What has happened to THR

I understand. Me too (though less than you). Working on it.
I get it that you have to have ads to help keep the lights on , but every time I flip to another page here it comes up again, shouldnt have to close out an advert every time I go to another subject, its sort of annoying. I will quit whining now,I know you have put lots of work into the new look, and its good over all just takes a bit of getting used to it. By the way, thank you for all of the good info on this sight !

Yeah, I've already noticed a number of functionality improvements that I really like over the old version. I did prefer the look of the old version, but it's just because my eyes were used to it.

I just received a response from Derek on that very topic. He is working on it.

The changes just took place and will be ongoing. Site Questions, Comments, and Tech Support covers many of the changes as well as The High Road Maintenance Status also describes the changes and migration. While the new changes do take getting acquainted with the changes are for the better and offer some new features we did not have previously. Yep, you learn to like it. :)

If I was going to link to one blog post, it would be this one, where I tried to describe the reasoning. Basically, our reason for existing is outreach, and we were failing at that because our software wasn't offering "modern" features, so we finally bit the bullet. We probably waited too long, honestly. I committed to this software in October of last year (my license needs to be renewed in the next week), and I was really, really hesitant to pull the trigger. Realizing it had been a year was what finally pushed me to get it over with.

It's a good thing. It just doesn't feel that way to lots of people yet.

You are absolutely right, and that shouldn't have happened, and I don't know why it happened yet. I've turned everything off and am slowly turning bits and pieces back on to make sure things are working as they should (and that I understand what's going on.)

If ads really bother you it might be a rough 24 - 48 hours as I get things ironed out. I'm sorry for that. A big part of the problem is that I'm violating a central tenet of change management: I'm making multiple changes at the same time. With that said, I'm doing the best I can.

Sorry for the hassle.

It is definitely different, but I REALLY like the new format, and this is coming from someone who despises change. So many times, in my experience, change is done for the sake of change, because the powers that be think they have a vision to "make it better" (see: my workplace). In this case, we seem to have gained a lot of functionality, as well as ease of use, especially on mobile devices.

I think all those involved have done a great job. Ads, I haven't seen in a while since becoming a contributing member.

I bucked doing the taptalk thing, just another app. And it showed, because when I would do auto-fill, letters would drop out. Now it looks like all is well in that regard.

The only issue I seem to have now. Is when I use the search icon, the text box for search words is blank, but the text box for username defaults with mine. And the date input box shows my password. That is with using my phone. I haven't checked it out on the computer yet.

I'm using a Droid and the Dolphin browser, if that helps. Who knows, maybe the issue is on my end.

Thanks :)

The new format isn't really bad and I can get used to it. However, PLEASE make things have more contrast! It is devilishly hard to read some parts that are in the "pastel blue on creame" bits or just pastel anything on white. PLEASE, PLEASE evict the pastel anything colors. They do weird things to my eyes and make it very hard to read for some reason. The text of the posts is perfect, just some of the buttons and things.

That said, GOOD JOB Derek! Keep up the good work and eventually, the wrinkles will be shaken / ironed out!

Noted. And thanks.

It's gonna be OK and only get better. Just have some patience. It does take some looking around for stuff but as I keep poking around, I am finding more new options and it gets easier.
I will get used to it.
I don't think it's very considerate to bash the migration. Those that are complaining are not taking into account the huge amount of work that was done behind the scenes.
It really ticks me off to see complaints. What does complaining do to add to the quality of THR?

I think it has a cool retro look. Kind of reminds me of when I first discovered forums. I do wish the post count was shown.

What happened to the "quote" button when posting a reply? I used to be able to cut and paste a previous post in a thread, and then put it in a quote box with one click of a button.

Should have left well enough alone. I believe these changes will lose some older members and I personally don't see anything to attract new members.

Such is life it seems.

I have to agree. When change is absolutely needed, fix it. However, when nothing is broken, what's to fix? We can't let Google dominate our existence.
However, the new format is here for the foreseeable future. We have choices. We can live with it or we can leave. Time will tell if Water-Man is correct.

The like feature is the most abominable addition. As we see on Facebook, and many other sites, it starts corrupting the "messages," and turns them into popularity contests. A lose, lose situation if ever there was one.

I have also not been here in quite some time.....found that the new format does not care for chrome.....IE, Edge, Firefox all just fine, but with Chrome I can't always put in a reply.

For everyone asking about the post count:
On the bottom left-hand side of your screen you should see text that says "default style". Click on that and change it to "THR Test". Colors will change and post count, or messages as it is known on this software, will appear.

Yes. This is configurable on a per-theme basis, and one has it right now, and one doesn't. Staff are considering what the default will be, and the big hang-up is "does the username-avatar field become too long with short posts if we enable all that data? After all, a click will show it anyway."

We haven't reached a consensus yet.

On my computer, it does. On my phone, it does not.

I don't carry any weight around here but I would vote to keep it. I know post count doesn't matter but for some reason I like seeing it. Maybe it is because I am used to it.

Quick question Derek. I have been a contributing member for 2 or 3 years (can't remember, too many hits to the head over the years). Are we still going to be able to do that with the new software?
