What do you have waiting for you in the reloading room?

Follow up to my earlier post; was going to take my Ruger 77/44 as a backup rifle but while checking sign-in I noticed that the magazine would pop loose when I shot. Got a call in to Ruger to see if they have an answer to this problem. So as a backup for the backup I chose a Ruger #1A in 7-08. Had to load enough fresh cartridges to check sight in and supply the hunting trip. Think everything is ready now.

MORE BUCKETS ARRIVED TODAY

I will eventually get all these odd-size bags, and odd-size boxes, and odd-size buckets off the floor so it doesn’t look like a CRAZY PERSON lives in my basement and garage.

This is ROUND THREE of buying batches of 5 buckets and lids. I think this batch will actually get me there.
I will now have 15 black buckets (all the same size – YAY!), and about 150 ammo cans.

Brass goes in buckets.
Ammo goes in cans.

Cans and buckets are each labeled on the outside.

Contents of each can or bucket are contained in separately-labeled ziplock bags or factory boxes.

There are a few cases of factory ammo lying around still in original cardboard shipping boxes.
Several of those in my underwear closet upstairs.
I probably won’t re-pack the cardboard cases until I’m actually using the contents of those cases.

I hope I make it far enough to use all of it up. But that seems very unlikely.
Lots of pain. Slowing down my attempts to burn it at any kind of rapid pace. Hoping it doesn’t get too much worse, or I might have to start selling/giving it.
If I don’t breathe too forcefully, it really doesn’t hurt too much.

I might buy some .22 SHORT ammo.
I’ve enjoyed shooting the ROSCO for some reason.
Takes forever to unload the empties from the cylinder, and then reload. So guess I won’t buy 10,000 rounds of shorts.

4-gallon SQUARE buckets are perfect for reloaders .
I’ll save a couple round buckets for end-of-the-world pooping. The bucket toilet seats all fit the 5-gallon round buckets.

5-gallon round-shaped buckets are THE DEVIL for reloaders. Way too heavy when full, and the round shape wastes storage space around the bucket horribly.
Except for drywall mud, and for using as an end-of-the-world **** receptacle, 5 gallon buckets are awful.
I know you got up this morning thinking how much you were looking forward to receiving a pathetic and rambling diatribe from Gary about plastic buckets.

The Uline buckets and lids are inexpensive.
Uline buckets and bucket-lids are sold separately. So be sure to separately order lids if you order buckets.

Shipping from Uline for buckets is kind of expensive – at least its expensive compared to the price of the items. Worth it if I can see my floor again at some point.
Uline ships REALLY FAST. When they say it will arrive tomorrow, it arrives TOMORROW.

What I have waiting for me is a hunt for my shellholder for 38/357. I misplaced it somewhere, and a cursory look didn't immediately locate it. So I can't process the 300 pcs of 357 and the 200 of 38 special I have waiting for me. I also need to cast some more 148 grn wadcutters and launch into a 38 special loading marathon... plus load development for both 357 and 44 mag single shot rifles I recently got scopes for. Lot to do, and this is just the pressing stuff. Need to get more 38 brass too... it never ends, and I love it!

I've dropped back to 3 gal size containers due to weight. 5 gal can be heavy depending on what you fill them with. I used over pack buckets with lids that screw on/off.

Closest thing I used in the past was those square kitty litter containers.
Made for heavy.
When you have to store a million little expensive items, there is peace in rows and rows of stackable containers.

Kitty litter comes in the same square 4 gallon buckets as I bought..
Laundry powder too sometimes.

Sat in the reloading room for hours feeling over whelmed, seems I lost my load book in the move from Ca to Oregon. I dont remember what powders I used with what calibers so I now have to start over (I bought multiple powders for each caliber to try) Primed a couple hundred each of 44 Mag, 300 Savage, 6.5x57, 7mm Mag, 45-70 and 35 Remington.

Its going to be a long road to get load data book re-done.

On-line loading data to get you started. Hodgdon, Speer, Nosler, Sierra etc. It's a good start.

Think of it this way at least your out of a communist state, a load data book is a small price to pay for freedom.

Been there, a couple of times. Latest one was a roof leak that soaked my loading book and a bunch of my old magazines. Paper and ink don’t like wet.

I was able to rebuild pretty quickly by using printed manuals - at least I kept those in a bookshelf in the library - and the box labels I make for my loaded ammo. I lost a lot of notes about what didn’t work out though.

Good luck and try to enjoy the trip. 👍

150 ammo cans! Wow! I thought I had a lot of ammo cans when I bought 2 pallets (48 to each pallet) back when the Gulf War started plus a few others that I already had!

Besides that tub of brass that I posted about a while back I have several hundred pounds of sorted wheelweights waiting to be melted and cast into ingots. Me and a buddy usually get together in the Spring before it gets hot and work together to melt our years accumulation of scrap.

We have several dozen 45-70 cases trimmed and primed, just been trying to decide on which powder to use with which bullets. We have an assortment just haven't moved on them yet.

Also there is the .223 cases that need finishing up being trimmed and loaded with the RMR 69gr. Also need to test batches of 72, 75, and 77gr. On top of the standard, I need to work out a load for my 223AI Contender.

Not even going into the revolver rounds sitting in the Q. They are quick an easy though, just dual in the powder weight in the uniflow and go to town with the two 4x4 auto's.

I ordered another 10-pack of 30 caliber cans.

Easier to keep ammo ready to go to the range. Just grab and go, and without having to dig out a larger can and then parse out the varios calibers. I rarely shoot more than 4 calibers on any outing. So 4 30 caliber cans will be easy to handle, and will pack in the vehicle without being too much burden.

I have too many ammo cans, but never enough it seems.

Just got everything I need to start loading for my (new to me) 6.5X52 Carcano. These will be my first test rounds using a 140 GN .264 Speer Grand Slam with IMR 4895. Using Hornady dies and of course the all to popular LFCD!!! 😀

I also have some PPU 139 GN. .268 projectiles on the way.

Somehow I was shorted two pieces of brass from PPU, probably onot the second time in about a decade that that has happened to me.

Wish me luck, in my research I’ve heard that these old rifles are pretty finicky to load for. Should be fun finding her a something that she likes. IMG_6753.jpeg IMG_6754.jpeg

Best of luck!
Just remember, when you’re that old you’ll probably be cranky too. 🤣😁
There’s a couple of companies out there who cast for 6.5mm. Quality Cast makes Hi-Tek coated .266” Spitzers w/gas checks. It couldn’t hurt to check them out:

I have to much waiting for me in the reloading room I finished the last of 500 rounds of 9 mm tonight, now I can start on 44 magnum I have 500 MBC 200 grain Stalker bullets waiting to be loaded with Unis Ginex LP primers , mixed brass , and Ram Shot Enforcer powder.
I also have to get started on 357 magnum with 500 MBC 158 grain Match LSWC , CCI SPM primers, mixed brass and Ram Shot Enforcer powder.
And after all that I have to get 45 auto done , I have 1000 Red Line 200 grain LSWC bullets waiting to be loaded in Speer SP primer brass , Unis Ginex SP primers and Tite Group powder my arm and the Lee Classic Cast Turret are going to get a workout.
I was out of town for 17 days right before Christmas so I’m behind.

25 of these.
