What have you done in the reloading room today

It’s an old Midway box, just happens they made them blue

I sure wish they still made those... those blue boxes were the best. They quit making those, and released some cheezy, translucent... super flimsy... boxes, that work great as long as you don't try to move them.

My LNL bushings came in, so I busied meself with setting up the LNL for 9mm. Looks like I have everything set right... all I need to do is add primers, and set the powder drop, and I'll be on my way. I've got 250 Hornady 115grn FMJ's to work up with WSF and prove out my setup on the LNL, then I'll switch to all those RMR 124's.

Put away the Hornady 150grn .308 FMJ's that came in my order... that gives me about 1700. Prolly this winter, I'll start loading .30-M1 and 7.62mm ammos, with some W748.... 1700 bullets should burn up about 10# of it.

Finished 150 .38 Special 145 grain RNHP. I fill the cylinder with the 145 grain SWC-HP version, but the RNHP reloads smoother from speedloaders and speedstrips. Both good for airweight guns, or older revolvers for a gentler experience.

My order from Lee Precision showed up today with the last 5 of the new stepped PTX expanders for 38 super , 44 magnum, 357 magnum 45 auto and 40 S&W . I really like these stepped expanders I tried 2 of them on 9mm and 38 special and was really impressed I sold my NOE ones that I had for these 2 cartridges.

Another Sunday where I did not sleep in and made it to the bench by 5:30am. A co-worker had some brass to give me, most of it was 30-06 RP and some 38spl. Got that cleaned and is now in the dryer. Placed a small order with Midway. Went out to tighten up some exhaust clamps on my son's car that we just put the exhaust on. Now back to the reloading room to make a run at 357 Sig.

I started taking apart .45Auto again. Found several that were 6.9-7.1gr of 231 under 200gr LSWC’s.

How did that happen? Just curious.

Due to space constraints I gotta keep things tidy.

A place for everything, and everything in it's place... that's been my reloading room motto for about 15 years, when I moved it out of the garage and into a bedroom closet upstairs, with very limited space. Because I recently moved from the front bedroom, into the bedroom over the garage, everything is in a different place... it's rather unnerving. I have a lot of clutter about, because I did lose some storage space, and I haven't quite gotten the new, available storage space sorted out just yet... I just don't feel at home. Where before I would just reach over, and there It was... now I have to walk around the bench, or reach the other way for It... or it's over on the other side of the room.

I am in that club. I was at the bench this morning at 6 AM. Got up at 5, coffee, and a short walk to the bench after a few cups. Decades of getting up at 5 AM has me waking up around 4:30 - 5:00 regardless now. If I sleep in until 7:00, it's a miracle. Rarely, if ever, happens.

My wife is the same way. She got up for her various jobs at 0430 for years and years, and now that she is 'retired...' she still wakes up at 4-5AM. When I wake up at 0700, and she's still in bed, I poke it with a stick... to make sure it's not dead.

My "Complete Reloading Manual" should be here by Tuesday. That should give some ideas for my 7x57 Mauser[sporterized 1895 Chileano].
So far, so good with starting loads.

Edit; Thanks for the idea 3sport.

No worries my friend. You are one of the main reasons I now reload and enjoy 45 Colt, and believe me, I ENJOY it. So I owe you at least one favor. I have a feeling you'll find a copy useful. Speaking of 45 Colt, I got my copy of the 45 Colt Complete Reloading Manual from a seller on eBay that was clearing and closing his reloading bench. For the price of a candy bar plus a very small postage fee.

I have one for 250-300/250savage. Handy (if dated) info. I suppose they update them but the Sierra and… uuuum one other are pretty old…

Your father in law’s if I’m remembering right? I’m wondering if he went unique data by “default”? That’s in that ballpark… it’s tough, really tough to follow the decline of a meticulous reloader!(especialy if it’s the one who was a mentor; sniff sniff… I’m watching it now… I really am inclined to think it’s one of the “ok for a grown man to cry” scenarios.)

In all honesty it’s just one wall where I have my desk and my stand. Due to space constraints I gotta keep things tidy.

What I really like is how you have the desk with laptop as a work area, but you have off-set the actual reloading (Press/Powder Drop, Etc) to the lift side at their own station. Nicely done. I would consider doing the same if I had not already set everything up at my main bench.

I hope as I get older my boy helps me stay in the game in a smart way. A cast bullet is easy to verify good and safe wilist a loaded round is way more difficult...

As pops would have said, “Du hast es rechts.”
The only thing I can figure is he was getting distracted and pulling the drop on his Lee Disk uneven and sometimes twice. He only used two powders for .45 - W231 and 700X. The two don’t look a thing alike and 7gr is a kaboom load for either one. I’m also finding quite a few with high primers and a few with missing primers. It’s amazing how quickly he went downhill. 😢

Winding up the reloading for today. Been at it since 6 AM here. 200 rounds of 380 and 100 rounds of 40 S&W. All single stage slow hand loading, or "Crafting" as I like to call my reloading these days. My RCBS "Piggyback" progressive gets very little use lately.

I was running a bit low on handy 380 components, so I dug through my storage drawers and found two larger boxes of 380 bullets 95 gr FMJ (and plenty of brass for 380) so I am good for a while. I also found a box of Hornady HP XTP 44 caliber 240 gr that I didn't know I had. I have dies for 44, and brass. I'm holding on to these components. Who knows. Some day I may get back into 44 caliber. I never thought I'd ever get back into 9mm or 380, yet here I am, reloading those calibers again.

Not so lucky with my archived 40 S&W components. I have enough brass and bullets left for about 100 rounds.
38/357 has me in good shape for a while with components.

45 Colt? I'm set for a long time.

OK, retiring to the recliner for the rest of the day. Reading a new (to me) Handloader's Digest (18th Edition) and listening to music will be the remaining agenda.

Entering into a new reloading adventure. Processing some 357 Sig brass. Sized, deprimed 50 but that came at a cost. Having trouble removing primers when sizing. Pushed the pin up several times and could not identify problem. Bent the the pin in my universal depriming die. Used a depriming rod from one of my Lee Loaders and inspected flash holes. Wiggled rod to make sure it was centered. Checked flashole diameter by slipping case on pin, not too small. Looked inside 50 cases, all clean. WTH??? Using my Co-Ax so I tried wiggling the sizing die as I fed the case and next 50 sized, deprimed smoothly. Perhaps the case botton inside was too flat and the flash holes were square edged and pin dug into the bottom??? Gonna try lightly chamfering flash holes to see if that helps.

New barrel in 357 Sig for my Glock22 arriving Monday. YAY! :p
