Considering the FTF purchase of this package ... what would y'all say that it's worth ... :)

For Sale: S&W Model 19, 2 1/2 inch barrel .357 Magnum, 6 shot revolver. Hard chrome, bright finish. Very good condition.

Price Includes: New Pachmayr compact grips and Rogers black polymer grips; 2 speed loaders, black leather basket weave paddle holster, Bianchi AccuMold Nylon slide holster, and a Galco IWB holster. I'll also throw in some .357 ammo (less than 50 rds, haven't counted what's left).

I bought this gun new and almost immediately had it hard chromed. The plating job was excellent, and still is.

It looks to be pinned and recessed. Mod 19 is a fine weapon. But having it hard chromed after the fact will lower the going price. Pachmayr compact grips? Where's the Pachmayr logo? I have Pachmayr compact grips on mine and they have a logo. These don't even look like packmayr grips. $350 maybe $400..?..

If I were looking at your trade, this is what I see:

Not factory finish, but still looks nice

No factory grips, you are giving additional grips that you like but no factory

I have no use for the speed loaders

Out of the holsters you mention, I would only be interested in one

Your trade is set up the way you liked it, find someone with the same taste to get more.

No harm or foul is intended, just an outsider view.

Not all Pachmayr grips have the logo on them

That is a gun I wouldn't mind having. I would buy it if I could get it for about $350 even though I would prefer stainless.

You have what would sell for around $300 as an original gun.

Your upgraded grips are worth nothing when it comes to resale value, nor is the custom finish (which is noticeably worn).

The ammo, speedloaders and holsters also don't add much, especially if they don't suit the buyer's needs.

I'd say $350 is about all you can hope to get in most areas.

Just like hot rods, it's nearly impossible to recoup your investment in something like this.

No collector value whatever, and not a steal, but probably not a huge rip either if the gun is in good mechanical condition. If you want it, buy it. If you wait you MAY find a better deal, but you also may not. 2.5" M19 are getting more expensive by the day.

OP,if you want this package and are happy with the price then that is all that is needed to set it's value. The opinions of others doesn't establish it's value. If YOU are happy with the asking price then yes it is worth it.

Yup, I'd agree with most everyone else here. That set up would go about $350 tops around here.

NIB$600//EXC$500//VG$350//good$200//fair150//poor100{{{{ If under $400.00 I'd buy it}}}}

The book prices are usually lower than the store/ftf prices around here.
You can look at the hard chrome as a plus or minus. To me it is a minus.

Plus 1 to post five for the rest.

Great Gun!

I picked up mine in 1990 from a neighbor for $150 bucks. Great gun! Yes it is Loud, loud, loud! I am hoping to pass it on to the nephew in another 20 years.
I say buy it!

Dang, where do you live???

Around here, original 95%+ condition 2.5" Model 19s (pinned & recessed) rarely sell for less than $550 from what I've seen. 4" 19s are $400-ish.

To the OP,

If you like the gear and will use most of it, I'd say it is a fair deal. I'd offer $400 and go as high as $430 or so.

And as someone else said, you can always post for sale on THR the items you don't want and defray the cost further.

In my area K frame .357's are going 550ish, I just paid 450 for a nickel P&R 19-4 without original grips and considered it a pretty good deal.

$400 to $430.... I'd buy it if it's in good mechanical shape. Model 19s in that configuration won't be getting any cheaper anytime soon.

I'm not sure hard chroming would detract from the price. Hard chroming, if done well, costs well over a hundred dollars to apply and adds substantial protection to the gun. Compared to modern S&Ws, it also is a damn sight better looking.

What you wish to spend is up to you, but $350 for a plated S&W I think would be a bargain. At $450 it becomes a bit less so. I also would consider a primo grade Ruger Security-Six if I could find one.

Although the hard chrome finish is great, many would prefer the gun's original blue. In the end, it's your choice. You can't lose.

Sounds like it comes with TWO sets of grips. This would be why there is no Pachmayer logo on the ROGERS grips shown on the gun........

I'm astonished that anyone buying a revolver would have no use for speedloaders for it........ unless said speedloaders are total crap. The good news is, Safariland Comp II and III's don't cost that much.

The only holster that has much value to me is the Galco IWB.

I'd ask who hard chromed it. If it was Metalife or similar, then it's good to go. If it was Charlies Beer, Gun and Bait Shop, I'd pass.

I'd also look at the recoil shield to see how much wear is there, caused by firing it. IE; is there an outline of the 11 o'clock cartridge on the recoil shield?
