put some 40 year old brass in a tumbler. maybe it was older than that - don't know. old British 303 that was just collected at some point. ran tumbler for about 8 hours. made it smoother and shinier but nothing like new brass at all. next test will be to put new media in tumbler and compare a similar test with a few cartridges of the same aged brass, to compare effect.

Took my last batch of 45acp test loads to the range today. Interesting results, will post in my Sport Pistol thread.

Then did the usual after a trip to the range - cleaned guns, sorted and decapped brass. As usual, I came back with more brass than I shot.

Got the rest of my change rolled up, $190 plus the $286 from yesterday. $476 changed saved this year so it paid for my $400 Glock 23 and I have $76 for reloading stuff.

    20191230_210633.jpg

I ran three dime rolls short, I will pick some up tomorrow when I turn the change in to dollars.

Now I can get back to what the bench was made for.

Today I got in a set of 32acp dies that I can get set up. I order the set of Redding 32 Remington dies and the set of Hornady 300 Blackout. I will get them set up when they come in. I have two & a half of the six pack Lock n Load bushings hanging on the pegboard.

I have an appointment to sign up for social security on Febuary 11th. When I get the cash coming in I will pick up a 300 Blackout pistol upper for my 80% lower I have machined.
    I'd like to get a 15" barrel.

Loaded 200 rounds of .357 in two different types of bullets as part of the never ending work up. Also loaded 12 38 special for an experiment in low recoil and noise reduction. I think a have enough loaded up now to shoot for quite a while.

I found the little tray and holder for an old Herter's mechanical powder measure. I thought it was old and done in, but what do you know - as soon as I put the tray and hanger in place - it zeroed in on the nose. Will likely use it to sanity check digital scale and visa versa.

    Changing powder!
My brothers comp doesn't like the Titegroup powder and powdercoated lead 124gr TC "Black" bullets so we are going with Berrys 115gr plated and CFE Pistol. I loaded up 50 as a test batch starting at the min load from the Hodgdon app at 5.3gr to 5.9gr. 1.125COAL with CCI primers

He is shooting his "open" Glock 17 with a Agency arms barrel and Zevpro comp. 13lb uncaptured spring
We ran an average of 1150fps at 5.3, 1179fps at 5.5 (1172,1175,1177,1183, 1191), 1237fps at 5.7 and 1274fps at 5.9fps. The gun runs fine at any load but the accuracy was best at 5.5 which is also about a 135PF.

I charted all the chrono results with colored primers for my nervous double check habits. The 5.9 loads were over the recommended Berrys max velocity. Then I loaded up 250+ at 5.5gr for the next match. We will see how they shoot and hope they are cleaner than the powder coated bullets with titegroup!! He is tired of chiseling out his comp!

I propped up and rebuilt the bottom shelf under my reloading bench the last couple days after noticing it had collapsed under the weight of components and was setting on loaded boxes of shotgun shells.

I finally broke down and bought some One Shot spray case lube. Decided to load some quantity .223 ammo, and the old fashioned way of lubing takes too long for that, so I tried One Shot. Jeez, what the heck was I waiting for - this stuff rocks. It DOES leave a tiny film, and it says on the can that is deliberate to facilitate extraction, but otherwise, easy and fast.

I was useing Hornady One Shot and switched over to home made spray, ten to one Heet Dry Gas and Liquid Lanolon.
It's a lot cheaper. I load a lot of ammo so I go through a lot of lube.

    Hi...
Nothing today in the reloading room.
I had an appointment and some chores to do, so not time.
Have a 5lb coffee can full of empty brass to separate from the New Year's Day shoot.
Tomorrow I have to do some research for a gun auction on Saturday...need to write down the items I am interested in and my maximum bids. I always do that so I don't get caught up in a bidding war and overpay.
Mostly looking at some tools and new and once fired brass that is being offered

Loaded my first .357 Magnum cases today. Had been putting it off for too long. Actually went with a hybrid load. Berry’s 158gr CPFP over IMR 4227. 10 @ 9.0gr, 10 @ 9.5gr, 10 @ 10.0gr. Essentially a 38 Spl load in .357 Mag cases. Used CCI 550 SPM primers to ensure all the powder burns.

