Biggest reason I am is temp stability. From 80s to negative teens are all real possibilities around here hunting… and 100 plus target shooting in summer…

Any extruded powder should be fine. Not many are near as stable as h4350 but a lot of other powders ride on its reputation. I think a bunch of people get caught up in the hype. If your only using a pound for that specific load maybe, people are buying it 8lbs at a time paying insane prices. I don't play below freezing but 105 to 40 ish. The big problems come from guys pushing the limit in loads developed at 60 then trying to shoot them in the summer heat. I develop in the hot and just shoot till it's uncomfortable to be outside and quit

Generally speaking IF You are unable to find Your favorite reloading powder ,often substituting up or down the powder burn scale by1-3 is Safe and gets the job done . The Newer powders will be Temperature stable in almost all cases .

This has been my year to bleed cash. I haven’t been so broke since the year I got audited. The first time.

Picked up this S&W 460XVR today.
I was given these quality reloads with it.
I love the red marker on half the bullets.
I guess I’m pulling 150 or so rounds.

I got a “real-time” range day today and was able to test a 178gr eldx from a308 win on a whitetail. It’s highly effective.
Edit: By highly effective I mean instant off button.

I loaded up some test loads for 45ACP. I have a CMP 1911 coming eventually and before I run 500 off the Dillon, I want to test a few different loads to see how they do. The bullet was Armscor 230gr FMJ and I used Red Dot, WW231, Clays and Unique. I loaded 7 shots for each charge used.

Tumble lubed some .380/9MM bullets in the reloading room.

Put new carb and gasket on Stihl 021 chainsaw in the shop.

The desire to load up and be ready is strong, I'm resisting as much as I can. Load only as many as your ready to pull if there not right.

0.467" crimp (feeds better in my Pardini)
    0.928-0.930" case head to shoulder

The cool thing about 460 S&W is you can shoot 45Colt, 454 Casull, and of course, 460 S&W, IIRC! Of Course, I wouldn't to get hit by even a "lowly" Cowboy spec 255gr LFN 45 Colt load haha...

Update on the 454 Casull and 460S&W bullets.
    I pulled
The battle of the 150 rounds of 454 Casull /460 S&W continues.
After pulling 65 rounds of 454 Casull which were loaded with 31gr of H110 my Hornady #13 collet decided to give up the ghost. The end of the collet broke off.
This leaves about 100 rounds to disassemble.
These rounds laugh at a kinetic hammer.

I’ll call Hornady tomorrow for a replacement but I’ll probably try to locate one locally also.

I've gotten lucky and found a .451/.458 Hornady collet at Cabela's in OKC a while back by sheer luck so maybe try there if there is one near you?
Edit: holy cow 31gr of H110?? That sounds stout!!

I haven’t loaded for nor do I own a 460 yet, but that’s probably about right. I believe the case length if I recall correctly is 1.80! As opposed to the 44 magnum’s 1.28.
Edit; Hornady list the max load for h110!behind a 200 grain FTX bullet as 52.7 gr.

Huh, so maybe not so bad after all...to be clear I haven't loaded anything close to 460 S&W unless you count modest spec 45-70, lol! Which arguably is probably even more stout than the strongest 460 loadings.

Um I'm thinking a max load of 460 is more powerful than all but the ruger loads... I'd like to see data...

Ok so you got me curious now... I looked up on Hodgdons website just now 460 and 45-70 in a handgun and found this.
    460 S&W 300gr bullet out of a 12in barrel.

Trying to pick up the gun cave after a busy week...

Sold 2 long guns, packed one up...
Sold some odd .348 bullets, boxed those up...
Worked on my friend's Marlin 336 in .30-30... remounted the XS scout scope mount...
Put together an AR upper for my brother, for Christmas..
Put together an AR upper... for me...
Holy Toledo... the water heater pilot went out... go dig up the instructions (file cabinet is in the cave...)
    Update brass inventory sheets...
Help another THR member with some load figures...
Reorganize my gun part carrier box thing...
Reorganize my range tool kit... after I had to dump it out on the floor to get the punches out... to assemble the AR uppers...
Check my shooter's data sheets to make sure I have everything in the ammo cans for the trip to NV at Christmas (prior planning prevents... really bad... performance...)
Make sure I have AN EXTRA 9V BATTERY FOR THE CHRONOGRAPH...

Unfortunately, I didn't even touch the pile of .308 brass setting there waiting for me.... but it's supposed to rain tomorrow, so maybe.

    *sigh*
