What is safe to shoot out of an old full choke 12ga

for factory ammo id just run target/birdshot loads and cutshells. steel shot wont hurt it if it's done rarely but don't make it an everyday thing, steel shells are more expensive anyway so I don't see why you'd use them unless your waterfowl hunting.

If “cutshells” means the kind that fires the entire front half of the shell out the muzzle, that is likely the most dangerous of all. Most of my full chokes (made in 2010 not 1910) say NO STEEL SHOT on them.

I would retire the old gun considering it won’t stay in battery with normal 12 gauge loadings. Imagine what a proof load would do...
