What does your choice of camo pattern say about you?

You know, for the longest time (ok, 20+ years) I tended to wear BDUs (for hunting) that were too ratty to wear at work for fear of a butt-chewing. This was due primarily to availability of said ratty BDUs and being to poor to buy "good stuff". Now that I make a little more $ (and my supply of ratty BDUs is dwindling) I did get me some mossy oak (I think thats what it is) clothing, to include overpriced under armor jacket in same pattern. I even have some crye multicam stuff still, but I don't wear it hunting because..... just because.

I like mossy oak cause I like the darker colors as real tree has too much grey. I like the old army woodland camo cause of the colors too.

camo is getting to be a fashion statement. I get what I get on sale. heck ive killed deer 30yards away wearing green GW pants and a blue starter hoodie.

I used to post a picture of pure forest, claiming I had the best camouflage ever. I'd say I was standing by the big tree or whatever.

But a lot of folks got mad at me for wasting their time trying to find me in the picture, so I quit that.

They're still mad at me.

It's been a while since I've hunted with a bow or hunted turkey. Hunter orange kind of makes Camo redundant, so it's generally jeans or field pants.

Mine says, "hey, that dude doesn't wear camo". 11 years in the Army was enough camo for a lifetime. I will sport olive drag from time to time but nothing tacticool/huntacool.

My choice of camo says "This is what I accumulated during 8 years military". Woodland and DCU. Some of my camping gear (deuce gear that has been re-purposed) is olive drab.

I am not sure what it means, but I know some people take it pretty seriously. My mom bought my cousin a camo sweathshirt for casual wear, and my cousin laughed at her for buying the wrong brand, so I guess in some necks of the woods it has taken on a Nike vs Reebok type tone.
I responded what I thought of the cousin's attitude. I thought it worked? Anyway didn't sound too thankful...

I think for the most part camo has become a bit of a fashion statement. I have snuck up more than close to a few animals (bear, deer, moose, badger) and just not moving when they are looking seems to work pretty well. All that said, I do wear it.

I guess, "Low speed, high drag". :)

Not much in the way of camo. Some Woodland, some RealTree, and some Mossy Oak. Along with some blaze orange too.

warp, i didn't own any camo from 1990 til about 2013. then i decided i should probably own a set. i've worn them twice since then. i do tend to wear earthy hiking clothes daily, or "tactical" pants but the latter is mostly because they're cheaper than normal pants and they last for years. the normal pants i buy at regular stores never even last a year.

as far as patterns, i'm pretty fond of the ATACS stuff. I don't have any evidence one way or another but i am pretty skeptical about the efficacy of multicam and especially kryptek

What kind of normal pants have you been buying? I find that the cheap jeans I used to wear came apart pretty quick, but when I started buying some pricier jeans (I think Manager is the best), they lasted a lot longer. Pretty sure one of them lasted about 6 years, and probably 1/2 of that was with a small hole that doesn't open up like the cheap ones. Also curious about the "tactical" pants. I find as soon as that gets stamped on something, the price doubles.

A lot of camo has too small a pattern. I am optimistic on the Kryptec myself. I have a ground blind with the pattern; I will put it in the bush one of these days and see if I can find it!

I wore strictly carhart or schaeffer outfitters jackets for a long time and as I got more into trail riding/hunting etc. I decided it was ok to have a deer colored jacket while I'm on a tractor but I prefer to not be brown when I'm out in the woods.

I found that if you're on a budget and want nice quality outdoor gear that isn't whitetail brown, that camo is the next easiest thing to find. I usually wait till the end of hunting season and look for stuff on clearance. I think I have a mix of mostly mossy oak and realtree and I don't care if I don't disappear in the woods, as long as when people see me they know I'm not a deer. I do wear orange during deer gun season, but don't really want to wear it year round.

I found an oversized set of paint-splattered white painter's coveralls at the thrift store that I used for waterfowling. I figured the random paint splotches broke up the white and they looked like half-melted snow.

Didn't do any good though.

Skunked both times I wore them.

normal business casual stuff, like khakis. i don't own any denim either. my wife bought me some of the high dollar "made in America" pants and they didn't last any longer than something from walmart. very disappoint.

try something like this: $15 http://www.lapolicegear.com/co-bpg-86tp06-lt2.html
more pockets than i want, but looks normal enough in khaki
or lightweight for $18 http://www.lapolicegear.com/bpg-86tp02-lighttac-pant.html

The last time I actually wore camo was 1972 in Vietnam. I was 129 Lbs dripping wet. My wife eventually wore out all my old camo. Then, several years ago I was given a USMC digital camo raincoat. It took a co-worker, also a former Marine, to point out to me that there, embedded in the digital camo, were tiny Eagle, Globe and Anchors every so many square inches. As much as I wore that raincoat I never saw those. They were camouflaged. :)

Urban Camo

Urban Camo....is a extra large trash/grass bag.....filled with cut grass...raked leaves....a few Mcdonald drink cups/burger wrappers..spilling out...laying on the side of the road....with blood shot beady eyes peering out....ready to slay the miscreants...

old-school, Vietnam style camo.
Is actually a bit vague.
The French, especially the Legion wore "Lizard" camo.
Advisors started out in "duck hunter" (often re-purposed USMC '44 or '45 reversible). Then there was "tiger stripe" which came in "yellow, "brown," and "sea foam" patterns.
Towards the end of things, it was green-on-green ERDL camo
That last pattern is what the Army eventually reworked to becom Woodland by adding brown for onw of the green shades and black for the dark green shade.

So, what does that say about me? That I have studied camo too much :)

But, then again, Uncle bade me procure OD, Woodland, Chocolate Chips, DCU (almost a set set of Desert MARPAT), to wind up with blue berries. Sigh. Now, some talk of having us get AOR III. Sigh.

Funny thing. This thread got me thinking about my BDUs and Class A uniform. I don't think I even own them anymore. Maybe my parents put the in storage. Not that I could fit into them without splitting them at the seams. But something that was such an integral part of my daily life at one point is just- POOF!- gone. Guess it's time to dig through some storage bins.

Thanks! I will have to look into these, but I don't do mail order. Hard enough to find pants that fit right when I go to the store.

On a related note, I have a couple, few pairs of old pants that I might "camo" with a little judicious use of spray paint.
