What if your state repealed CCW tommorrow?

Granted this question largely applies to those in shall issue states. But what if it happened.

Would you continue to carry your handgun, knowing how easy it really is to keep it concealed?

After 3 years of doing it daily I could not give it up. I can not remeber what it was like before my handgun became my daily companion.

As one of my instructors stated during my first class when NM enacted CCW: "I have been carrying, both legally and illegally, for the past 18 years." Many of us gave a knowing chuckle.

Fortunately, Kentucky's Constitution guarantees the right to bear arms in defense of self, Kentucky Courts have long upheld the right to carry openly, and we have strong preemption legislation.

So, instead of loosing my right to even possess a firearm, I would switch to open carry. Yes, I would be prevented from going into many private businesses, but I don't want to give them money anyhow.

Its best not to comment on any contemplated illegal activity before you do it , and after only comment to your attorney lol .

Hypothetically speaking, if I felt the need I would probably continue carrying. But I would have to weigh the benefits and consequences of such actions.

If I were facing a possible felony charge, and would lose all of my guns, then maybe i would not risk it. Then again a misdemeanor, with no loss of gun privileges possible, would possibly be worth the risk especially if I felt threatened.

Of course if possible I would just move somewhere else, where my rights were still protected.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again:

I will endeavor to comply with the laws of my nation, state, and municipality to the best of my knowledge and ability, and I will encourage and teach others to do the same.

I would also, in keeping with the laws of my state, work within the system to ensure that some new and reasoned people went to work in state government.

Besides, with the way Missouri state government happens to be at the moment, if CCW were repealed tomorrow I would probably die of a heart attack anyway, even if for no other reason than our legislature is on spring break right now. :neener:

simple answer for me. Pack up and move north to Wyoming. I'd lived in a socialist state for 20 plus years (PRK), and had my fill of that.

My Wife's and my safety has always been of primary importance to me and I did anything necessary to to protect my Wife.

When I was a LEO I knew people that illegally carried and I could care less.
Once I even sold a Derringer to a Catholic Priest.:D

As of right now, I would say that I would continue to carry.

But as we know, we all talk big sometimes, so, If your shall issue state actually repealed CCW, many of us might have to think long and hard about the possibility of doing jail time and being away from our families and friends. I love my guns, but I love my family also.

A friend told me that when he went to his first concealed carry class, the class was run by a LEO.

He said the LEO said,
"Before we start I'd like a show of hands if you have already carried (illegally). No trick, I'd just like to know".

When a number of people raised their hands, the LEO said,"OK, now we are going to make you legal".:D

IF? :scrutiny: This is CA & if the laws changed 180 degrees, that would mean I would be able to get my carry permit :scrutiny: The reality of it is, the laws here are very anti gun.

...the laws here are very anti gun.
I think you mean that the laws are very anti-RIGHTS. The authorities (police, gov't security, etc.) are all allowed to carry what they want, in the manner they want, right? ;)

Well I have never been able to legally carry.

My problem is that here in Illinois it is a felony to carry illegally. I would lose my right to own guns. And this is what really bothers me. I have no means to protect myself here.

I would love to be able to say I would carry or that I carried illegally but I realized that it is not worth the risk if caught. I am terrified of this as I cannot afford a lawyer and cannot pay court costs. I also want to pursue a career as a police officer and could not do that with a felony on my record.

It really is a conundrum that I am very riled up about.

I talked to one guy who used to carry a Glock 26 concealed here. He said he stopped when illegal CCW became a felony and was no longer a misdemeanor with a fine. He said that he could not justify carrying and risking getting cuaght because he would go to jail and his wife would not be able to rasie his daughters alone.

Many of us are getting very frustrated with the gun laws and CCW here in Illinois. I know a few of my friends carry illegally and I warn them against it. If they are caught they are screwed and will face a lengthy prison term. The funny thing is that they will then be forced to live with the people that they want to protect themselves from.

I could rant for hours about this and how much it pisses me off but I will end it with this: I will not carry illegally as it is to much of a risk for me. However those of you who exercise your god given rights irregardless of what the government says more power to you and God bless you.

He said that he could not justify carrying and risking getting cuaght because he would go to jail and his wife would not be able to rasie his daughters alone.

And how will he feel if his wife and daughter are hurt or killed because he can't protect them?

It's obscene that we have let government get this out of control.
Years ago I turned down a very good job flying for the state of Illinois. A large part of the decision was my not wanting to live in a state controlled by those criminal parasites.:fire:

I live in Texas....

so it is a moot point. Why do you think it is called "concealed carry".............chris3

In Arizona, I would continue to open carry.

Open carry is infinitely more comfortable in the summer heat, and one doesn't need any permits or other such stuff. Makes my life easier, and I save nearly $200 in not needing all the classes, fingerprints, and other fees for CCW. (Yes, I've received CCW training before, just not in Arizona. I've read all the relevant laws, and feel comfortable carrying openly.)
