What kind of guns do the bad guys carry?

I have to wonder how many of those "felon in possession" perps are going to spend any time in prison.

Typically a felon firearm possession charge is icing. It gives something lawyers can plea bargain with. Slide the possession charge off the table and you get out a few years earlier if you confess you did the armed robbery or whatnot. To make matters worse, prison systems that are far over max capacity at their facilities will do pressure releases of inmates. Send criminals off to rehab or probation well before the sentence is done. I sent off an inmate to prison for armed robbery with a sentence of 12 years. I saw him less than 6 months later because he sweet talked his way into drug rehab.

That needs to stop.

Bring back hard labor and chain gangs. Let them live in tents in the desert.

It's polices like this that lead to what just happened in Philly

I agree. I saw videos of Philly first responders getting obstructed dealing with the situation while 6 officers are getting their keisters shot off. I know of police and EMS personnel who have outright quit working in NYC because of Deblasio's disdain for police. Both instances are infuriating to me on personal and professional levels.

I think 1976 is correct in assuming the basis of the problem is an inadequate penal system. Judges are told to keep sentences short as it illegal to put 3 people in a cell. They also have to be fed a healthy diet and get plenty of gym equipment for exercise. Free medical care etc, etc.

No. The problem is lifelong criminals, by and large, ENJOY going to prison. I know of one family of criminals that would have small family reunions if they were assigned to the same block. I worked in pre-trial confinement, aka jail, and have sent many inmates to prison for their long term stays of their sentence. I cannot tell you how many of those people wanted to give me a hug for delivering the news that they were going to prison. Interpretations of the 8th Amendment have changed prisons to places that are not unpleasant to be in. The only people who seem to not like going to prison are those who would not benefit from less close supervision, such as anyone with a target on their back.

Granted, it was largely the DFW area but I dated a girl down there once and not a single of her friends had even shot a gun, let alone owned one.
After being around more than 4 decades I have learned: A lot of people have guns, a lot don’t, The ones that you assume don’t and carry without most people knowing. I am very familiar with the Dfw area. A lot of women like their guns and don’t advertise they carry.

Only the Shadow Knows.
Found in a vacant home by the property owner.

Snuck home from Korea or Vietnam in some soldier's duffel-bag, or stolen from a military base, perhaps?

My father "liberated" an M-1 carbine returning from Korea, but it wasn't a converted type as shown in Gunny's post.

The pictured carbine started life as a semiauto M-1 carbine. At some point it was converted probably using a G. I. issued kit and thus became an NFA firearm. It used to be legal to have this kit as long as it wasn't installed.
Today, don't even think of it. If you see a kit and a carbine RUN AWAY!! RUN FAR AWAY!!!!

Fair, lots of her friends were guys though, and I was "that crazy Yankee who likes guns."

Also amusing to hear her bro buddies extol the Texan virtues of being big drinkers and then me subsequently drinking them under the table. Everything is bigger in Texas, including unwarranted boasting (in my limited, admittedly, experience).

Edit:. Also, being an upper mid westerner, I never did appreciate being called a yankee.

I wonder what the total amount of actual time served would be for these arrests?

Gunny, you're updating these posts about every 2 weeks. It is amazing how many guns you are taking off the streets. Do you have an estimate on what the annual total of seized firearms for your dept?

at between 5 and 6 a day, the storage of them must look like the warehouse at the end of Indiana Jones/Raiders of the Lost Ark.

I had never heard of a quartercircle 10 before. Like this one?

https://www.rainierarms.com/quarter-circle-10-ranger-ar-9mm-pistol-7-5/

That's a lot of coin for a couple of 9mm AR pistols when cheaper versions are readily available. And to have gone to the effort to have (presumably) illegally converted one of them to full auto. Must have been some felon. With a bunch of spare cash lying around.

The rest of the story on that bust would be worth telling. Gunny, I know you can't, but maybe someday someone will.
