What have you done in the reloading room today

Just some final organizing and prep for my weekend of reloading today, gents. More of an excuse to sit at the bench and listen to music than anything else at this point. The bench is looking pretty, pretty, pretty good. (Apologies to Larry David).

I decided to load a small amount (25 rounds) of 45 LC just to get the rhythm going again on the press after a summer off. Making sure the digital scale worked and agreed with the balance scale, and that all my equipment was in top shape and ready to go for marathon reloading this weekend.

Funny side-bar story. I had an Etsy/eBay seller custom fabricate some 45 LC reloading trays last fall. He saw my bench photo of the old 1995 Midway wooden reloading blocks, and told me if it were him, he'd stick with the old wooden blocks because they looked cool on my bench and pass on buying his new polycarbonate loading blocks. You have to give it to him for being honest. A man that is in business to sell reloading blocks, and he tells me not to buy his reloading blocks and stay with my old blocks. I bought them anyway. He had to make the 45LC blocks custom for me as his 45 ACP blocks would obviously not fit the rim on a 45 LC. I bought blocks from him that fit every caliber I currently reload for, and the footprint on my bench is much smaller than the wooden block tray footprint, so that frees up shelf space. And the fact that he custom fabricated 45 LC blocks for me at no extra charge is worth the purchase alone.

I like the new blocks. A much sleeker profile, well made, rubber feet for stability and color coded so I know which blocks belong to which caliber;

Why are we comparing scales and not using standards....

Why are we comparing scales and not using standards....

I get what you are asking. I am not comparing scales. My mistype. I wanted to make sure my scales are standard, and the balance scale and digital was zeroed well. Not that I can't do it before I start reloading. Just keeping busy for the sake of being at the bench today.

"out with the old wooden blocks"....!!! Nooo, what are you going to do with those?:what: Please don't toss 'em. Somebody can use those.

No way I'm tossing them. They are in a box on the bottom shelf of the bench in storage. I may use them later. Tastes change, and I may want them back in 10 years. Who knows. And I may have a caliber in there that is not covered by the new blocks, as I have a large selection of those old Midway blocks. I have (if I ever get it back) a 303 British rifle at the gunsmith that is being checked for safety and headspace. He's had it since June, so I probably won't get it back until late fall or even Winter. He says he's buriied with work. When I do get it back, one of those old wooden reloading blocks may just fit a 303 British. If not, I found ONE online block that will fit 303 British. It will be the only "Necked" carttridge that I will reload. I gave up on Necked cartridges 15 years ago. But my father bought me that 303 British, so it's an heirloom, and I'll reload for it.

BTW folks, I am running low on IMR4064 for my 30-06 and when I can find it, the price is crazy, like $68.00 a lb! Looking for a VV substitute. You fellows know what I could switch to? Thanks.
Hornady manual lists N-135 as a good powder for 30-06 service rifle. I just bought 8 lbs myself but haven't loaded anything with it yet.

Graf’s order came today (FedEx apparently tried yesterday, but no one to sign)…..
Ordered on 22SEP… on a Sunday late eve..
Would say that’s pretty good service/shipping time…
Gonna put these on the shelf..
Have heard from some folks here that they are as good as any…..

Loaded 150 Mini Magnums. Settled on this after experimenting to find a .357 load for small frame .357 guns - like the Colt Viper/King Cobra - that didn't pierce my eardrums and set my eyeballs on fire. Not the fastest, but no sticky cases, flamethrower or thunderclap.

Magtech primers are good I have there SR primers for my 454 casull never had an issue with them.

Starting the day off with finally getting my range leloading kit done. I never completed the foam inserts last spring because I kept changing my mind on what I wanted in the kit. Two cases. One a computer case (large left) that I found foam insert for on Amazon. The other (smaller right) is a camera case that came with the foam. Left case for range reloading hardware. Bullets and brass will fit in the case top compartments. Right case is for powder, measuring and primers.

Now I know why you said elsewhere you needed money.

I have that Speer #11 also,

That was my first manual, from back when my brother got his Reloader Special Kit back in 1986... still sets up on the shelf, even though I updated to #14 last year. If you know where to look, there's some pretty cozy data in that #11!

It's just a touch slower than imr4895. So if you have a good load with that your already close....

If you think you can benefit from a little slower powder, you could try N140... that's my plan to replace IMR4064, for use in my 24" Savage .308.

I forgot I had to order more LNL inserts for the new press... and I don't want to fool with the .45ACP dies, which are already set... so I ordered 10 of them from Larry, and.... ooops... 1000 150grn Hornady .30 FMJ's fell into the cart, too. *sigh* Won't be here until Monday, though... :(

You stumble and buy a box, I tell my kids these lead boxes are in the way, so I cast 1000... 🤣
