I have owned or shot almost every gun mentioned here.
Given that the only factor is an excellent gun for under $600 it would suggest that money is of a main concern.
The Ruger SR9, SR9c, and the S&W M&P Shield and S&W SD9VE, can be had for under $430.00.
Giving money for holster, belt and ammo.
Good guns for not a lot of money.
I have not owned the sd9ve.
I can recommend the SR9 and SR9c. I just remove the magazine safety. It takes about 5 minutes and a youtube video. Easy to do and improves trigger.

How does the SR9c measure up to the M&P9c and Springfield XD Subcompact?

This looks to me like the ruger version of the what the s&w sd9 is to the m&p. value line that will probably be sold at around $300 or so

Is for home defense or Duty or Competition shooting?
My personal choice would be the M&P 9. If for personal home defense, the Taurus PT92 is a good hardy, no frills reliable gun.

Is the chance of getting a lemon as high as Taurus' other models?

The M&P 9's are incredible designs and values in the semi-auto pistol class. I'm an H&K zealot and am painfully accustomed to paying well over $600 for their excellent handguns. But I just purchased an M&P 9 and it is a shockingly well made, great shooting and great feeling machine. I was actually astonished how well balanced and how nice a 'machine' it is. It really is something that is more than the sum of its parts. To be fair, I need more experience with it but for now it gets my vote.
All that said I have yet to try out a Walther (PPQ M2). I have a sense that they are the hidden gem(s) in the industry that, for civilian levels of need, give up little to nothing to H&K for a quality handgun. Both German engineered and built, now both are making striker-fired pistols. I'd be very interested in a one on one comparison of a PPQ and a P30 but the Walther is not commonly stocked out west here.

    Hi
Probably not at all. Tarus was an easy target to bash, but too many owners have had them for a long time and have had very good experiences with them. Have had a PT 92 for 5 years and not probs at all. Great heavy gun. Fun to shoot, accurate, reliable.
