What holster does the fbi use? Also which holster would match this use? It needs to be worn on the hip.

P229 sig for "primarily shooting on the weekends, but I will be getting my concealed weapons license soon, so I will be carrying it with me from time to time. At one time the Safariland 5181 was in wide use by the FBI and DEA, but this is years old.

a variety of quality, all leather holsters; as provided by several different
makers, like Galco, Safariland, Bianchi, Kirkpatrick, Don Hume, and other's.

There may not even be a standard, agency-issued holster. It is more likely an agent must purchase his or her own.

Check out C.Rusty Sherrick Holsters. He has a "US High Ride" for deep concealment. He made 2 for me, one for my Para Slim Hawg and the other for my M&P 9 Compact. Both have a 10 degree forward cant (rear sweep). He will customize pretty much any holster he offers for you. I have been VERY satisfied with both the quality of the products and the personalization of my requirements. Both came within 2 weeks of order, unlike many other custom holster Co's who have 6 months + waiting lists. Well worth a gander!

I'm not in the FBI, so what they use doesn't really interest me. I wanted to get concealed holsters that were best for MY use and needs. And that answer is easy. "Crossbreed" holsters. For concealed carry, there's nothing better.

Well, they get an allowance for gear which is approved-which Level of holster retainment that they require depends on which Division he'd be getting into-there are several differing Divisions.

First question should be; Is the Duty use of a personal 229 allowed? If so, he can't go wrong with choosing the highest level of retain in a Safariland product, which are kind of $$ for a gear set he MAY NOT be able to use. Good luck to your cousin-for every 1200 applicants for Federal LEO jobs, they seriosly look at 1 person. Tell him to be patient.

A few years ago I think the standard holster that they gave new agents was the Don Hume model that has the partially open spring loaded front. It allows you to draw the weapon without having to pull it up as high.

I don't know if the 229 is approved. When working with the FBI clowns in Afghanistan, they all had Glock 22s and Glock 23s. It's their standard issue. There might be leeway in the agency, but the guys I worked with all used the 22 or 23.

Yeah I think that the G22 and G23 are the standard issue pistol with some older ones possibly being grandfathered in. Not sure if they have any leeway in regards to this.

Just paid 'em a quick look and see the following:
F.A.M.S. w/ Lock Hole This asymmetrical design, is now the standard issue for the U.S. Secret Service and other Federal Law Enforcement agencies.

Also might visit Magill's site-he carries holsters from a range of makers, and I remember one of his catalogs I got had a lot of "standard issue" stuff-just have to nose around at his site.

Guess ya gotta read carefully-some is "designed" for, some is "standard issue".

FWIW, I like DeSantis stuff so far. Got Galco, DeSantis, and High Noon Holster stuff to compare. Like the DeSantis and High Noon-nuttin' wrong with the Galco, but it has a bit more sheen to the leather-seems a bit more processed?
AFA double mag pouches, I definitely like DeSantis. I've got/had Galco, DeSantis, and High Noon Holsters models-High Noon and Galco use one piece of leather for the pouch-since the leather is overlapped at the attachement point, I can't get the same tension on both mags. DeSantis' double mag pouch is made with 2 pieces of leather sewn on the ends-you can get equal tension on both mags. I returned my High Noon double mag pouch and am replacing it with a DeSantis-will probably replace my Galco double mag pouch also.
The DeSantis double mag pouch is also more form fitted, and thus slightly smaller than the High Noon/Galco units.

Visit the usual suspects and download their online catalogs if available (Safariland, Galco, DeSantis, and ?)

Sorry, no Sigs allowed in the FBI.
I have a relative who carried a Sig when she was a police detective, but when she join the FBI she had to stop carrying the Sig and start carrying the Glock.
And she HATES Glocks.
She often says that she misses her Sig.

I'll have to ask her what holster they use.
I think that different ones are allowed as long as they meet certain specific criteria.
