love with 1911s and sold it to finance more expensive toys. I'd probably still own it and maybe occasionally carry it if I didn't need to sell it.

I also supplemented my XD (and later the 1911s) with a Sig P238 and S&W 442 for pocket carry, still spend most of the time carrying a 1911.

I can't vote twice, but I'll relate the experience of my friend who started carrying about a year or two ago. He started off with a S&W M&P in 9mm, awesome gun, but full sized guns are often too big for many people to carry on a regular basis. So guess what? He rarely if ever carried for a while, until he went to the other extreme and bought a S&W Bodyguard .380, which he does carry on a pretty regular basis.

Who knows, he might have saved himself the trouble if he split the difference and bought a compact M&P or similar mid/subcompact sized handgun to start off with. So just my 2 cents, I wouldn't start off with a full sized, but I wouldn't jump straight to the pocket gun either.

My first CCW was my XD-45 Service Model 4" and still is. Fits my hand great and I try to get out to the range once a week.

I got rid of mine mainly because I wanted to see what else was out there. I wasn't living at a place with a rental range, and I wasn't in a position to afford owning more than one gun. FWIW it was a 1911, but there were several after that came and went.

I guess I did good research and/or got lucky; I'm still carrying the first gun I bought to carry, S&W 642.

LCP and never looked back, although I supplemented it with a Kahr CW9.

I think most people consider width first, then weight.

Twas a full size. If I had got a compact perhaps id carry that instead of my sub compact or whatever a Shield is.

Width was my biggest issue. I'm not a very big guy, and my shoulders don't extend much past my hips, so when I wear any type of shirt, I need something with a decently thin profile. Started with a 1.25" wide double stack .40 S&W semi, currently carrying a .357 Snubnose, and really contemplating a super compact .380 (like everyone else) or a Ruger LC9/Taurus 709/740 type of thing.

I still have it, it's just not my every day carry item.

My first was a Glock 19, bought on reputation. I didn't have a lot of experience with handguns back in 93, so I bought on name. Turned out it really didn't fit me well, and I don't like the grip angle of Glocks.

Started out with a SP101 but quickly decided I needed more capacity due to the area I lived in at the time. Went to a XD9 subcompact but the thing felt like a brick in my waistband. Had a full size 1911 for a while but stopped carrying it because of reliability issues. Too bad because it was one of the most comfortable and comforting guns to carry. Ended up with a Glock 19 and I'm happy with it. Nice compromise all around seems like. Thinking about picking up a Glock 26 for the rare times when I need something smaller. I also have a S&W 442 that serves for deep cover and as a BUG.

I've got a sig 229 enhanced elite that has the bobtail. When I'm sitting down the bobtail sometimes sticks into my side. I still carry it most of the time though.

Anyone else shocked that over half the people are still carrying their first CCW? I always thought I was some kind of aberration in that I bought a G26 for CCW and have kept it for several years.

Here is my question, if you have been using the same CCW, what is it?

I started with an XDm 3.8 in .40 as an all around gun, my first pistol. I quickly found out it is too big to conceal well.

I bought an XDsc .40 and love it, still carry it whenever I can. I carry it even when I could be carrying the XDm instead.

I just recently bought a Taurus TCP for the times when the XDsc is too bulky. It bulged out the frame the first time I shot it and is currently at Taurus getting fixed/replaced. I really liked it until that happened, so I'm waiting to pass judgment until I get it back and shoot it again.

These are just MY opinions as I waddled through the ccw search
The 1911 was heavy
The XD45 was too big
The XD40sc is not really heavy but too fat.
The LCP, well I like it, I wish it came in 9mm in the same package.

I shot my first CCW so much it started to wear out. Plus I wanted a weapon with more capacity.

I didn't vote because my issue wasn't on the poll, but I'll tell you my evolution.

1. Colt New Agent .45. Love the platform, love the gun. Ended up setting it aside because I prefer 9 mm (I can get more rounds off accurately and would rather have 3 chances of a stopping hit than 2), higher capacity (my CCW instructor says our local issue is likely to be gang related and they travel in groups), and a shorter grip for easier concealment.

2. Kahr P9 'Covert' (P9 with PM9 type grip) 9 mm. I bought this because I had convinced myself that I could pocket carry it. It almost worked for me but the weight was too much for dress pants pockets and rather than figure out some complex rig I moved on. The gun wasn’t really comfortable for me to shoot, I have long fingers and the grip is just too small. I don’t love the long trigger pull either, and again, I wanted more capacity.

3. Glock 26 (9 mm). I looked at all the subcompact double stack 9 mms. Kept coming back to the Glock, sort of to my surprise. I carry it every day, it conceals perfectly under tucked business casual clothes, I like shooting it, and I have no complaints about it (aside from the ejection pattern issue which will I am sure eventually be resolved).

First carry was a sig 250 sc too wide and clunky large to carry concealed easily. for some reason a Kel-Tec P11 is more manageable to me.

Over the last 30 years, I've carried lots of different guns, from a High Standard .22 WMRF derringer to a 6" Model 28. The majority of the time, Colt full-size 1911s were my choice, but as I get older and the world gets uglier I'm transitioning to a Glock 30. Here in California, 10+1 is the practical limit on a new gun - simplifying the "capacity debate". I shoot the G30 very well, and enjoy it. I'm a XXL, so size is not a real issue - but for very formal gatherings, a LC9 is on tap.

Still love my 1911, tho....
