What if Hillary gets Dem nod for president?

Throw water on her.

Seriously, she may be evil, but she's pragmatic enough to realize that running in '04 isn't a good idea.

If Dubya's popularity lasts, then I think the Democrats might nominate her just to show that they veiw women as equal to men. It would build their female voter base. It would also save potential stronger candidates for another day by not having them end up labled as losers.
In general, she scares the "poo" outta me. If anyone could rig a national election it would be her.

Her mind is eroded from drugs. Alec and Barbra could return from Cuba or whereever they are. Oh wait, they're STILL here? :fire:

She had national name recognition, but virtually no support outside of New York and California.

Unfortunately:

I forget the exact numbers since the census, but New York and California are good for almost 1/3 of the electoral votes needed to win -- ~87 of 270.

She'd also be the favored in at least D.C., Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Minnesota, Washington, Oregon.

She'd be strongly competitive in West Virginia, Florida, Arizona, Illinois, Michigan, Pennsylvania (off the top of my head).

Just remembered, saw something on the news the other night with a poll (yeah, I know about polls) that as Sen. Clinton as the most admired woman in these United States. And the beat goes on and on......

Scares Me, Too!

Unfortunately, my gut feel is that she WILL run, and she WILL win. Not in '04, I agree, and maybe not even in '08, but bet your bottom dollar, it will happen.

I don't like her (or her husband either), and have never in my 49 years voted Democrat for any public office. But... I know an awful lot of people who would vote for her today, in a heartbeat, no questions asked.

She's a woman (I think).
She's a Democrat.
She's a wife of a former President.
She's a Liberal.

She's sly and sneaky and smart. She'll prime the pump for the next few years, no matter how long it takes, and she'll run and she'll win.

And we'll lose. Not just gun-owners, either. The freedom of the press will take a hit, too. I'll tell you, friends, I've never been active in campaigning for somebody before, but when she runs I'll be doing whatever I can for her opponent. Money, time, whatever. At least that way if she wins, I can honestly look at myself in the mirror (and tell everyone else when they start bemoaning the fact that they are losing something, anything that they hold dear about the United States of America) and say "I did everything I could to stop her."

I am scared of her. Does it show? :what:

If she runs just put Condaleeza Rice on the ticket. I would love to see Hitlery try to debate Miss Rice! :-D

Sad as it is, I know a few women who are still proud they voted for her husband! I suppose they would vote for Hitlery to then.

hrc for president. GAG!

Somebody said that hillary wouldn't win because the nation is not that stupid yet. Poor me. I thought New Yorkers weren't stupid enuf to vote her into the Senate. A real embarrassment. And a further embarrassment was that the county I live in and the rest of Northern New York gave her a majority of our votes too.

I once had a political science prof. who pointed out that as IQ increases, one's tendency to vote conservative increases. I never met anyone whose IQ I rated as not too damn high who ever praised a conservative, failed to vote Democrat, or understood any issue any candidate was talking about.

I am an engineer, not a political science wienie so I don't spend much time analyzing people. They seem to just fall into my lap pre-analyzed.

"Where on earth did you find a college prof. who would say such a thing about IQ and voting tendencies?' you might ask.

Fair question. The prof. was teaching an extension course from South West Texas State Teacher's College. That's where LBJ got his under grad degree! He damn sure knew what he was talking about. That was in 1964. I wonder what he'd say today.

I think she'll win if she runs. I say that because I've lost faith in America's ability to refrain from suicide. Conservatives deliver a message that appeals to the strengths of human character. Liberals pander to human weakness. Who is going to win in that kind of a contest?

Good luck, America!

Didn't Hillary get even fewer votes for Senator than AlGore for President in New York State in 2000? I hope that's a sign that she will get even fewer votes across the country. Unless of course she succeeds in dismantling the Electoral College by 2008 and moving the voting battlefield to the big cities.

I can't imagine that she would run in 2004. The Dems only chance of beating Bush is if the economy or the Repubs have a serious bump in the road during 2004. Hillary is too slick to run in a race she's not more sure of winning.

I think Hiltery's star is already fading.
Looking back at recent events:
Bill Klintler is making fewer appearances now
Algorbatross was told not to run, Dems would not support him
The people of New York have now realized that they have been
duped
Republicans sweeping last election, even in liberal areas

I have a theory that people in this country are sick and tired of the Klinton bunch and want a change.

The 2000 election showed that there is a big polarization in the country, remember the blue and red map. There are people on this forum and previously on TFL that have read a lot more history than me that can cite things that couldn't have happened happening. Two illustrative examples: Bolsheviks out-maneuver Mensheviks (sp); Hitler out-foxing "was it?" Hindenberg!

I respect your opinion and hope you're right but neither Hillary or our electorate surprise me much anymore.

I think some folks are giving Hitlery too much credit I think her running could actually activate the pro gun voters whom might not have voted otherwise just for fear of her running the country !

Path, you're probably not aware that The High Road's rules were changed since you started that thread more than four years ago. Purely political threads are no longer welcome. I wonder how much value there is in resurrecting a thread this old anyway. Mrs. Clinton isn't going to have George W. Bush as an opponent for the Presidency.
