I'm curious what you guys do in a situation like this.

The other day i was helping a girl I know with some things and while driving to the place to pick up the items she asked to go see some birds. Well being a hunter I've always got a pair of bino's so i said oh, i have the binoculars maybe you can see them better and as i reached behind the center console of the truck it dawned on me my CCW gun was next to the bino's. I kind of froze for a minute and she was like oh, where are they? I said look don't freak out I have a ccw and also carry a firearm for work I'm going to grab the binos but there is my handgun right next to them. She said it was fine that she's not afraid of them. She then says please tell me you have a permit and are allowed to have that. I explained i have a ccw and also a police firearms permit. I grab the bino's and she says oh, can i see it and grabs it before i get a word out and its in my holster and i said don't pull it out its loaded! She is looking at it and kind of nervous and accidently points it right at me. I didn't freak out or even say anything to her cause i didn't want to embarrass her or upset her and being in a level 2 holster i felt somewhat comfortable nothing would have happened. (I know I'm a dumb ass). I kind of thought about it for awhile like maybe i should have corrected her but I'm kind of sweet on her and didn't want to be a jerk. This is the second-third time in a month I've had someone do this to me with their weapon or at a store (Each time its either been unloaded or in a holster). and while it irritates me i don't really know how to say something without provoking an issue.

So it gets a little worse. I tell a mutual friend and he says oh, god!! really!! He then asks me if she told me about her brother and i said no. I tell her i didn't know she had a brother and she says oh, yeah, he shot himself. I'm thinking oh, great and apologized for the other day having it and explained i was going to not so great city for a few things and they have been having car jacking's and such and she says well as long as your legal i don't care.

Possibly you shouldn't mention that you keep a firearm in your console?

Kinda wondering why you said anything at all, other than, “here, use these binoculars to look at the birds”.

But if the cat’s already out of the bag about a gun in the car, no need to tell her where it is kept.

When i lifted it up and she is sitting in the passenger seat i didn't want her to see it and get scared or what not. I mean i lifted it up and they were right next to one another! I lifted it up and said oh, s.... and thought okay what do i do now! She is very observant she brought up the fact that i had a burger king cup in my truck for over a week. I'm like how do you remember stuff like that!! Im 99% sure she would have seen it and us not knowing each other super well i didn't want to scare her.

Got it. She couldnt help but see it. Understood.

She seemed to ask you a couple of nervous questions. Makes me think you had a little time, maybe? Time enough to move the gun?

I usually don't but i took it off because i didn't want to walk into her house with it on and alarm her. If i go to friends houses i always take it off and leave it in the car out of respect for them. She is the only one who knows where it was and that i do that other than my best friend.

I guess in my simple opinion, it is your car, you are legal, you are not threatening so it is none of her business. As for her brother, I feel for her, but I see no need for you to apologize for something that is legal for you to do.

Yeah i guess i should have put it elsewhere. I was running around and she called for help and i pulled up and went to get out and said let me take this off first so i don't scare her incase she felt it or something. I thought she was going to take her car but she insisted on riding with me and then wanted to stop and see the birds. Usually if someone rides with me its in the glove box locked and always removed when i go home.

She's not a shy person she was all like oh, what's this and pulled out a piece of paper i had from a repair quote I'm thinking damn woman you sure do like going through people stuff.

BTW i fixed my OP because it sounded like this happens all the time with people in my car. My buddy disarms from time to time and is very un muzzle conscious and several people in gun stores always swiping people and guys at the range.
