What is the first gun you have in mind when you hear 357 Mag or 44 Mag??

As a kid I always coveted the S&W 19 Combat Magnum, but really went nuts when the 66 version came out in stainless. Although the Python appealed to me, I liked the Smith better

In answer to the question though, I equate the .357Mag with the old Model 66 and the present 686+, and the .44Mag shared between the 29 and the Super Blackhawk.

I'm w/ you on this one. My first thought of 44 mag wheelguns are of Dirty Harry & his 29. A blue 6" Python is my first thought when I think 357 magnum

I grew up in NY, where every NYS Trooper had a BIG S&W model 28 on his hip! For .44, hands down S&W model 29.

Yeah WNY Collector I remember them too...

...but

I gotta go with 357: S&W M19 4" barrel
.44: S&W M29 6" barrel

.357 makes me think of my ruger sp101.

.44 mag makes me think of my friends a. super red hawk or b. his taurus snubby 2" ported .44!

My dream gun -- some day. A .357 magnum revolver made by Korth. Workmanship to the nth degree. I don't mean to sould like a snob, but damn that has got to be the most beautiful production revolver I have ever seen.

Since this is a subjective question as to what first comes to mind, I have a simple answer.........

comes down to when I think of .357s and .44s, I think wheelguns.

when I think of wheelguns, I think S&W.

don't get no simpler than that.

686+, 629

Yep, I've shot S&Ws since I was a kid in the sixties. I have Rugers and love them, too, but the straight answer to your question is stainless Smiths for both.

I won't buy another new S&W with a Hillary Hole :fire: but that's another issue.

What I think of is S&W 27 (4"-.357) and 29 (4"-.44 mag) in blue.

What I carry are Rugers. Blackhawk (4 5/8"-.357) and Super Blackhawk (4 5/8"-.44 mag)

The .357 that comes to mind for me is the Python. For .44, S&W Model 29 is the picture. Strangely enough, although I have and love 2 n-frames, I've never shot a Model 29. Only Rugers in that cartridge.
