Shooters,

I have been following this thread" "Sir, do you have any weapons in the vehicle"?

It occurs to me that we have an interesting mix of folks who come from different backgrounds but share an interest in shooting. My poll question is which of these backgrounds forms the basis of your thinking about the 2d Amendment, concealed carry, interaction with law enforcement, and related issues that get you fired up on THR.

Please select the choices that infoms your thinking on THR discussions.

Thanks for shedding light on this.

Extreme distrust of the government. I'm a former farm boy, raised in the country outside of a town of 400 people. I was raised to be self reliant and not trust those who stick their noses in other people's business. I grew up hearing Reagan say "....government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem" and that's what I believe to this day.

I voted "none" because my primary reason is that I happen to hold a "strict constructionist" view of our Constitution - I guess, maybe the distrust government fits a little bit, but not entirely.

Grew up on a farm a gun was just a great all around tool, protect the stock, hunt a little, knock a few tin cans around, punch holes in paper, and always there in case the boogey man shows up. I was also raised independent, and realize that Big Brother ain't all its cracked up to be. I also happen to believe in that little document our founding fathers wrote, and IMHO the 2nd is the linch pin of the whole thing, whith it in place things stay solid, it gets pulled the rest falls apart.

I checked 4 choices:
1.military, 6 years U.S.Army
2 LE,work with daily on police fleet ops.
3.hunting
4.pol 2A, belong to various activist groups.
I get too fired up as you put it.
That is my problem.:)

Raised to be self sufficient and live off the land (hunting, fishing, gathering and growing crops) Firearms are very useful for most of these tasks.

i spent six months as a civilian contractor in the middle east. that was the closest i ever got to the military. i voted none of the above because i just really like guns. i guess over the years a dawning realization on my part of the extreme risk too our rkba has skewed my view to the 2a, but i just really like everything about guns. i just wish i could afford more of them more of the time.

All of the Above?

You may not have taken a sufficient number of military, written examinations.;)

Those of us with enough years and/or "mileage" need that "all of the above" box.

born in texas.
father born in texas
grandfather born in texas
great grandfather born in texas
great great grandfather born in texas

Too damn many people seem to watch too much TV, movie, and video games.

The "gun culture" is not made up of the military and law enforcement, and you do not have to be active/veteran in those groups to play with our toys.

Of course not, bogie. Its just that perhaps, our lives were more interesting.
You sound angry again tonight.Anything we can do to ease the pain?

Perhaps.

In my case it's a result of three uncles, one a Green Beret hand to hand combat instructor, one a Special Forces Medic, and one a SWAT team member, who's stories gave a young boy a dream. One more year and that dream comes true!

I am a Marine. 0331/8531 (Machine gunner and PMI) 91-97--

I used to be Republican leaning but these days I am more Libertarian/Centerist..

I am a CHL-- I live in Texas, and I too am dissapointed by those (especially military) that do not defend the Constitiution (yes the Bill of Rights is still part of it)..

I swore to defend the USA and Constitution from ALL enemies foreign AND DOMESTIC..

Loyal Opposition is still Loyal to the American people...

Distrust of government is kind of a strange one. The government in of itself that we have in the US is great. Some of the people running it lack morals (and more than a few have gone to prison in recent years) and have an agenda that is not always in the best interest of the country.

I was drafted in the military, which didn't exactly shape my opinion (although it was a nice way to grow up really quickly). I am a small government advocate, a position I have maintained ever since I began thinking independently (13, around there abouts), and pro-American. These two points of view tend to converge in the general direction of guns, fast gas-guzzling cars and all the other fun, safe and relevant individual freedoms and indulgements they curtail any time they get the opportunity over here.:banghead:

As for 'distrust in government' - can you blame me? (imagine me pointing my index finger at the location field to the left)

All but LEO. Former military, hunter, 2d Amendment Supporter, less and less satisfaction that the government represents or has my best interests at heart.

Jeff B.

All of the above--veteran, (former) LE, hunter, sport-shooter and reloader, active gun-rights supporter, distrust the power-mongers in gov't.

Question for Marinepilot--

How do you feel about the UCMJ?

Jeff
