What do you use for your home defense ?

I use the meanest thing known to man - an irritated wife! I keep her in that state just in case someone breaks in

Good one, never thought of that... hmmmm :D .

I always have my CCW on me at home, a S&W 642:

642_12-1.gif

At night, the 642 usually goes in the safe and my primary HD gun goes in the nightstand, a S&W 686+ loaded with 38+P LSWCHPs:

My backup HD gun is usually the 642 or my Springer XD9 (mag loaded, empty chamber - I don't quite trust myself with the light trigger pull while half asleep).

One day I would like to add a Mossberg 590 pump in either 12 or 20 ga. But it is always nice to have a nice, simple wheelgun close at hand, God forbid I ever need it.

Always the ever-present 1911 & a 100#, extremely-territorial Black Lab. Beyond that, could be an EBR, a shottie, or perhaps an XD40 Tac. Or, I could just let some bloodthirsty alien life form loose out of the bachelor fridge . . .

Primary home defense is handled by a 4" HB S&W Model 10 backed up by a S&W 642. Both loaded with 158 grn LSWCHP +P.

I use this.

I recommend you get out more often. A remington 870 can be described in many ways but sexy is not one of them. Try to meet some nice young women. You will then be able to differentiate between "sexy" and "utilitarian".
I had a feeling that was a bad choice for an adjective.

Gorillas and the such

My Kahr P9 9mm (carry piece) and an XD-45 with light/laser & spare clips for both. Those two should get me to my Rem. 870 Wingmaster (17" bbl. w/sights) loaded with dbl-ot buck and spares on the butt stock.

Thirty years ago, a friend of mine (who had every imaginable weapon available to him) told me that he thought the perfect "home defense weapon" was a gorilla. He said, "Nobody can reason with a 400 lb. gorilla  in the middle of the night!" .............. & I believe him.

Well, at least the 870 will never leave or cheat on you...

I keep a tame zombie on a chain near the door.

Well, I was going to go with one of those. But right now, I am leasing a mutant armored zombie polar bear. Seems to work pretty good.

.357 in the nightstand, BHP near the front door and KelTec .380 in the study.

My daily carry Glock model 17 does double duty at night. It wears green Mepro night sights and 18 rounds of Federal HST 147gr.I keep my Surefire E2D
handy as well as three 33 round mags.

Back-up provided by my Sig Sauer P229 and Beretta 8000F.And plenty of spare mags for each.

Contingency Plan:

And just in case the BG is able to get through the dogs and happens to be wearing Level IV body armor, we keep this as a final solution...........

9-1/2 pound of fury right here. She's actually hurt me worse than any other pet I own, and the dogs leave her alone.

Remington 31 pump loaded with buckshot. I live in an apartment so I don't want to "wake" the neighbors is something happens. Only had to raise it once but that "cha-chunk" sound was all it took.

Ruger P95; if I could shrink this puppy down I'd also use it as my CCW.

A well trained and extremely vicious guard dog plus anything else I can get my hands on… :)

By the way, my mod 29 S&W .44 mag. revolver was not fired but loaded and ready to go with the same Federal 180gr JHP ammo for 26 years. Nothing was stuck in the cylinder. Before I did fire it last year I ran a patch of Kroil through the barrel just to clean and lube but it did go bang and right on target 6 times. It would have worked without the barrel cleaning.

I keep an XD-45 in the bedside table, loaded with Federal HST 230gr JHPs. 13+1 rounds, with an extra mag in the drawer.

All the longguns are in the safe. I'm in an apartment, so I wouldn't be able to access the safe in case of a unwanted visitors. Still, 27 rounds of HST should be adequate for any situation that I can foresee (indeed, one or two should be adequate). I'd really like to get some sort of holster to attach to the bed frame so I can keep the pistol somewhere other than the drawer -- having to remove the holstered pistol from the drawer, remove it from the holster, aim, and shoot takes precious seconds. If it were holstered and attached to the bed, I could simply draw, aim, and shoot without having to fumble with the holster itself.

I have my SKS with the bayonet extended, unloaded but with 2 stripper clips of 120 gr federal vitalshok softpoints nearby, and with 300 rounds of FMJ on stripper clips in mag pouches under my bed. I also have my 10/22 with a 20 round butler creek mag, and 2 10 round factory mags in a pouch.

An inexpensive Hatsan (Turkish) Escort 18" Bbl 12Ga pump with a pressure activated Sure-Fire light mounted to the barrel. Though I have Remingtons and a Benelli that would work equally well, the Escort is the only one of my firearms that doesn't stay locked securely in a safe; my CCW piece being the only other exception. I figure that if someone were to break in and steal any of my guns (ohhh the very thought :barf: ) then I'd rather them get away with a $169.00 shotgun than any of my other pieces. If anyone has been contemplating an inexpensive shotgun for general use, these work great. I took it to the range immediately after purchasing it and fired it dozens of times to make certain it would function should it ever need to. Patterns as well as anything, and ate every kind of load I fed it.

Layered defense. . . . .

The first line of defense - warning signs posted "No Soliciting" @ the front door and "Bad Idea" @ the back door. We've never actually had anyone get past the tripwires on the claymores but if they do the dogs have been promised first dibs on survivors. The 12 gauge double is a sentimental favorite of mine but the rest of the household favors handguns and edged weapons in various flavors.
