What happens to all of the weapons taken from people in New Orleans and other parts of Lousiana? Is there a reciept given to the owners so that they can legaly recover thier property after the crises? Will these firearms be destroyed? And if they are isn't that a violation of a Constitutional requirement? Enquiring minds want to know!

I am sure some LEO's will have new additions to their collections :fire:

The legal owners of those firearms will never see them again.

That is the funiest thing I have heard yet!
That's the way it is usually done, but I dunno if there is anything 'usual' about this.

Judging from how NO has the most corrupt police dept in america, and there is no diffrence between them and cops in mexico,I say they added alot to there collection, among other things they unlawfuly took.

The ones not kept by corrupt police* will be made into a "peace memorial" to honor the "victims" of Hurricane Katrina.

If they are disarming non-threatening people they are by my definition corrupt.

Welcome to THR Sfstar.

You beat me to it. While it would be normal for the gun owners to get receipts, and be able to claim their guns (sooner or later) - this is NOPD we're talking about. In a few months, you're going to see LEOs down there carrying custom Kimbers, etc.

I have to disagree about the bit with the Mexican police though. NOPD uniforms are much sharper looking.

I think the most appropriate action for people who have had their property seized is to go to the city and file a claim for return of the property or for its monetary value. This sets the stage for a lawsuit should the city deny the claim or fail to respond in the time required by law to respond to such claims.

Anyone who has their firearm confiscated should immediately call the BATFE and report it stolen. Have then add the serial number into the database that holds all stolen firearms. Hopefully someone will catch a LEO in possesion of stolen propterty and he will be properly dealt with.

I agree. Theft is theft, whilst the Class 3 stuff taken will be paperlessly added to the PD inventory, and illegally removed from the National Registry - try to get it back, and get nailed for NFA 34 violations!

Hey, its stolen property. You should call the police and make a repo --- uh what a minute here, something does not compute. :uhoh:

Your homeowner's insurance will not pay because it excludes "acts of government."
The State/City will not pay because the guns are being confiscated during a "declaration of emergency" and no law requires them to compensate anyone.
The guns the police don't take home for personal use will undoubtedly be "stored" in piles in the wet and will be destroyed as much as if they'd been melted into an anti-gun statue.
No one will be getting a gun returned. Nor see any $$$.

The Brady Bunch are throwing a big party at their Washington DC offices.

When you Congressman or state Legislator tells you he supports your Second Amendment rights, ask him to amend federal and/or state "emergency" laws to prevent gun confiscation. Bet'cha $5 he or she WON'T do it.

In return for the gun, you get a $2000 gift card. Probably good at any Houston gun dealer. If some NO thugs don't take it from you, because you have no gun to stop them

Regards.

Anybody really think that those Democrats left in NO, whose guns are being confiscated, actually have any "custom Kimbers?" Bet they're collecting some really fine weapons down there!

Yes, I bet the NOPD will be sporting some nice new hardware. There's probably some nice antiques in the mix as well. The Saturday Night Specials will add weight to the dike repairs.

Are there any "Molon Labe"-style stand-offs happening? I don't think we need any of those news reports, "whacko gunman sits in his arsenal, police poop their pants and resign"

Regards.

Just wait. Now that the tenants and landowners are all out of the way, here comes "redevelopment". Those folks being kicked out are being disarmed because many of them are going to be very, very angry when they find out that the city is not going to let them have anything back (if they are even allowed to come back). And they are also going to find out that what they left behind has been picked clean.

Damn right they are confiscating guns. Guilty minds fear their victims.