Next I sized and primed 200 40S&W, and primed and expanded another 100 previously sized cases. Will try to load those 300 40 S&W tomorrow night.

Lastly, a late post, I swapped my problematic 300 AAC blackout 10’5” carbine gas barrel out with a new 10.5” pistol gas barrel. And I completed a PSA Yeet Cannon lower with an Aero Precision LPK and an SBA3 brace. So finally, all of my ARs have their own lowers, and I have a spare Aero Precision complete upper to start my 2020 builds.

Loaded up 250 rounds of .223 Remington with 62 gr. Hornady SP, 24.5 gr Ramshot TAC, CCI-400 and Federal brass, finishing off my 600 plus primed, ready to load prepped Federal cases. I now have an almost full Harbor Freight plastic ammo can full of that load. Not a “TAC” driver, but a good all purpose round for the AR’s out to 300 yards or so. Next step, prep 600 or 700 Perfecta cases to replace the ready to load Federals. Might also crank up the Dillon and load up 1,000 9 mm’s.

I culled out and scrapped nearly 1000 LC 7.62mm cases. :( I bought these cases as 'once-fired, processed' for my M1a over 10 years ago, but these particular cases have suffered complete case head failures (not normal case head separations, if you are familiar with brass fired in the M14 action,) and I'm at the point of not being able to trust them. I still have about 500 loaded cartridges... so I will have to break out the kinetic puller and start banging the bullets out... one of my least favorite things to do in the world.

Screenshot_20200103-134631_Gallery.jpg More drizzly ole day having fun shooting my cast 22-250 R700V. Primer testing, still using up the last of a batch of bullets. Scraping bttm so either gotta fire up the pot or shoot something else for awhile? Got a minty R700V,walnut/blued in a factory straight 6mm. Wearing an old 5star Redfield 6-18,it's stupid badarse with that 95g RCBS mould, backed with SR4759.

Found a good way to store my growing collection of B&S,and Starrett punches on the loading bench. These are a 7-08 and a 223,factory black plastic cartridge holders.

Went through and cleaned up the non-reloading part of my man cave. Didn't throw much away but made room by combining items in the storage tote. Labeled quit a few so I know what's in them.

Loaded another 25 .357 as part of a work up today after work. I have too much to shoot this weekend. Hopefully I find the right recipe. I'm over stocked for my regular range bags might have to buy another one to help get all of my guns and ammo to the range. I need to get this new .357 dialed in so I can concentrate on the fun part.

I'm trying to do the same thing... the gun room seems to have become the catch-all in the house... and we can't have that. Additionally, I'm trying to cull out the shooting and reloading stuffs I don't need any longer and get them out of the house.

Not sure time in the room today. Did dump the last 3k rmr 124 mw bullets in a 30 caliber ammo can and labeled. In review of stock I've got 8k of that specific bullet and 2k more ox the precision delta jhp. Only have about 1800 loaded so may need to load another 800 but I'm still setup for 45acp...

Humm such choices... more 45 or get back on the 9mm train

Haven’t reloaded anything but did order some “accessories” for my classic turret that showed up today.

Since my reloading room is also my man cave and project room, I spent the better part of the day building a couple of rabbit boxes. Checked em out for function and carried them out to a thicket near my house. Hope to catch a couple of cotton tails and cook up some fried rabbit and gravy in the next few days.

    https://www.offthegridnews.com/survival-hunting/how-to-build-a-box-rabbit-trap/

Replaced the dehumidifier in my powder storage cabinet.

Broke open a case of CCI mini mags and checked the zero on my Henry Frontier. Will try to get in a couple of squirrel hunts this next week.
