What have I got?

I recently purchased, at a very good price, a Mosin Nagant 91/30. Date on the reciever is 1941, serial numbers match on the reciever, mag.floorplate and bolt.
The problem I am having is that there are no other marks on the reciever! I have no idea who made it! The rifle is in as issued condition, tight chamber, bright bore, exellent crown. The bluing is perfect and the stock has a few handeling marks. I just don't know where it was made!

Any suggestions? Pics will be posted this evening.

several things can confuse this issue, all envolve refinishing, aresenal rebuild, or captured rifle, refitted for use by the other side.

With both the Finns and Russains using identical rifles, and propaganda machines going full tilt, purifying the rifle, removing the markings from the other sides arsenals, is or was a real possiblility. A lot of things were going on in 1941. But study the issue and rifle and go from there.

There is a listing for Nagants that had the Imperial Russian Crest wiped out after the revelotion.

At about the time of the revelotion the Finns gained independence and retained many Nagants while I haven't read that they worried much about the marking's on these rifles, there is a real possibility that in any of the battles that they fought with the RED army some may have been lost.

I can just imagine the upset that a politcal officer would have had finding an imperial crest on a rifle in the ranks.

It is a WAG that the no marking but 41 would fit into this, but the time frame is there.

it appears to be made at the Izhevsk asenal from what I can tell. A good website to try and match the markings is www.7.62x54r.net . good luck and enjoy your new rifle.
