What is the best .22 "fun gun" to buy?

Hal .. thx a lot .... that has totally clarified things .. I was on a slightly different frequency at first but now ...... clear as day.

I will very likely try just that .... pretty simple and effective.

of the .22 guns I've fired, I like my 10/22 and my (grandfather's) old model single six. The revolver is 46 years old and still shoots great.

About the p22, I've seen a few pictures of them and they look pretty cool. What makes it illegal in CA, are they legal in MD, and how much do they cost?

The problem with the P22 was the threaded barrel, which made it able to accept a suppressor.

It fell off the CA approved list like days before I was going to buy one! :fire:

 Well, when it comes to 22 caliber shooting, I enjoy playing with my S&W, K-22 as well as my Model 41! Both pistols have excellent balance and are inexpensive and pleasurable to shoot. The fact that using one of these guns, today, is very much like holding a, 'piece of history' seems to, also, add to the fun.

I have two 22 caliber rifles, too: Both are Winchester Model 9422's. One is in long rifel caliber; and the other is a win. mag. I use them with 4X Leupold scopes that are fastened with, 'see-through' mounts. They are, both, just sooo ... sweet to shoot. I am able to reach out to 75 yards with the former; and all the way out to 100 yards with the latter. Few Saturday afternoon shooting games are better than, 'soda can popping' at 80 to 100 yards! The reason I acquired the win. mag. is because I found that the 22 long rifle cartridge isn't able to hold a dime sized target much past 70 yards, while the 22 win. mag. is able to maintain its edge out to, almost, 100! Like I said; 'These are, all, fun guns to shoot!' ;)

No one for the Ruger New Single Six?
Oh it's in there Mastro .. but for me not up at the top. I love the thing .. plus sometimes enjoying the mag cylinder too ..... being a lazy ol' toad tho it does count as harder work loading and unloading!!

I think max fun has to come in the guise of ''semi-auto'' ...... every time! :)

Can't beat the Ruger 10/22 or Remington Nylon 66 for autoloading rifles.
For pistols, the Ruger Mark II is a dandy.

I used to have an old Remington pump .22 that was just plain fun. A great little gun. I also had a Marlin auto. That was an utter POS! It had a negative value, since it would destroy the cartridges it tried to feed.
