Nothing in the gun room, but I ordered another used Lyman hand case trimmer, a 9mm, a45acp, 30/30, 30/06 crimp dies and a 100 - 30/30 cases.
So I made a modification to my new workbench. Added a couple of braces to the bottom shelf, which pulls the laterals together, and provides a good solid base to hold nearly anything I put down there. It won’t be seen, but I used birch. It not going to finish it in any fashion.
Loaded a few 240 grain cast, sized to .230, on top of 7.6 grains of Green Dot in some "short" 44 mag cases. Made up about 40 of those in some Hornady Leverlution or what ever brass. It was all about .020" shorter than the minimum for trimming and I didn't want to trim back hundreds of everything else to match those. I also sized and put gas checks on about 100 240 grain 44's. I'll set up and do something with those tomorrow probably.
Hi... I loaded 150 rounds of .45Colt with 8.0grs of Unique and a powder coated 255gr LSWC from Kings Shooter's Supply. Still have some more cases ready to load later this evening if I have time.
Loaded 42 rounds of elk medicine tonight. 30-06, 168gr Barness TTSX, max charge of IMR 4350. 12 more days of work until I get to hunt bull elk
My wife left me alone unsupervised today while attending her hair appointment. Everyone has three scales right ?
I loaded a 100 rounds today for two different workups. 30 in 9mm and 70 in 38 special with Titegroup. I got tired of making small changes and waiting until the next weekend to go try them out so I figured I would spend the day loading up through the entire powder spread at .1 increments and hopefully get everything ironed out in one shooting session. If the 9mm doesn't work out this time it's going to be a powder change. Today was the fist time I have loaded for the 38. I'm hoping to be able to put the working up business behind me. I feel like the equipment is finally getting broken in and throwing consistent charges. I'm still measuring every drop and it's very time consuming. If I can sneak out early in the morning I'm going to go see what happens.
Hi... Took a couple days off from reloading. Back at it today... Loaded up 94 more .45Colt with 8.0gr of Unique with a 255gr LSWC from Kings Shooter's Supply. Loaded 241 rounds of .41Mag with .215 gr LSWC and 8.5gr of Unique. Loaded 279 rounds of .44Mag with 10 gr of Unique and a 240 Lead flat point commercial cast bullet. All loaded on my RockChucker. All my empty .41Mag, .44Mag and .45 Colt brass is now loaded. With what I had left from previous loading sessions, I now have a .30cal ammo can full of each caliber. Now I need to re stock my bullet inventory.
I partially prepped 130 cases for 30-30. Tumbled, wiped, resized/ decapped, wiped off lube and tumbled. I forgot to shut the tumbler off at midnight so they will be really clean. Ha. I had been loading the Speer 170 deep curls with IMR 4350. I talked to someone at Speer and got a list of powders they suggest with this bullet. Varget was the one I decided on. I checked 4 or 5 suppliers online with no luck. I also called 5 stores near me and Cabelas thought they had some. Went there and no luck. The one store I dont shop at much had it. They are high priced but for one pound but I bit the bullet to try it. A week ago, i loaded 50 rounds of .308 for my FR8 and 25 rounds for a rifle I'm babysitting (NO 1903-A3) after having the headsoace checked.
Cast 350 45ACP 200 grain SWC. Lee tumble lube. After an over night dry tomorrow I’ll run thru the sizer.
I tumbled about 500 9mm cases. While that was going on I set up the dies on the 650 and made 2 dummy rounds. I've got the COL where it needs to be but I think the crimp is too tight/low. I can see the bullet base in the brass.
The slight bulge showing where the base of the bullet is in the case is normal and shows good neck tension. If you had the die adjusted so the crimp went that far down you would know it. All you want to do with the taper "crimp" in 9MM is remove the flare and maybe a hair more, think .001 more. This is a .38 Super, but it should be the same way. It doesn't show much bulge at the bullet base because my sizer is barely tight enough.
Well, My reloading setup was in shambles. I was getting more powder and bullets and just plopping them on my bench. Between loads for my PA10, FR8, ,300 WM and NO1903A3, I ran a bunch of 30-30 brass, The 30-30 is mostly ready for primers. A friend got a bunch of used 6mm reloading things and wanted to watch me run a bit. I cleaned 130 cases, resized 115, trimmed 110 to length and cleaned the primer pockets. When he comes, I'll show him how to set up the dies and resize the 15 I hadn't. I have 5 that I can show him how to trim , clean primer pockets and flash holes and have 10 rounds or so to prime, charge and seat bullets. I put up a small shelf to put my bullets in. I reorganized my brass shelves. Making progress 2019-11-16_08-51-27 by poofy27, on Flickr
Had a family emergency kept me off the reloader for the past 5 weeks. I had completely run out of my DEWC 38 loads that I rely on for punching paper. I loaded 750 last night. Hit the range today, tumbled and prepped brass for 9mm and 38 spl. Rolled off af 300 more of the 38 before I ran out of primers. I know I have 1,000 Fed spp somewhere. Felt good to get back on the bench. Also unpacked 4,000 115 gr, FMJ 9mm bullets from everglades. Nice sale running at Everglades Ammo as we speak. Not affiliated in any way. Cheap price Free & Fast shipping.
Loading the 500 cast 200 semi wad cutters, in the past would have done this in one session, now I stretch it out over a few hours.
I cleaned and prepped about 150 cases of 38 special and 45 acp. I also loaded 100 rounds of 38 special. I need to get a progressive press this single stage press is killing my arms.
I set up and played with my new RCBS Chargemaster combo. After my crappy deer opening day and weekend I stopped at Cabela's on the way home. I know, everybody hates Cabela's but me. Lol Anyway, I had a gift card from my birthday so I stopped. Wasn't really looking for a Chargemaster but it was on sale for $314. They also had gift cards on sale for 10% off so I bought $300 worth for $270. Used the gift cards and my $15 in reward points so I got it for $270 plus tax.
Finally got time to get ready to get back to reloading after a busy year or so. Today was reorganizing shotshell hulls and sectioning some oddballs and newer makes I found during dove season for the “library” of hulls. I also found a sack of 16 and sack of 28 gauge hulls hiding in there. I don’t have either but there’s no reason not to hold them just in case.
I shot some of those with out the gas check a couple days ago in my NEF rifle. It didn't seem to like 'em at all and they seemed to be all over for the few I shot out of it. They almost sounded like duds actually. Figured I'd just burn 'em up playing with the pistol shooting ice but these feel like some serious loads out of that 5 inch black hawk and I shot 6 more today from the super black hawk 7 1/2" barrel and those are not plinkers from a pistol. It is a 2 hander deer load out a that pistol and right on the money all the way out to 50-60 yards. I never had to touch the sight from what ever it was set from shooting last.
