OK, I don't know if this qualifies as a western or not but I've been watching a series with my Dad called "Daniel Boone." It's set in Kentucky in the 1700's and has a story line I don't mind having my son watch. Plus I have a thing about flintlocks.

when Boone lived there , it was “the west”. As the frontier moved west so did he.

No, but I didn't have it in me to ruin a firearm. I can drift out the retaining pin and re-attach the barrel and wedge.

ha ha would not deem that that so much ruined and significantly customized :) .. But you got me thinking, no reason you could not remove that fine pistol grip and barrel from the barrel in the cane and reattach it to a "normal" one.. Infact that would be pretty gosh darn cool...

I like the westerns a lot! I’m absolutely a fan of Clint’s work. I also loved The magnificent 7 (I watched it probably once a month for a year when I was 14) and the remake is fun.

To keep this gun related, here’s a list of some of my favorite guns from some of my favorite westerns:

- the top break Smith and Wesson’s in 310 to Yuma.
- I’m a sucker for coach guns, and especially love the geese scene from the original Magnificent 7.
- I can’t remember if it was For a Fistful if Dollars or For a Few Dollars More, but Lee Vancleef’s roll of rifles was pretty neat, but what I lusted after the most was the detachable stock he had on his revolver.

I’m watching a 1959 movie “The Oregon trail “ set in 1847 or 8. Stars Fred MacMurry. There is a scene where a guy shows fred the first revolver he has seen. He explains it was made by Colt and demonstrates the gun. I am not familiar enough to know but I think it’s a walker. Don’t know if the dragoon was being produced yet.
Scene is at 50:30 minutes or so.

ps. The way the guy slings his gun makes me wonder if they used a dragoon as it is lighter ?

That "actor" who is shooting and twirling that Colt Walker is hollywood's legendary Gun coach/Quick draw artist Arvo Ojala. He would coach the stars in quick draw and gun handling.. Coached in lots of movies, War Wagon, Silverado etc. Had his own line or quick draw holsters he designed. Also just as a cherry on the top, he is the man that Matt Dillon shoots in the opening of each Gunsmoke.

There are many that I really like but off the top of my head The Quick and the Dead with Sam Elliot comes to mind. Sam Elliot uses a Winchester 73 and what looks like a Remington 1858 conversion. Other characters use Henry, 1866 Winchester, and a Dragoon pistol, among others. It's not a great western but it's pretty good and Sam Elliot is Sam Elliot. The other main actors are pretty poor.
