What does Your Wife or significant other Prefer for HD

I've tried all my bottom feeders on her and she can't seem to grasp the basics. I think it's more "don't wanna" than "can't", forget the shotguns and AR, even the levers.

I came home one day with a beat up 4" Taurus .38 special as a project. After I doctored it up she actually enjoyed it so for reliability's sake we picked up a 4" SP101 and I did a spring swap in it. It's loaded with 158 grain LRN .38s but I need to pick up some wadcutters for it. When I am out it's her bed table companion, she's knows to point COM and pull till it goes click. At least it's better than hurling insults.

5' 1"

Mine wouldn't shoot anything but my 22s until I borrowed a friend's Sig 238. It shoots 380 ammo and with the hammer back, the slide can be sling-shotted with no effort and it is extremely accurate, Guess its back to Bud's.

My wife shoots CZ pistols (.40 Rami, 9mm 75, .45 "Silver Team" Witness) and prefers her .300 Blackout AR or .308 Savage 10. She carries a P3AT all the time.

My daughter points a Glock and has an AR in 5.56 with a second upper in .22lr, but I'd not be surprised if she grabbed one of her knives or sticks since she has a black belt and is trained extensively in the use of those (and she's fast as a hornet).

1) 3" Mod 36 Lady Smith gifted from her Dad for college graduation (a very special gift as it was his personal favorite) 2) 4" factory DAO Mod 64 that I keep for HD she is also comfortable with. Her Lady Smith shoots like a dream and points more naturally than just about anything. Male friends have scoffed at the "Ladysmith" until they've shot it--it came with a super smooth factory trigger pull on double action and snaps like a glass rod when shot single action. 3) Mos 500a riot gun for the 'big stick' she'll never grab.

Mine knows my benelli is loaded with 5 rounds of #7 birdshot and should be considered first. Other than that, she's comfortable with any one of the pistols laying around here and there.

ATM, it's pepper spray or a Ka-bar TDI.

My wife was a shooter before we met, but hand injuries and lack of a local/inexpensive range have been challenges to training. By next summer we'll be moving, hopefully to a free state that ameliorates that second set of issues.

To all the men who say their wife won't shoot anything more than a .22 LR, look at getting her a .22 Magnum. A .22 Magnum from a 2"+ barrel loaded with some quality SD hollow points will do much better than .22 LR.

Taurus makes a nine shot convertible .22 Mag revolver called the 991 and they sell for less than $500.

Um, looks as though a few posts have been deleted by mods -- why would those who note their spouses don't pack/shoot not be allowed to note this in the thread?

Good point. Mine was one of the posts that was vaporized. I showed Old Dog's post to my wife this morning. She was mortified. She quickly got my Smith 642 .38 snubby, went to the back garden overlooking the Atlantic, and fired off a round at a possum that had been rampaging through her precious foliage. She missed the varmint but.....

Handed me back the gun and said, "Now, you can go back on line!"

Pistol most likely; exact make, model and platform is unimportant to her. She's competent with all of them including the Ruger Super Redhawk.

With that having been said, she usually favors her Ruger SR9.

My old lady loves her 20g 870 or my 1911. I need to get her one of her own. But she hasn't found gun she doesn't like except the 12g with heavy loads. Just take your wife out shooting with lots of different guns and let her find her way then drop her off alone at the gun counter.

I bought my wife a Sig P232S, she couldn't rack the slide. Back to the drawing boards. Ran across a S&W 15-4, 2.5" for my collection, it is now hers. She shoots it very well, 158 GR. JHP's.

She still gets bored at the range after shooting 50 rounds.

My wife was in the .22LR only camp, too, until me and her oldest son got her to shoot a variety of guns one summer day a few years ago. She realized that anything in .38 Special, 9mm, .40S&W, or .45ACP was probably viable for her. She now has a carry rotation that includes a NAA .22WMR, a Walther P22, a Ruger LCP .380, and a S&W M&P9c. She's considering picking up a 9mm Shield now as well, and has been eyeballing my 637.

She is also well practiced in two martial arts styles. I don't worry much about her.

My wife carries a "typical" ladies' gun, a 4 inch barreled S&W Model 681 with Crimson Trace grips loaded with Remington 125 grain SJHP .357 Magnums. :D

My wife has access to all my guns but she prefers my 2 1/2" S&W 66-2 for her home gun. She told me that with the grips it currently has it fits her hands almost perfectly. The S&W is loaded with 125 gr. SJHP .38 Special +P. This was the same load I was required to carry on my last security job and was the first load issued when I became a police officer. It served me well and I know it will serve her just as well.

My wife keeps her Glock 19 for HD. She constantly makes sure I still have a Remington 870 in the house as well. She's shot the 870 before, and though she really doesn't like it, I'm certain that if she were called upon to defend our kids while home, she would use the 870 in a heartbeat.

M116 75 mm Pack Howitzer...neighbors don't like the noise but the scummies do not return. Also difficult to take if your home is burgled unless bad guy is driving a half track.
