I also have to go with the revolver for this application. I would definitely choose my Taurus Tracker 357 mag. This is one of the most versatile pistol calibers out there, everything from powder puff 38 special to full power magnum loads, 110-200 grains with a myriad of bullet styles, doesn't get any better. Plus its very accurate, reliable, durable, and with the stainless finish, its tough.:D

I've always said, If I could only keep one handgun, it would be my 357, hands down. I'd have no qualms about chucking my semi-auto's.:p

A Ruger SP101 can do about anything short of serious hunting for me. I carry it when I'm down at my place with 180 grain loads just in case I run across a hog inside 50 yards (he'll be dead, trust me), but for serious handgun hunting, I have a scoped contender.

Autos are too combat oriented, not accurate enough, and/or not powerful enough to be very good in the field outside of some specialists in 10mm and .44 mag (Desert Eagle) that aren't great for concealment. I'll take a .357 mag revolver any day over a brass waster for outdoor uses.

Another vote for the p99. Excellent ergonomics, disappears on carry, high capacity, sweet trigger. Light enough for hiking and carry, rail for a light (HD). For me, if it does it all, it has to compete in pistol sports. Pretty good SSP gun to boot (made master with mine, I blame it on the trigger!)

Only thing it suffers at would be pocket conceal, thou I've never even tried it (my p32 covers that territory).

I usually have either my xd-40 service or Ruger P-944 in 40 caliber close at hand trust either one

Ruger SP101 2.25"

I have to agree with 19-3 Ben and MCGunner my Ruger SP101 is almost NEVER out of arms reach. There maybe better for given tasks, but it will do anything I require of it. Since my health is not so good anymore, I have given away or sold my rifles and shotguns. Most of my hardware is a collection of S&W's. The little abbreviated tube Ruger is my constant companion unless I need to go into a bad part of town at night and then I take the Glock 21 and two spare magizines. I seldomly make that trip.

Currently, and for the foreseeable future, a prelock S&W 640 with boot grips loaded with Gold Dot short barrel .357 Magnum.

Now if I could have only one handgun, it would be a G20SF, with KKM .40 cal barrel, and AA .22 conversion kit--probably my next handgun purchase.
