What have you done in the reloading room today

Graphite. It’s a flash suppressant and moisture barrier. Also makes a good lubricant. I run my guns “dry” so I don’t mind the graphite getting in the action.

Well... some people expect their weapons to be spanky clean after a shooting session, for some reason. I am not one of those...

I have used SP in 45 but use it in 9mm only now. My memory tells me it was somewhat Smokey, but don't know at what load.
I had a bad experience with SP in 45acp. Very large extreme spread, and case position sensitivity. It was also very sensitive to primer types. When I tried it in 9mm, it worked well, but I found it very interesting that in my ladder loads, the extreme spread improved a lot as the charge increased, so that told me that it works much better at higher pressures, which explained why it did not work well in 45acp.

Thats odd! I always considered 231 to be pretty clean. Especially compared to Bullseye or Unique.
Now that's oddly odd. I originally bought Bullseye in lieu of W231 due to the latter's smokiness. In fact, there are several lanes at my range where I won't shoot 231 rounds because the air circulation is a little slow and the smoke lingers. Seriously.

Now to reiterate, I'm referring to light to middle loads being dirty/smokey. I don't use heavy loads.

I just looked at my notes and my beef with SP for 45acp is more elementary & is two-fold: residue (unspent powder?) in light loads and uncomfortable snappiness in heavy loads.

For my type of shooting it's just not worth circumnavigating the globe to find that perfect 45acp load so I just use up any unfavored powder in 9mm. I'm lazy I guess.

Haven’t done much on the reloading bench for several weeks but happy to report my new load of 147gr RMR MW’s over 4.0 grs N340 performed outstanding in a “Diagnostic Pistol Instructor” class last week. Zero issues and wonderful consistency.

I planned on shooting my ‘go-to’ G19-5 but opted to shoot my new P365 Macro Comp. I’d not really warmed up to the gun and only shot about 100 rounds through it, but after 500+ rounds, I ended the second day starting to really like it, and very happy with the 147 gr RMR/N340 combo.

Hmm, I have both of those, as well as a P-365 (no comp) Macro. I'll have to try this.

I built this load because my powder puff 124gr RMR-3.9 N320 would not cycle my G19 with the Radian Afterburner comp.

It’s still very manageable and accurate. I shared several magazines worth of this reload with a couple assistant coaches who shoot a lot of competitions (with factory ammo) and they all loved it. Their comments were “less sharp recoil” and “great accuracy”.

Good luck with it.

I think I’ll try an experiment. I have a batch of 30-30 to clean. I used to tumble them by hand with soap, water, and Lemishine. Now I have the FART Lite. I’ve only used it with pins. What would be the difference between pins and no pins after a 2 hour tumble with vinegar and soap?

Tried two hours with 45acp brass & detergent without usual pins and
1) case exterior while clean, the primer pockets were not
2) case exterior was not as shiny, rather it looked "abraded" by the other cases
3) case interior clean but obviously only by detergent, lacking benefit of mechanical action by the pins.

What happens with other caliber cases I haven't a clue and imagine other folks would find the results perfectly acceptable, but I didn't.

I was trying to work up a load in 231 for a lighter 357 mag
load. It’s a sooty mess on the low end…
