What do you think of the Savage Arms A22

Just curious for people's opinions.

Thanks.

Don't own one and haven't shot one. But, I've read mostly good things. The idea of a semi-auto with the accutrigger is pretty cool, I love the one on my Mark II. I'd really like to try out the A17, a semi auto 17 HMR just sounds like loads of fun.

I felt one up in the store and really liked it until I dry fired it. The trigger on that example was trash compared to the bolt action accutrigger

The following video is a bolt action (B22) but Im hoping the semi auto (A22) will have somewhat similar results idk.

Im seriously considering buying the A22 and would like to see any test result(s) videos/reviews on them.
Ive searched the internet but maybe Im not doing it right.

That video is a good example of people’s obsession with precision over accuracy. The ruger is walking point of impact right off the target. At the end of the shooting string almost no shots are hitting the target anymore with the 10/22, whereas the Savage is maintaining its point of impact with almost every shot on the target, but no mention of that in the video. It’s strange to me that people are so obsessed with group size that they don’t even care where the shots are actually hitting. I’ll take a 1.5” group that always maintains POI over a 1” group with an unpredictable POI any day.

I have an A22 22lr and i love the thing. The pros are the accutrigger is crisp (although it does feel lower quality than other accutriggers), it feels like a full sized firearm, it is laser accurate and i have had 0 reliability issues with it. I also find it stupid easy to clean. the bad, the trigger is heavier than other accutriggers and just does not feel as good, The stock is not built for the irons if you want to use those at least on my model and compared to the 10/22 (problem with any 22) the magazine and aftermarket availability is not the same. However i believe butler creek makes 25rd mags for it although i have not tried them.

All in all for a similarly priced gun i would take it over a 10/22 so long as you aren't looking to build. My 10/22 rarely gets out of the safe anymore.

This is always something that`s amused me as well. I always thought the main goal was to hit the target.

A rifle that groups well but for which the POI for the group changes over time or at times is a scope problem or bedding. I will take the rifle that groups best and get a new scope. And bed the thing in too. My bet would be that the A22 would be a more accurate rifle out of the box than run of the mill as from Ruger 1022s. A built 1022, well, that is another game and at this point of time, not one the A22 can play due to lack of aftermarket.
