What Is Your Fantasy Wheelgun Remake ?

That would be very cool if true, I just wonder if they still have the organizational capacity and knowledge base to bring the Python back. Very complex mechanism, lots of hand fitting involved.

I wish them the best of luck, and hope I can afford one if they get them out.

I also want the Anaconda brought back too!

That will be one expensive revolver if made true to the original including that "Royal Blue" finish. I am guessing the list price will be in neighborhood of $2,000 and I also bet collectors will buy them. This is a connoisseur's item and some people must have the best. I would be one of them if I could afford it.

When I think of the $500 Pythons I passed up over the years, not so long ago......

Grant Cunningham has stated that if Colt's were to seriously produce a Phython today, using the same methods and standards of the 1950's-1970's era guns, that you'd be looking at a $5K price tag.

Now one can hope that CNC machining should be able to turn out good quality parts made from solid steel forgings or bar stock, that will be easier to fit. Thus requiring less man hours to get a final hand fit Python action. The cosmetic metal working is still going to be very labor intensive though.

My guess is that best case scenario would be a new Python made to the true standard would be a $3500 gun. That is with the very aggressive use of CNC machining to render near drop in ready parts to reduce labor costs. If offered in brushed stainless you might see a $2500-$2800 Python, but a "Royal Blue" gun or bright stainless is going to require a kot of very careful hand polishing by very experienced metal finishers.

That empty space is probably due to getting rid of all the single use mills and the switch to six axis CNC machines. Colt used to have over 100 mill/tooling stations just to build the 1911. Many of these did one cut/operation.

As much as I'd like to see the snake guns return I fear the cost would be prohibitive for most people. Not to mention in the past 10 years I've only seen two SAA Colts sitting on the shelf for sale.

I've seen plenty of SAA's for sale, but they aren't nearly as labor intensive as a Python.

The Anaconda and King Corbra could, and should be brought back though since that action is much more conducive to mass production with minimal need for hand fitting. Both guns were known for being good strong revolvers.

Modern Diamondback in .327, 4" barrel, adjustable night sights, PVD finish of some kind over polished carbon steel. Dark walnut, full-checkered stocks (with medallions).

There is a long list
M1917 modernized to work with moon chips
a six shot revolver in 45 colt or 45 acp stub noose with a external hammer
Webley Mark VII for 45 acp
Ruger Redhawk 5032 that is not made in stainless steal
a cartridge firing Lemats preferably in a big bore caliber like 45 or 44.
Colt snake guns returned
Colt detective special style Smith and Wesson or Colt could made it.
Mauser Zip Zap revolver 1878 or 1886 either modern or both.
a modernized Nagant 1895 modernized with a better double action trigger and maybe in a larger caliber
Reichsrevolver
I think that will be enough for now and I noticed I have a love for big bore revolvers.

I would like to see a S&W N frame revolver in 454 Casull. I have always wondered why no 454 clambering from S&W?

A Ruger Redhawk in 454 Casull would be my second choice but not a Super Redhawk.

I don't think an N-frame could stand up to the .454 Casull. You can shoot it in a .460 X-frame though.

FANTASY REMAKE
For S&W to remake the 5/681 without the internal key lock. I'll even be OK with MIM parts.
Having a half under lug barrel would be nice.

  1. Colt New Service in .45 Colt, .45acp, and .44 Special
  2. Colt Official Police in .38 Special and a modernized version of the .41 Long Colt
  3. S&W Model 1917 with the front sight where it belongs and no lock
  4. S&W Triple Lock in .45 Colt, 45acp and .44 Special
  5. S&W Model 10 with a 3" barrel and round butt, in a modernized version of the .41 Long Colt
