The gun has a "dovetail" cut in the top of the slide 90 degrees to the barrel in which a sight is put in. Most auto pistols have dovetailed rear sights and most of the newer ones have dovetailed front sights , such as the XD.

It has a kind of a fan shape looking at it from the side. Wide and flat at the bottom. Straight but slanted sides to a more narrow top with an opening for the sight to stick up out of.

What's the context of your question? Where'd you read it?

I'd say more like G if it's referring to the sight picture. More often though, it refers to how the sight mounts to the firearms slide/receiver/whatever. You can see the triangle on the sight that slides into the trianigle cut in this slide.

Jammie is correct, it is more like "G". Just look at the connection on the drawers of an older dresser. Those are called Dovetail joints and they will look just like example "G" above. (of course there will be no space)
