Before this resurrected thread goes too far sideways, note that the OP purchased the package. I just want to know how it worked out for him.

Sorry been so busy with things happening in last few months haven't had time to post. I have tested it on a limited basis so far, I have more brands of ammo coming next week Federal 175 gr match and Winchester 7.62x51 match ammo.

So far I have only tested at 100 yards, haven't dialed the scope much just basic function and ammo tests. I have been watching and reading on the internet to learn about mildot, how to know how to adjust for distance, how to range using mildot and such, must admit it is kind of complicated to understand adjusting for bullet drop and such. I do not have access to more than a 200 yard range anyway so I can't get live fire practice long range yet anyway.

For now I'm just gonna test ammo and see which I want to stay with. The rear monopod has been useless for me so far I just use a rear bag and squeeze it to line up the sight. Also my dominant eye has gotten worse vision in last few months have new lenses on the way, at some point I'm gonna have to do the cataract surgery. I tried shooting a M1 carbine iron sights last weekend and just gave up, I couldn't see the black circle all I saw was the paper target overall even in November I was able to see it but not now.

I have a similar rifle that does sub MOA with M118 LR or 168 grain Federal Gold Medal Match. It APPEARS that the scope on that rifle is a Leopold M3 LR- as issued in the US Army as a product improvement package for the M24 SWS in the early 2000's. If that is what it is, 3.5-10x is the correct power range, with 1 MOA adjustments for elevation, and 1/2 MOA adjustments for windage. The reticle should be mil dot, 4 mil dots in each quadrant with 1/2 mil hash marks between each dot. The stock APPEARS to be H&S. If all of this is so, that was a smoking good deal you made.

Yes all seems as so, very glad I jumped on it, very glad I also asked questions on here because posters provided info that was valuable in letting me know what was what. The targets I posted are literally the only amount of ammo I have shot through it so far except four rounds of cheap ammo to sight in at 50 yards before I moved to the 100 yd line.

Stop shooting that trash ammo through that gun if you can get anything better.

lol I already stopped I just used it to get on target instead of using $2 a round ammo to. I have Federal, Winchester and Hornady match ammo coming this week.

It's been some years ago, but I was in a small local gun shop on a Friday afternoon just killing time. The guy had a used 700 on the rack in 308. It had a heavy 24" SS barrel and was setting in a green stock that looked like either HS-Precision or B&C. I don't recall now the exact price he had on it, but remember thinking it was a pretty good deal. But I hesitated buying it. Partly because I was going to a gun show the next morning and didn't want to spend the cash I was taking to the show.

Once at the show I found another identical rifle for sale (for more than double what the one at home was selling for). I also discovered it was one of the 5R target rifles. On Monday I headed straight for the gunshop with cash in hand. But it was already gone.

I may be wrong, but the scope mounts look wrong for the rifle.
    Rifle condition looks ok.
But never can really see the bore with pics.

I bought that same REM SPS 700 in right hand in .223, with a Nicon Prostaff 5 scope used as new ,(used in one South Dakota Dog hunt) for 600, scary accurate.

A few years ago I bought pretty much the same Package from a local PD auction but was a PSS RH for about the same $800+. I had to replace the Bolt as it was worn and cheaper to get a new one in SS at the time then have the worn out one rebuilt. The barrel had a lot of wear on it but still shot 1 MOA UP TO 200 YARDS with my go to Fed.Gold Match 168 grain I use as a standard . I bought a new take off same profile 6.5 Creedmore 5 R Remington barrel for it a couple years ago and have not mounted it yet. I have a wonderful PSS already so I bought it as a back up. That 3.5x10 LR Leupold is a good scope BTW , I did change the mounts, I don't like that "old" "redfield" design mounts anymore , I prefer one piece mount/rings heavy duty style .

Russian ammo sucks IMO even before the invasion of Ukraine. Steel cases and Berdan primers = crap.

Start reloading and you will find the best load for your 700.

Had a friend of mine, came by to try out his brand NEW 700-308, I had a bad migraine and didn't follow him to the set up
    in our back yard.
He fired about 30 shots, and came in to tell me he was very upset over the rifle and was going to the pawn shop
    and get his money back.
He showed me the target, with all 30 in the same target. They were all over the place.
Then he says= Maybe the scope? Can you fix it? = I said no my head is killing me, let me see the cases.
They were the cheapest WOLF you can get. History has taught me with my buddy, he will take the cheapest
deal out there and call it a victory in finances, a slight fault but I have several faults myself.
I told him to use my stuff, clean the barrel and then take 6 of my reloads and try again.
Miracles do happen, it shoots just right at 1" at 100 yards. Now me with a migraine he wants me to make
him 25 rounds for it. Just like give me your time and materials for nothing. I said NO, but we are still friends
because he needs me. Told him to get brand name ammo and get rid of the cheap stuff.

Components remain unobtainium in HouTex as well as my typical online sources. Fortunately, I have found match ammo in both 6 ARC and 6.5 Creedmoor, the ammo spigot is seemingly again flowing.

When I saw what was happening in Ukraine a couple of weeks ago, I figured any hope of mil-sure ammo just went down the tubes.

Some have been digging into me for using some cheap Wolf ammo lol, but I only used it to get the scope on paper and then three shots just to see at 100 yards. I have this ammo to test now coming up, pretty much thinking I'm going to stick to 175 grain though after. IMG_5185.JPG

Pretty much my final update on this thread and I'll let it fade, after testing some different ammo decided on Federal gold medal, both 168 gr and 175 gr I get three holes touching at 100 yds, next trip will to finally zero it in so it is dead on at 100 yds using the 175 gr, then hopefully get a chance to start using it at longer distances. Targets shown was first and only try that day

I don't think you could ask for any better out of a used, <$1k set up. That's some good shooting!

The only thing I can add is when you settle on one given loaded cartridge, if store bought rather then a reload, buy as much as you can of the same lot, as variances do occur between that will affect accuracy and obviously point of aim/impact. This holds true for .308 target ammo and especially .22 LR or any other manufactured ammo.

There is ammo, and then there is match grade ammo. As the man said: Only accurate rifles are interesting. It follows that accurate rifles only work with accurate ammo.

A most interesting thread, please keep sharing targets, results and most importantly, Analysis.
