I know it will never happen, but....

John Kerry seems to blow with the political winds. He may realize that he is a long-shot and that Gore lost because of his stance against RKBA. A bold move to garner support from fly-over country might be his best chance.

WHAT IF John Kerry were to take a stance against the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban?

He could call it a "noble experiment", but point out the fact that the ban was based on looks, not operation and should be allowed to sunset.

    For whom would you vote?

Given John Kerry's decades of voting for every gun-control proposal under the sun, I'd say "NO."

Unless you think a Democrat is incapable of being dishonest just to get more votes, that is... ;)

I would trust him about as far as I could throw him, on a reversal like that.

Look at his perfect anti-gun voting record.

If Kerry were to say something to the effect of this I would say to myself, 'Well, yet another example of a candidate saying anything, including the opposite of what he feels and does, to get votes so he can get in.'

IMO, there is no 'what if..' for Kerry concerning the AWB.

If you want to vote for a candidate that truly believes in firearms freedom, vote Libertarian. It amazes me how many gun rights supporters are willing to vote for a man who has proudly proclaimed that he would sign a renewal of the AWB. Call it politics if you want, I call it despicable and unprincipled.

That assumes that the only principles one can have are related to guns. The libertarians, if put in power, would drastically increase the need for us to own a good "SHTF rifle" with their silly open borders policy.

Given his record it's safe to assume that if Kerry favored AWB sunset it would only be because it's not a ban that is comprehensive enough to satisfy virtually any Democrat. He'd be back later with a complete ban on semi-automatic firearms.

He's still a communist and, as Ronald Regan said, reserves the right to lie, cheat and steal.

To make matters worse, (as if there's anything worse than being a communist) he's a politician.

I think somewhere in that oath, they recently slipped in a "is required to lie about something at some point in your political career" clause.

So even IF, in some hypothetical, theoretical, parallel universe, kerry opposed the AWB, I'd still vote Bush this fall.

    :)

Nothing could motivate me to vote for Kerry. I'd rather vote for Kang or Kodos then him......

I don't care if Kerry promised every small arm would immediately become available in gun shops if he was elected, and I could prove he was telling the truth. I'm not willing to watch my other rights erode away just so I can have an SMG or something. It's not a pick and choose situation where I can be appeased with certain support of my favorite BoR Amendments. I expect all of my rights to be respected, and Kerry certainly doesn't fit the bill.

I may not vote for Bush, but there's no way I could vote for Kerry. There are just too many other issues where I completely disagree and I never could stomach voting for such an obvious socialist. :fire:

Cool Hand Luke 22:36 nailed my thinking.

I wouldn't put it past him. He'll be scrambling for votes this summer.

Watch out for that slippery Kerry fellow and his minions (note the number here on THR that voted for Kerry in this poll)
