I just got a new 22 on which I am going to mount a 3-9x40 scope. The LGS didn't have an appealing selection of rings to fit the pre installed weaver style bases. Is there a way to know what height rings I need to clear the objective, barely? It has to clear, but sit as low as possible. Trial and error might be best way, but I'd rather get it right the first time if possible. And I kind of like the Burris zee rings. Thanks.

Well, I found some measurements on the Burris website, how far the bottom of the scope is from the top of the mount. If I can figure out how to measure what I need I think it'll be easy. Simple things can be challenging.

OK, I guess I figured this out. Measured outside diameter of objective, 1.870", subtract 1", divide by 2= .435" I need just a speck more than that to clear objective.
Height of base about 0.154", add clearance above Zee rings of 0.065"= 0.219".
That height taken from the necessary clearance of 0.435 is 0.216". So I need a ring with at least that height. So I order the Zee medium or Zee Signature medium. If I did it wrong, it's back to trial and error!

As a rule medium rings Will clear a 40mm obj. Where it gets dicey is finding lows that will work. You might check out Warne Maxima rings.
